shout out to “gross” disabled people.
people who can’t shower/bathe people who can’t shave people who can’t wash their clothes people who need help going to the bathroom people who have nasty habits (biting nails, picking nose, etc) people who can’t brush their teeth people who can’t go to the doctor people who can’t clean their room people who can’t make their beds people who vomit a lot people who wet the bed people who constantly have diarrhea people who’s physical deformities are seen as repulsive
and every other kind of person I missed that deserves to be here too.
you are people, first and foremost. your thoughts deserve to be heard, discussed, acknowledged, no matter what. you are not lesser. you are just another person. you should never be ignored for what you can/can’t do. you deserve care.
to abled people: check yourself. make sure you listen. and you can reblog, just don’t derail. maybe don’t add on, either.
happy July everyone
my favorite part of this post is seeing people in the notes whose hearts have been touched. if you don’t mind, I’d like to share a few.
keep in mind: this is nowhere near everyone. Some responses were too short, some were too long - I heavily advise you to go look in the notes yourself. And I’m sure many people reblogged this with just sorting tags or nothing at all, and that’s wonderful.
I made this post for myself, mostly. while I don’t do everything on the aforementioned list, I do apply to quite a few - but, ultimately, it was for me. I never expected it to boom like this.
And yet, it did. And that is a wonderful, wonderful thing. This post has helped people, even in small ways, something I never imagined. It’s wonderful.
so here, let me add a few more I missed. some taken from notes, some of my own.
people who pee in a bag people who can’t brush their hair people who can’t wash the dishes people with stomas and catheters people who are gassy people who have constipation issues people with chronic hives/red bumpy skin/MRSA people with heavy birthmarks people with bugs in their homes/car/etc people with constant runny/bloody noses people who can’t do certain things from depression people who need help getting out of bed people who eat in bed and have crumbs in there people who can’t clean their sheets people who can’t make their bed people with shower chairs
and even more that I had to have missed. Again, please add on.
So for this July, every one after, and all the months in between, just remember: You are loved. You are not alone. The notes both below and above prove that. I promise I am not lying. You are a wonderful, beautiful person, no matter what you can/can’t do, and no matter what you look like. You deserve to be heard and listened to. Your voice and opinion matters.
I've seen this before, but it's been years and it just came across my Twitter in its dying days. The words are from a favorite author of mine, Maggie Stiefvater, and they are the words I most need to hear when it comes to dealing with chronic pain and illness. I didn't need this the first time I saw it, six years ago. I need it now. Maybe you do, too.
“But House MD is unrealistic because of all the medical malpractice!!”
WRONG
House MD is unrealistic because he gives the proper diagnosis more often than not
I love being part of the Good Omens fandom because it's the only fandom I'm in that hasn't simmered down yet. You people are 2014 levels of crazy. You're in Neil's inbox calling him "babygirl" and writing 16000-word theory essays that will absolutely come back to haunt you in a Youtube retrospective some day. I love having to apologize to my mutuals for your behavior. It makes me feel young again.
Aziraphale with other people:
Aziraphale with his husband, ON THE SAME FUCKING DAY:
Me twenty-four hours ago: I am so ready for Good Omens season 2 God's voice: She was not, in fact, ready for Good Omens Season 2
#they're so married and soft for each other
good omens 2 is like being given a box of six powdered sugar donuts but the last one isn’t powdered sugar, surprise it’s cocaine
Aziraphale, who hurt you? Oh, right, HEAVEN. Crowley wouldn't. How I love these two. xo
The fact that Good Omens S2 was SO QUEER.
Not Just Maggie and Nina (and Lindsey)
Not just Aziraphale and Crowley
Not even just Gabriel and Beelzebub (who is NB)
But the magician shopkeeper and his trans/NB spouse who wore a fancy early 19th century dress to the ball.
Job's son who was flirting with Aziraphale (hilariously played by Ty Tennant giving Michael Sheen heart eyes in front of his dad lmao)
Even the tough macho man in Scotland that Aziraphale borrows the phone from - using it for "Grindr".
Plus of course Michael, Uriel, Muriel, and Dagon also all being non binary/gender queer characters.
With all this, there was no homophobia, no one batted an eyelid at any characters sexualities, sexuality wasn't even brought up, characters just are who they are and like who they like. Its a non issue in the GO universe.
AKA my favourite type of queer representation. The same type found in The Sandman (show not comic).
And whilst there was plenty of drama and not everyone gets a happy queer ending (YET) there was no queer trauma to be seen. No hate crimes, no "bury your gays", no stupid discussions about how HARD it is to be out of the closet in a bigoted world, because the GO world isn't bigoted.
Its SUCH a BREATH OF FRESH AIR.
I know we have similar experiences in The Sandman, In OFMD, and even in WWDITS, but each time a new show takes this very new approach towards queer representation I feel like I'm once again sinking into a comforting hug from someone I love, who loves me back.
Its just really fucking wonderful to see. I hope we keep seeing it more and more often.
I love the part in Good Omens when Crowley hits Anathema with his car and then Aziraphale is trying to be helpful and Anathema is like “uh oh two weird dudes” then Crowley calls Aziraphale “angel” and she thinks “oh good, they’re just gay”
The best little fanon thing they confirmed for me was making the Bentley a little pet. Cause in the book it’s just a one off joke about how the CDs turn into queen if you leave them in A car long enough but it’s like no…the Bentley loves aziraphale and gives him sweets and plays whatever he wants and turns yellow for him and parks where he tell it to and plays “a nightingale sang in Berkeley square” when crowley is heartbroken and plays “good old fashioned lover boy” when crowley is racing back to help aziraphale. And crowley coos to it like it’s a puppy. Love that car
Good Omens 2 was like reading a 100k fanfic in the middle of the night that you realize was left unfinished and last updated 5 years ago, and you are left alone with this earth-shattering cliffhanger
What’s the plot of season 2?
(Can we get one more wait and see before season two for old times sake ?)
Crowley and Aziraphale and their wives, Sadie and Dottie, are at their local village fete, which is being held in a field next next to a high security space program demonstration. The four of them, and Woofles, their pet monkey, wind up thinking they are getting on the "Space Ride" roller coaster, but are actually shown onto a real space ship, and before they know it, everyone is going to the Moon. Hilarity ensues.
Hi, Mr. Gaiman, I just wanted to double-check because I am paranoid about accidentally crossing the picket line, but watching G.O. season 2 is a good thing, yes? I figure that even though you can't really promote much because of the strike and all, us watching it and driving views up not only provides everyone more money but also shows there is 1000% a demand for the show and your work, meaning companies gotta actually give strikers what they want. I think I already have got it, I just figure it is best to check these things to make sure I am doing right by everyone striking.
(also i love your work and you are a very cool person ok thank you byeeeee)
Nobody has asked you to boycott any streamers yet, and for right now watching Good Omens and giving Amazon an incentive to make more (and do a deal with the WGA and the actors) is important.
