Tumblr has glitched and lost like three of my posts in the last few days so I’m slowly losing my mind. BUT here are some AKOTSK fics I’m cooking up!
FOR SHE IS MINE / Valarr x cousin!reader You and Valarr have orbited each other since childhood. When betrothals are announced that contradict the future he was promised, Valarr does everything in his power to get you back. - requested, nearly finished!
I WANT TO LIVE INSIDE YOU, FLESH AND SOUL / Valarr x wife!reader After a nightmarish trip filled with political nonsense that you couldn’t attend, Valarr can’t stand to be away from you for even a moment.
HAUNTING LOVE / widower!Baelor x widow!reader After Jena’s death, Baelor is told he must remarry, so he chooses you. Now the two of you must figure out how to merge your lives together and hopefully learn to love each other in the process.
HARSH HEARTS / widower!Maekar x widow!reader You are married to Maekar in an attempt to quell his increasingly cantankerous nature, but shoving two families in a castle together doesn’t make for the easiest relationship.
DEADLY AMBITIONS / Aerion x Mormont!reader House Mormont is one of the only houses to offer up a daughter for Aerion to wed. He’s left reeling when the simple northern wife he expected comes with claws.
I WANT TO CRAWL INSIDE YOUR SKIN / Aerion x wife!reader You leave to visit your family and, in the fortnight that you are away, Aerion decides he needs you to be near him always.
Hello, I hope I'm not bothering you with this requirement. Can you do something with Valarr? I'm fucking obsessed with him.
Something like him and Maekar's daughter? That she is known for being very sweet, maternal and very beautiful, Daeron's twin. Like them being very in love with each other since they were very young and everyone realizing it since in dances or events they are always together and valarr always asks for his favor in tournaments or things like that. And here comes the plot twist, although since they were little King Daeron II already thought of committing them a new suitor suggested by a lord enters the eye, it can be an Arryn or Dornian boy, they choose the boy and plan to marry the princess to that boy, but they also find a candidate for Valarr (Kiera of Tyrosh) Valarr finds out and gets upset but does not say anything since he knows that it is his duty as heir, the more Valarr sees his cousin with that man the more it bothers him and even though he knows that Kiera is beautiful and kind, Valarr He knows that his heart does not long for him so one day after having an argument with his cousin about his feelings he asks for a hearing with the private council and that his uncle Maekar was present, there Valarr tells his grandfather and his father that he has always fulfilled his role as heir and that he has made it perfect but that he could not marry Kiera because his heart did not allow it, he told them that they had told him that he could have everything he wanted and that they wanted his Cousin. (Something like what Daemon tells Viserys) that's all, a thousand apologies if it's too long but you can remove or add more things.
YESS!! I got halfway through writing this before I decided I wanted to do it entirely from Valarr’s POV. So I’m rewriting, BUT it should be up soon!
AKOTSK X HOTD crack fic AU — AKOTSK timeline version
I’ve seen too many edits. This crack fic AU is taking over my brain.
This version puts HOTD characters in the AKOTSK timeline, but I’m making another version that puts AKOTSK characters in the HOTD timeline!
Warnings for targcest (honestly very tame compared to my HOTD timeline version).
Starting off strong by just omitting the Targaryen family tree between King Viserys I and King Viserys II. We know a war happened and the dragons are lost because of it, but specific people and events are not important.
So King Viserys I simply becomes Prince Viserys, the second son of King Aegon IV. — He still marries Aemma Arryn. — He has two children, Rhaenyra and Baelon.
Let’s say Rhaenyra is born in 173 AC and Baelon is born in 175 AC. It’s not their canonical age gap, but if one of many babies Viserys and Aemma lost prior to Baelon had survived, that baby would have gotten the name Baelon instead, so that’s what I’m going with. (Essentially a way for me to keep Jena Dondarrion because I hate writing out one of the few women in the story we do get, even if she’s assumed dead and not actually present by the time we get to the Ashford Tourney in canon. She is very dear to me.)
Aemma also gets to live in this timeline. With no desperate need for heirs, we can assume there’s no push for Viserys and Aemma to consummate their marriage or even get married so young. Aemma may still struggle with infertility and that’s why they only have two children, but having children wouldn’t become a burden for Aemma to bear and eventually die for.
We are slowly coming out of the marry-your-sibling era of Targaryens, but just barely. King Aegon IV still married and had children with his sister, Naerys. Two of his children are married to Martell siblings for peace treaties (one of which wasn’t his choice. King Baelor I betrothed Daeron and Myriah.), but presumably Viserys would still marry Aemma Arryn because she has a Targaryen mother, making them cousins.
With that in mind, Daeron I betrothing his heir, Baelor, to the next available Targaryen woman isn’t too far fetched. I think the main reason all four of his sons married outside of House Targaryen was simply because there weren’t Targaryen women in their generation. I mean Rhaegel’s twins are married to each other and their little sister is married to their cousin, Aerion, so clearly incest was not viewed as taboo in the family.
All that to say Baelor is married to Rhaenyra. She would still grow up spoiled, but she wouldn’t get away with near as much not being the King’s daughter so she would carry herself with more propriety. That’s not to say she would lose her attitude, she would just be more aware of what she could and couldn’t say or do in certain company since she doesn’t have the protections that come with higher status.
Rhaenyra would be a good balance for Baelor’s ‘I must do everything for the good of the realm’ tendencies as I think she would remind him that he needs to take time for himself. Baelor would absolutely be the type to forget to eat or take a break because he’s caught up in his duties. She knows that everything he does is important, especially once he becomes Hand of the King after the first Blackfyre Rebellion, but that doesn’t mean she would let him spend all his time away from her and their family caught up in his work.
Together they have five sons. Valarr is born in 189 AC, Jacaerys in 193 AC, Lucerys in 195 AC, Maelon (rebranded Aegon III because we don’t need two at the same time, combination of Maekar and Baelon for their brothers.) in 198 AC, and Vaeron (rebranded Viserys II, why honor only one father when you can honor two!) in 200 AC. Baelor and Rhaenyra heavily enjoyed the game of inventing new names for their children.
With Baelor off the market, Jena is now married to Baelon (good for her, hardly a name change and it comes with less than half of the previous responsibilities). Together they have three children. Matarys is born in 194 AC, Jaeryn in 197 AC, and Visera in 201 AC. Jena and Baelon were also participants in the inventing new names for their children game.
Now for fun, to add Alicent Hightower to this timeline she would be married to Aerys Targaryen. He would be the closest person to the throne that Otto would be able to get to for Alicent to marry. Presumably they would marry before Valarr is born so Aerys is second in line for the throne after Baelor.
If we go with show Alicent, she would be at least content with the arrangement. Rhaenyra and her could be friends along with Jena and Dyanna. She wouldn’t have any children (which is probably for the best), but she’d enjoy helping the others out with theirs. It would also give her the opportunity to find herself and figure out what she likes. She could have a hobby that isn’t traumatizing everyone around her.
If we went with book Alicent, she would hate it. For a time after she is married she would be friendly with everyone, but once Baelor and Rhaenyra begin having heirs and her position to the throne gets further and further away she would become bitter. She may even force Aerys to give her a child or two in a misguided assumption that it would be beneficial to her, but it wouldn’t change anything. Under no circumstances should you let this woman supervise your children. She would probably end up on trial for treason after trying to convince Aerion to kill Baelor’s sons.
All stays canon for Rhaegel and Maekar as far as wives and children go. I could mess around and pair Maekar with Laena Velaryon, but I love him and Dyanna together too much to do it in my personal canon for this AU.
I’m undecided when or even if Dyanna Dayne should die like she does in canon (I’m actually the leader of the stop letting women die young club). Her death does play an important role in the development of the personalities of Maekar and their children, but also everyone would be so much happier if she didn’t.
With all of Daeron’s (and Viserys’s) children married, House Targaryen has gained alliances with houses in the Stormlands, the Reach, the Vale, and Dorne.
Speaking of the Stormlands, let’s bring Laena Velaryon back in. I think Lyonel Baratheon and Laena could make an interesting pair, but I’d have to fudge Laena’s age a bit in respect to the rest of the HOTD characters.
Lyonel is never given a canon age, but I don’t think he can be any older than mid-twenties during the Ashford Tourney if in 30 years he’s supposed to fight Ser Duncan the Tall in a trial by combat. Keeping in mind that Rhaenyra would be around 36 during the Ashford Tourney and that her and Laena are around the same age in their canon, Laena has to be at least 10 years younger in this AU if I pair her with Lyonel. Which is water off my back because I want to include her and Laenor in this AU. They messed up their ages and birth order in the show compared to the books anyway so who even cares.
So let’s say Lyonel is born in 185 AC and Laena is born in 189 AC. I’m going to follow book canon and make Laenor two years younger than Laena.
Who’s to say why Lyonel and Laena get married, maybe she’s enamored with him during a hastilude or some other court event and similar to Daemon, she runs off with him and gets married. Lyonel probably asked her to dance during a celebration once and she decided then and there that he was going to be her husband.
If we bring in a little show Lyonel and a little book Laena then it would be safe to assume they might see other people outside of their marriage. Both were inferred to enjoy people of the same sex, so I could see Lyonel being fond of Laenor and Laena finding herself a nice lady or two to spend her time with. If only Lyonel was able to convince Ser Duncan to come back to Storm’s End with him, he and Laena would have enjoyed him very much.
Nevertheless, Lyonel and Laena would go on to have many children. Baela and Rhaena are born in 213 AC, Elyse in 218 AC, Aelera in 221 AC, and Ormund in 227 AC.
Suffice to say, Jacaerys and Baela would not be betrothed and neither would Lucerys and Rhaena in this AU. Perfectly fine since none of them ever married each other in canon anyway.
Valarr, Jacaerys, and Lucerys would probably be married in political matches that further House Targaryens alliances in regions they currently have none.
Imagine Rhaenyra and her children being happy because there’s not a full on war happening. Rhaenyra gets a love interest that she’s allowed to marry and who isn’t an abusive groomer and child murderer. She gets to grow up with a sibling she adores that isn’t fed lies about her from birth. Jace and Luke don’t grow up constantly being called bastards. Why would they be? They just take after their father after all.
Laena gets to live a long and carefree life and doesn’t die across the Narrow Sea in childbirth. Laenor isn’t murdered by a jealous lover and gets to live out his days as a knight for House Baratheon.
Everyone gets what they want. I personally want to make a three headed dragon with Baelor and Rhaenyra but who’s asking.
Please send me ideas to write inside of this AU! The possibilities are endless! I’m also down to include other HOTD characters, this is just as far as I got integrating them for the time being.
REQUESTED BY: unknown (the ask disappeared and I didn’t have your username written down! I’m so sorry!)
Hiii, I was wondering if you had time or if you were taking requests. if you could make one where reader is maekar daughter and they have a really good relationship since Reader is the only daughter( Daella and Rhae don’t exist) and is married to Valarr and have been since they were young and who have a very loving relationship. it takes place during the Great Spring Sickness and reader is like 7or 8 months pregnant and is already high risk pregnancy and the news of Valarr’s death causes her to go into early labor and she sadly dies during the labor but not before giving birth to a healthy daughter. Valarr and reader are both burnt together. And maybe you could write it like if someone was reading about it in the history of westrose history and it talks about the aftermath of reader’s death and how maekar never recoveries from her death and wears on of her rings and on his death there is a tell of him talking to his dead daughter. Sorry if it a little confusing or if anything is spelled wrong ❤️
CONTENTS: reader is Maekar’s daughter but has no physical description, stillbirth (not graphic), childbirth (not graphic), death, grief

A/N: I tweaked it just a bit so it’s Egg reminiscing about his sister later in life. I made myself sad and had to take a break in the middle of this. Sorry it took so long to write, I hope it finds you 💜
209 AC was a horrible year for House Targaryen. Egg remembered it clearly even after all these years. The year he lost his sweet sister.
You were born a year after Daeron and Maekar adored you as soon as you were placed in his hands. His only daughter, so it would prove as his wife gave him three more boys as the years passed.
You wanted for nothing. Anything you asked for your father found a way to get. It was no surprise that when you begged to marry your cousin, Valarr, the wedding was set almost immediately for the next summer.
You and Valarr had orbited each other since childhood. Anytime your family visited the Red Keep or your uncle and cousins visited Summerhall, Egg knew he’d be able to find you with Valarr.
He asked you once, a few months before you were married, why you were so happy? Sure, eventually you would become Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, but you were six-and-ten. How could you be so sure about Valarr, about the rest of your life?
“Because I love him. You’ll understand when you’re older, when you find a lovely girl to be smitten with.”
He rolled his eyes then.
Egg supposed Valarr was good enough for you. A lot kinder than if you had been married off to another house for him to barely see you again. Or gods above one of your brothers. Aerion tormented you enough as it was.
He could barely remember your smile, but your laugh haunted him. You had laughed a lot on your wedding day.
Your dress was beautiful. You declared that you wanted a color more spectacular than plain white, finally settling on a pale silver instead of gold to appease the more religious attendees.
Egg could barely tell the difference though, for you had the dress embroidered to the high heavens. Twin dragons curled across the back, golden heads resting on the front by your collarbones while their bodies trailed down onto your skirt. The rest had been beaded, magnificent swirls of black and red twisted across the fabric. It was hard telling what Maekar paid to have it made.
You laughed as you spun around the dance floor with your now husband. You laughed when you danced with Egg, ignoring how often he stepped on your toes or the hem of your skirts, shrugging off his boot prints without a care in the world. You laughed when Valarr picked you up and carried you out of the feast.
He wished he could remember the joy in your eyes, your upturned lips, if your nose crinkled when you grinned or not. But all he was left with were the echos of your laugh.
He could still hear your cries too, though he wished he couldn’t. Sometimes when his dreams decided to torment him, he’d find himself back in the Red Keep listening as you screamed at the gods for taking your baby boy.
You had announced that you were pregnant earlier that year when you came to Summerhall for Daeron’s name day. The maesters had confirmed it a fortnight ago, but you wanted to tell your family in person.
Egg couldn’t recall why they had traveled to King’s Landing when they did a few moons later, but he didn’t think he’d ever forget the gasp of pain that left your mouth as you grabbed at your belly during a walk with him in the godswood.
He’d never moved faster in his life than when he ran to find your husband.
Egg had never heard his cousin curse before. When the maesters tried to keep Valarr out of your chambers, advising that it wouldn’t be proper, he snapped at them to fuck off with fire in his eyes as he pushed past them.
The only person to rival him that day had been your father. Maekar threatened to raise the seven hells and descend one upon each kingdom if anything happened to you.
Your babe had come too early and there was nothing you or anyone else could do to save him.
You stayed abed the remainder of the time your family visited. Your labors had not been easy and you were instructed to do as little as possible while you regained your strength. You appeared just long enough for your son’s funeral and to wish your family safe travels when they departed.
Egg was sure you had met in-between, but he next remembered seeing you on the journey to Ashford.
Your family had come to Summerhall first. It added an extra day of travel, but allowed a break from being on the road, something you were grateful for as your belly swelled again.
You existed in small glimpses, sitting in the viewing stands mostly. You were there when Valarr went undefeated in the first nights jousts, beside him during the trial of seven, and clutching your husband when news of Prince Baelor’s death was announced. You stood strong during the Prince’s funeral.
You and Valarr returned to King’s Landing and the rest of his family to Summerhall. Egg himself was allowed to continue squiring for Ser Duncan, the pair setting off on the road shortly thereafter.
It wasn’t until later, after Dorne reopened their access roads, that news of what had transpired during the Great Spring Sickness finally reached him.
King Daeron II had gone first, too old to fight the illness. Next to fall was the young Prince Matarys a fortnight later. And finally the sickness took Valarr, only days after his brother.
Valarr’s death had kickstarted your labors a moon too early. This time they lasted too long, took too much. You gave your life to bring your daughter into the world.
He would learn later that your father had not made it to the Red Keep in time to see you before your death. He had barely made it before the funeral. Your body laid next to Valarr’s on the pyre. Maekar was the one to light it.
He was never the same after you died. He had your personal items returned to Summerhall. They slowly began appearing in Maekar’s solar, trinkets he had gifted you and books you used to pack everywhere with you in your youth.
Maekar had found that a few of your rings, most likely made to fit your thumb, fit upon his fingers. It would seem he’d taken up his brothers habit of fiddling with his rings, your rings. It brought him comfort.
The rest of your jewelry and your dresses were left for your daughter. Your sweet girl who would never know her parents, their gentle touch or soft voices, but she would know of you.
Maekar talked about you constantly, to Egg, to your daughter, to anyone who would listen. He also spoke as if directly to you often. How should he handle your daughter’s recent actions? Who should take lordship over Harrenhal? What should he do about House Peake?
The last words Egg remembered his father saying before he was killed during the Peake Uprising were to you. Maekar had spoken to you almost like a man would pray to a god before the Storming of Stormpike. He asked for your strength, for your courage, for your forgiveness.
When Egg was crowned King after Maekar’s death, when he married Betha Blackwood, when he had his sons and daughters and got to watch them grow, all he could think of was you.
You, his poor sweet sister, who should have lived a long and wonderful life. You who should have gotten to see your daughter grow up and have many more babes after if you desired. You who should have been been next to your husband as he was crowned and became rulers of the Seven Kingdoms.
I’ve had a thot. It possessed me while listening to ‘Give It Up To Me’ by Sean Paul. NSFW under the cut
Imagine Baelor is crowned King, because you know how he survives the Ashford Tourney, and everyone is enjoying the feast after the coronation. You’ve both had just a little too much wine by the time the night ends and you’re back in your bedchamber.
Baelor has watched all night as people celebrated him and now he wants to celebrate you. He takes his crown and places it on your head before giving you titles of your own, whispering them against your mouth as he undoes the laces of your dress.
Power play because you might be the one naked, but he’s the one kneeling on the ground worshiping your cunt while you wear his crown. You’re both giddy calling each other by your titles even though it’s sappy as hell.
“Anything for my Queen.” “Just like that, my King.”
After you finish on his tongue, you tease him while you slowly undress him. A soft press of your lips under his ear as you unclasp his cape. Your nails lightly scraping down his back after you rid him of his shirt.
He ends up lying with his back against the pillows as you ride him, hands grasping tightly at your hips and thighs. The crown is still shining atop your head, because his Queen should always be above him. Both metaphorically and because he loves watching the way your body moves.
By the morrow you’re both exhausted and your maids can’t seem to keep their eyes off the marks Baelor left on you.
If anyone’s wrote something like this already TAG ME or I’m gonna have to woman up and write smut for the first time!
Hey y'all! I plan to write for quite a few Targaryens, so to make my life easier I’ve created my own house to use. I wanted to make this so if anyone was curious about House Belsaryon they could find all the information here.
If anyone wants to use House Belsaryon or their homeland, Ānogrājon, in their writing that would be insane in an amazing way. Just make sure to credit me! I'd love to see what you make of it.
HOUSE BELSARYON OF DRAGON CREST
HOUSE WORDS By the Blade
COAT OF ARMS A silver sword with two red drops of blood on purple. Many members of House Belsaryon have had personal arms which include different angles and styles of sword and varying number and arrangement of the red drops of blood.
REGIONS Ānogrājon (The Isle of Blood) - a large island in the Narrow Sea situated between the Crownlands and Pentos
SEATS Bloodhaven Bladespoint
TITLES Dragonlord (pre-Doom) King/Queen of Ānogrājon Prince/Princess of Bladespoint
HISTORY House Belsaryon is a noble family of Valyrian descent who currently rules over Ānogrājon. A number of their customs differ from those in Westeros, like their practice of granting inheritance to the eldest child regardless of gender.
House Belsaryon’s survival of the Doom of Valyria was accidental. Daerion and Aerina Belsaryon were traveling the colonies of the Valyrian Freehold in celebration of their marriage when the Doom happened. With nothing more to their name than their dragons and their swords, they flew to Kyrivos, an underdeveloped island in the Narrow Sea, and claimed the cliffs to the north as their new home.
Using their knowledge of magic, mostly blood magic, the pair were able to help Kyrivos flourish. The people fancied them leaders. By the time their first son, Jaelon, was born they were named the Blood King and Queen. Construction began on the city of Dragon Crest and the castle Bloodhaven. By the time their third child, Saerena, was born, House Belsaryon had control of the island now called Ānogrājon: the Isle of Blood.
House Belsaryon was able to save some of the Valyrian practices. They still honored the Valyrian Gods and their dragons bred in the caves under Dragon Crest. What King Daerion and Queen Aerina could remember of magic and Valyrian history was documented in books kept safe in the library of Bloodhaven.
The children of House Belsaryon are raised with a book in one hand and a blade in the other so that they may know how to rule and how to defend themselves. Horse riding is taught as young as six and dragon riding is usually introduced only a few years later.
Once Bladespoint is finished near the Heartwoods, the heir apparent is sent there when they’re of age to rule over the surrounding towns until the time comes for them to take over as ruler. The heir apparent is therefore named Prince or Princess of Bladespoint.
While the Belsaryons typically marry people from the free cities or the island itself, it wasn’t uncommon for them to marry a lord or lady from Westeros as time went on. Prince Vaeryn Belsaryon even had a Targaryen bride, Princess Lucenya Targaryen, niece of King Viserys.
Despite not having any stake in whether Rhaenyra Targaryen or her brother, Aegon, took the Iron Throne, House Belsaryon backed the claim of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons. Some say it was a favor for Princess Lucenya and others that it was simply because Rhaenyra Targaryen was the eldest child.
After the Dance of the Dragons, where two of Prince Vaeryn’s children are murdered, the Prince swears to never step foot in Westeros again. Princess Lucenya vows much the same, although it is said that she often longed to be back in the Red Keep again, just as it was when she was a child before the war.
By the time King Tesarys Belsaryon comes to power, there is peace between him and King Daeron II Targaryen. House Belsaryon and House Targaryen remain friendly for many years until King Aerys II Targaryen is crowned. A year into his reign, House Belsaryon pulls back out of Westeros and returns to their true home, Ānogrājon.

SUMMARY: Baelor is struck down during the trial of seven, but all you can see is Valarr lying on the field.
CONTENTS: blood, injuries, Baelor dies in this one (sorry), death, panic attack
WORD COUNT: 1.1k
A/N: This was written before episode 5 was released and I haven’t read the books yet, so it’s probably not super accurate to the trial but I did my best. I know this isn’t how Baelor technically dies in the book, but it’s for the plot.
Not proof read, this crime of passion was written while I was at work :)
The trial devolved quickly, not uncommon when packs of men take it upon themselves to sort things out with blades and lances.
You watch as blood stains the mud, spilling from senseless wounds. Ser Duncan had already lost two men, one lying motionless on the ground as the other clung to his horse in an attempt to stay in the saddle.
Aerion’s side faired better. Despite also being down two, one of the kingsguard appeared to only be unconscious with Daeron staying down near the edge of the arena after being unseated.
The viewing stands felt unnervingly empty with only Lord Ashford and his daughter sat beside you. Baelor had directed you there earlier before the trial. You hadn’t figured out why he was so quick to get you out of your tent until he rode into the arena clad in Valarr’s armor.
Your breath caught in your throat as you watched Baelor swing at one of the kingsguard.
You knew Baelor was under the armor. You could tell from the arc of his attacks, how he shifted his feet, the way his movements were too stiff. Your mind knew that it wasn’t Valarr, but your heart couldn’t reconcile the difference.
Your vision began to blur, eyes unable to focus, as Baelor switched targets, now standing between Maekar and Aerion. There was a pause, a second where you were sure the two would not aim at each other, before Maekar charged at Baelor.
You ran your hands down your skirt, scraping skin against embroidery as you tried to get the sweat off your palms. Had your dress always been tied so tightly? Laces dug into your back through the fabric of your shift, seams burrowing into your ribs.
Baelor’s movements were stunted, restricted by his—no, Valarr’s—armor.
Where was Valarr?
Where was your heart?
A swing too close to Baelor’s head causes your stomach to flip. Sweat collected on your brow as a chill ran through you, like you might as well have been bare on a winter morning.
Could you normally feel your heart in your chest and nothing else? Your ribs seemed to be the only thing keeping it in place, keeping it caged inside your body before it could flee the way you so desperately wanted to.
Your hands were moving on their own now, fingers curled into fists, nails digging into skin. They shook in your lap.
Lyonel Baratheon joined Baelor in his battle against Maekar. Unable to advance against the both of them, Maekar quickly switched to defense, fielding off Baelor’s quick jabs and Lyonel’s crushing swings.
You were swaying, someone tugging on your sleeve. Lady Gwin Ashford was beside you, saying something as she continued to pull at your dress. You stared at her mouth, but you couldn’t make out her words.
Gwin was pointing now. Ser Duncan was dragging Aerion across the field toward the viewing stand.
A sickening clank caught your attention, eyes freezing on the source of the noise.
Baelor collapsed, head slamming into the mud as his body hit the ground. Maekar’s mace was already raised for another strike, built up energy carrying him more than sense.
Suddenly everything was too loud.
“I yield.”
Defeat and anger colored Aerion’s voice, the crowd shouting and cheering for Ser Duncan. Gwin was squealing in your ear as Lord Ashford told her to quiet down.
Scream!
You couldn’t breathe. Your lungs refused to take in air, chest frozen as you try to force yourself to inhale.
Say something!
Lyonel kneeled next to Valarr—Baelor—and put his hand against his chest plate. Maekar was a statue, mace still raised as though he forgot how to move.
Someone screamed. Air rushed back into your lungs.
You pushed yourself up from your chair, hands barely catching on the railing before you could fall.
Valarr. You have to find him.
You glanced back to the field, knees nearly failing as you watched Ser Duncan pick up Valarr’s—Baelor’s—head trying to get him to respond, a large dent in the side of his helm on display.
You needed to move. Stumbling down the stairs to the grass, you narrowly avoided people rushing around behind the stands.
All you could hear now was shouting. Increasingly panicked voices laid over screams and children’s cries, probably scared by all the noise.
Walking back toward the field, you caught sight of your tent. The red fabric swayed in the breeze. The dragons adorning the top seemed somber now instead of the bright, fierce protectors you jested about when they were first put up.
Finally, you spotted your husband.
He stood braced against the fence dividing the living quarters from the field, knuckles pale from how tightly he gripped the board.
Gods, had he been standing there the entire time?
You were so distracted trying to calm yourself once Baelor revealed that it was him in Valarr’s armor and reminding yourself during the fight that you had forgot to look for him.
“Valarr!”
You collapsed into him before he could fully turn to you, arms wrapping around him under his cape. One of his hands came up to cradle the back of your head as the other pulled you in, crushing you to his chest.
For the first time since the trial began, you felt like you could truly breathe.
As selfish and cruel as it was, you were relieved that Valarr had not been the one in his armor and lying on that field. You had only been married a few summers. You weren’t ready to lose your heart. Not now, not for a long while.
Faint gasps fanned against your ear as Valarr shuddered. You shifted, turning you both so his back would be to the arena, keeping his sight away from his father.
The two standing kingsguard and some of Lord Ashford’s men were keeping the crowds at bay, giving space to the ill-equipped men checking on Baelor. They had managed to get the crushed helm off. A concerning amount of blood coated your good-father’s head and the hands of those around him. Too much blood.
You felt a stray tear hit the top of your shoulder. Valarr had seen everything. He knew his father wasn’t walking away from the battle.
You were able to hold your heart in your hands, but his would never be the same again.

The wind always felt different this time of year. It was talkative, slipping through Megan’s outstretched fingers in an attempt to get her to follow it. The damp breeze flowed through her, curling around her body and ushering her toward the fields.
It had been a bad few days and she could tell Mother Nature had no intent on letting up anytime soon. A real bad storm had rolled through Missouri a couple nights back and the meteorologists now had their sights set on central Oklahoma. As did every amateur storm chaser in a 100 mile radius.
“Honey, stay back from the road. Please?”
Bill Harding was topping off the tank of his truck, trying to keep his daughter from mindlessly wandering head first into traffic as she stared at the clouds. He’d been gone since the outbreak started three days ago, finally on his way back home when Jo called to tell him that they were on their way to El Reno and to meet them at a gas station on Route 81.
Jo had stepped inside to grab some coffee and water and hopefully snag a look at the gas station tv, badgering the cashier into changing off The Dukes of Hazzard reruns and onto the weather channel.
“Sweetheart, I’m serious.” Bill wrapped his arms around Meg’s waist and pulled her back, breaking her out of her trance as a semi blew past them. She blinked back at her dad as he nearly doubled over, letting out a heavy breath.
“Sorry, daddy. Didn’t mean to, honest,” she said, eyes already back to the sky across the way. “She’s just loud today. Doesn’t wanna be ignored.”
Bill joined his daughter, arm resting around her shoulders as he analyzed the wall cloud miles away. He could see the rotation, clouds beginning to swirl as the sky took on the same color as the grass. They weren’t going to have much time if they wanted to reach El Reno before the storm.
“Honey, go get your mom. It’s time to go.” Bill ushered Meg toward the small gas station as he broke off to climb in the front seat of the Dodge, scanning the radio to see if he could pick up anything about the weather himself.
Once inside, Meg found her mother leaning over the counter fiddling with her keys as she listened to the weatherman read out warnings.
“The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a tornado warning for western Canadian County in central Oklahoma, southern Blaine County in Northwest Oklahoma, northern Caddo County in Southwest Oklahoma until 4:30 p.m. A larger violent tornado was located…”
“Mama, dad says it’s time to go.” Megan’s voice pulled Jo away from the tv. She thanked the cashier, handing Meg her water as she pushed open the door with her shoulder.
Bill still sat with one leg hanging out the open driver’s side door, spinning the nob on the radio as he failed to find a weather report.
“It’s the middle of an outbreak,” he groaned, thanking Jo as she handed him a coffee. “How is nobody reporting on this?”
“Honey, I don’t know, but there’s already been a confirmed tornado. If we don’t get a move on now then we won’t have time to get the stragglers into shelters.”
Bill nodded along to her words as he set his coffee in the cup holder, stepping back out of his truck. He pulled Jo into his side, laying a lingering kiss on her forehead before he swiftly let her go to wrap his arms around Meg.
Megan had a tendency to throw her whole body weight into her hugs. Cute when she was four, but now at 14 it was getting harder to stay vertical when she did it.
“Love you, dad.” Her voice was muffled into his chest. He gave her one final squeeze before he let her go.
“Love you too, sweetheart. Both of you.” He hopped back into his seat, reaching for the door handle with a grin on his face. “Now, let’s go race a tornado.”
Jo and Meg jogged over to Jo’s yellow Jeep, scrambling into their seats before fastening their seatbelts. Meg felt like a kid again, getting to chase storms with her parents and all their friends. She wondered how Rabbit and Beltzer were doing.
Jo pulled out first, Bill following close behind. Megan had never been allowed to sit in the lead car, her eyes bouncing around everywhere to take in the storm.
The grass rippled across the fields as the wind rushed through it. She was always a little bit jealous of how the grass could so easily bend and sway to the dance of the wind. She didn’t get to dwell on it long before the rain began beating down on the windshield.
“Damn it,” Jo cussed, the windshield wipers doing little to help her regain sight of the road ahead. The rain was falling in sheets now, impeding her view in front of the car further. If the weather reporter was right, then they should have 10 minutes once they reach El Reno to help gather whoever hadn’t made it to a shelter and get them to safety.
Jo reached across the center, grabbing Meg’s arm and rubbing her thumb soothingly on her inner wrist. Jo wasn’t exactly thrilled about having her daughter in the car with her as she was storm chasing. Especially since they were attempting to get in the tornado’s path to help others, but with the other option being to leave Megan at home by herself in the middle of an outbreak, here she was.
Meg wrapped her right hand over her mom’s, returning the favor by loosely threading their fingers together. Was she now awkwardly kind of holding her own wrist? Maybe, but at least her mom seemed happy.
A sharp gust of wind rattled the car, pushing it toward the oncoming lane. Jo released Meg’s arm, both hands back on the wheel as she fought to continue going straight. Jo glanced in the rearview mirror, releasing a breath when she still saw the headlight’s of Bill’s truck.
Meg turned her head back to the side window. The wind was strong enough now that it wasn’t just pushing the car around the road, but she could hear it whistling on the other side of the door. It wrapped itself around the Jeep, pressuring the weak points like it was trying to invade, like it was trying to tell her something.
“Something’s wrong,” Meg croaked out. The grass was dancing alongside them, reaching out for her. It was trying to warn her. She just wished she knew what it was saying.
“Nothing’s wrong,” Jo reassured her. The rain was starting to let up, the road becoming clearer. “See look, everything’s fi—“
Something big smashed into the side of the truck bed, sending the jeep fishtailing off the road. A scream escaped Meg.
“It’s okay. We’re okay. We’re okay.” Jo wasn’t sure if she was trying to comfort her daughter or herself anymore, but the breath left her body when she finally looked forward again.
Giant, black swirling clouds filled the windshield. Debris battered into the side of the Jeep. Bits of grass, road signs, scrap metal, all flying by faster than they could process it. That’s when Jo realized.
She didn’t see Bill’s red Dodge.
Unfortunately, Meg realized it too.
“Mama, where’s daddy’s truck?” A sob escaped before she could catch it, instantly beginning to hyperventilate.
“I don’t know, baby. I don’t—“ Jo paused, her heart dropping into her stomach.
Circling the tornado, hundreds of feet in the air, was a red pickup.
Meg’s renewed cries broke Jo’s eye contact, pushing air back into her lungs. She lunged for Meg, gently pulling her head down towards her and away from the scene in front of them.
If that really was Bill’s truck, then there was no way in hell Jo was letting Meg watch it get thrown by the tornado.
“It’s okay, baby. It’s gonna be okay.” Jo continued to repeat the words she no longer believed herself, fingers running through Megan’s hair in a useless attempt to soothe her.
Within minutes the wind and rain was gone and with it, so was Bill Harding.

SUMMARY: District three was not a career district. The recreational center in it was nothing more than a training center marketed as just a place for kids to have fun. It was where Alexa Wynn had learned basic survival skills, tablets overflowing with any piece of information she'd ever want to know. It's where she'd learned how to wield weapons, going through knives, swords, axes, spears, and many others until she was confident she could win with anything she was given. It's where she learned to swim, climb, and run long distances without wearing herself out.
Alexa had never wanted to go into the games, but after losing her older brother to them, she refused to be unprepared. And maybe the reaping really was rigged or maybe fate really was just that cruel, for Alexa's name was drawn from the bowl just two weeks after she turned sixteen. The last thing anyone expected was for her to actually win her game. The bloodiest one in years, the Capitol preached, and the pearl white snow that blanketed the map only showcased how true that statement was. If only Alexa could have known that it was just going to get bloodier from there.
WARNINGS: canon violence, blood, death, sex work (forced), drugs, -more to be added-
SUMMARY: Finnick keeps Alexa company at a capitol party.
WARNINGS: illusions to sex work, mentions of drugs and death, dissociation

PRETENDING WAS THE EASY PART. That’s what she told herself. It was almost second nature at this point. Repressing what she felt and instead putting on an act, showing people what they want to see. It was easier that way, less barbaric, when she followed along.
The Capitol parties were always a good test of her patience. Alexa was always pushed to the limit to see if she could disguise the loathing and repulsion she felt for all of them. It was partnered with an intense sense of guilt that would catch her by surprise every time she was happy to see another victor there, like a snake coiling around her ribcage and squeezing til she was out of air and she couldn't hear anything but her heartbeat in her ears.
It was twisted in a way. She would be glad to see another familiar face only to be blindsided by the burning anger at herself for being happy when another person is stuck in the same situation she was. She figured she’d eventually get over the self-loathing, but apparently she had enough hate in her heart to go around.
It was a hate that increased tenfold when an arm wove itself around her waist and pulled her into a conversation like she was actually interested. She was definitely getting better at faking it. The smile she felt on her face never would have fooled anyone seven years ago.
Seven years ago she never would have expected to have Capitol viruses hanging all over her either. Touching her hair, her face, her shoulders, any part of her that they could reach. They would dote on her like she was a shiny new pet. To them she was. Nothing more than a brand new toy they got to play with.
Alexa barely paid attention to anything the man was saying, a drink practically being forced into her hand. She could drink it and hope it wasn’t roofied, that it would be strong enough so she could blur through the next few hours. Or she could skip the risk of it being drugged and instead run the risk of him getting disproportionately upset because how dare she deny his kind gesture.
His hands were wandering, they always did. Like clockwork they pushed a strand of hair from her face, fiddled with her necklace and trailed across her collarbone, traced up her ribcage and stopped just below her chest, not daring to be improper in a public setting. Alexa was sure he was saying something, but she couldn’t seem to hear him, all her interest absorbed by the drink in her hands.
It was in intriguing shade of purple, with glitter sparkling throughout the glass. She knew from experience that sometimes the most appetizing looking food in the Capitol had the most revolting tastes and affects. If she never smelled cinnamon and licorice again she could die happy.
She didn’t have much time to contemplate her drink further, or pretend to entertain the man who attached himself to her before he let her go like she had the plague and disappeared. The man who took over his place was definitely an upgrade and one she couldn’t be happier to see, despite the devil on her shoulder screaming that she was a horrible person for thinking it.
Finnick Odair never did have a humble presence. He was dressed in an obnoxiously nice suit that didn’t match his style at all, no doubt provided by a stylist like her dress was. Alexa wondered if the horrible color matches were a joke by President Snow, Finnick’s suit an interesting deep purple that did nothing for his complexion and her’s an oddly bright orange that she never would consider commissioning a piece in. She did favor the purple of Finnick’s suit over the purple of the drink she was handed though.
“You look like a highlighter.”
“And you look like a cluster of grapes.”
“Did you know that grapes aren’t actually purple? They’re red, they just paint them purple.”
There was a long pause as Alexa stared at him, her eyebrows drawn together and her mouth slightly open. The smile on his face almost made him look like he was proud of what he just said. Maybe he was.
“I know about the grapes,” she retorted, finally discarding the sparkling glass to the counter behind her, as far away from her as she could manage without looking strange. “What did you say to him to make him flee so quickly?”
The change of subject was harsh, but if she focused on the fact that she was dressed like an oversized construction cone any longer, she was going to fling herself from the balcony.
Finnick just shrugged, moving closer and leaning against the bar next to her.
“I told him that Mersa Bardot has had her eyes on you all night and that seemed to do the trick.”
Alexa’s lips parted just enough for her to take in a sharp breath, whipping around to stand in front of him so she could look him in the eyes.
“You didn’t.”
“I definitely did.”
“You idiot,” she jabbed him lightly in the ribs. “If word gets around that Bardot is looking at me, she might actually get some ideas.”
“Come on. You can’t deny that she would be better than whatever he had in mind.”
His lips quirked up as he saw her actually consider his words, her eyes narrowing when she reached the conclusion that he was probably right. He knew she was partial to men, but he also knew that women were preferable. They were often slightly more considerate when it came down to it, even if it was nothing more than just ignoring them instead of tormenting them.
His posture relaxed when he heard her sigh in acceptance. She nearly collapsed back into her spot against the bar, Finnick sliding an arm over her shoulders so she could lean against him. All the fight she had in her to go back and forth with him was drained from her body, her energy slowly leaving now that she didn’t have a client to please. She was sure that they’d be punished for not mingling at the party and pushing their assets later, but currently Alexa wasn’t really sure she cared.
“Have you seen Cashmere tonight? I heard a couple people asking about her as I was making my rounds.”
Finnick always was softhearted, looking out for everyone even when it wasn’t for his benefit. She wouldn’t deny it if someone said that she was softhearted as well. After all, it only took a mutual understanding for her to feel for someone’s situation, but there was something about the way Finnick cared about others that was beyond genuine.
“She was here last week. I’m pretty sure she was sent home until the reaping.”
This caught his attention. Why would Alexa know Cashmere was here unless she was too.
“Did Snow have you here last week? Last week and this week?”
She simply nodded her head, too exhausted to meet his eye or respond verbally. The more she thought about how long she’d been in the Capitol recently, the more she seemed to shut down. She decided that if she just didn’t think about it, it was like it wasn’t happening at all. It was like a vague nightmare she was stuck in that she’d wake from eventually.
“But last week was your birthday. Don’t tell me he made you work on your birthday.”
She shook her head no this time. Technically she never worked on her birthday, she just worked two days before and the day after.
“No, I worked a few days last week but not my birthday.”
“Have you been home at all then?”
He didn’t really need the answer to that. It was obvious that she hadn’t been home in a few weeks. After the party tonight, they’d probably get lucky to go home the next day and stay until the reaping, where they’d inevitably be shipped back to the Capitol with their tributes and mentor partner.
She never responded but Finnick kept talking anyway.
“Don’t worry. I’ve already got your gift ready for you when we come back for the games. Would have given it to you tonight but I wasn’t sure if you’d be here so I didn’t bring it. I bet your family’s got everything ready for you back home too.”
She hummed along to him, grabbing his hand and shifting it down to her side so she could play with his fingers as her eyes closed. She hadn’t truly relaxed since she’d gotten to the Capitol. Finnick figured if he could give her a sense of comfort, even if it was small and temporary, he’d allowed her to enjoy every minute of it.
He’s seen where she goes when she’s left on her own, like a ghost floating around somewhere in the recesses of her mind while her body just goes though the motions. He’s been there before, Alexa being the person to ground him. He wasn’t going to let anyone bother her until she was ready. Not if he could help it anyway.
