Yes, America could change. So why don’t we? A former editor of the International Herald Tribune argues that Americans need a firmer grip on global realities – and their notion of exceptionality.
“Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.”
Brian Eno, A Year With Swollen Appendices, 1996. I saw part of this quotation and thought “that’s fantastic”; some judicious googling turned up both the source (hat tip to here) and more of the original thought. (via imathers)

Happy 4th.
I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS
song of the year so far
Community
My entire Tumblr feed is everyone being sad about the Dan Harmon/Community/Sony situation. Not a good day for TV.
We'll spend a month apart
At least I know when you'll be coming home
But this is just the start
We'll find out who we are
A hint of light in the dark
Only enough to keep from giving up
Pitchfork is holding their annual Readers Poll where you, the reader, get to vote on your favorite albums of the year, as well as artists, music videos, etc.
How great would it be if we were able to send Camp into the ranks of Album of the Year, especially after Pitchfork gave Gambino’s album a 1.6 rating out of 10.
I think it’d be hilarious, amazing, the best ever, all other things positive.
So, get to it. Reblog this link so justice can be done. Let’s show Pitchfork what Gambino Girls and Sick Bois are made of.
Thanks to thevirginchronicles for bringing this to our attention.
