Dedra’s camera roll while she’s dating Syril

I’m super into Dedra genuinely deeply caring about Syril and honestly wanting what’s best for him and trying to treat him right, while she ends up horribly mistreating him purely by accident because her sense of morality and what’s appropriate in interpersonal relationships has been so warped by her fascist upbringing.

Which is exactly what I think happens in canon. I don’t think Dedra sending Syril to Ghorman was a purely selfish thing, I think she knew he dreamed of working for the ISB and she saw it as a way making him very happy while simultaneously also benefitting herself and the Empire in the process, a win all round. She’s just so fucked up that she honestly didn’t understand that sending someone to bond with a bunch of people and then using them as a vector to kill said people is the one of the cruelest possible things you can do to someone.

I like to think of other circumstances where the same sort of thing happens. Where she thinks she’s scoring top tier girlfriend points by doing something absolutely fucking evil. Or doing things to him for the sake of her own self-indulgence that she honestly doesn’t think will seriously bother him, but which are actually extremely harmful.

Dedra and Syril's journey from "he belongs to me / I belong to her" (possession and control) to "he / she is a part of me" (merging souls in the most peculiar way possible).

The idea of them going from Dedra viewing Syril as an object she can control if she so chooses (while he happily cedes all control to her, he will do anything for her after Ferrix, anything) to Dedra becoming protective of him in a weirdly possessive way ("he might be just an object, but he is MY object, and if you hurt HIM you undermine ME") to Dedra not even realising how and when he crawled under her skin and into her heart, but he did (and now if you hurt him it hurts her too).

Not her property anymore, but a part of her. Hopelessly intertwined, even if she doesn't fully realise it. If anything happenes to him it won't feel like losing a toy, it will feel like losing a limb, or a vital organ, or maybe her sanity. (And then Ghorman happens... and she loses a part of herself for good.)

Fun little fact about me: Since the beginning of 2022, I’ve been taking/making 3D images (called stereoscopic pictures a.k.a. stereos) where one can snap a photo of a subject from two slightly different angles that represent how each of our eyes look at that subject, and then when placed side-by-side, one can move their eyeballs so that the image ‘pops’ out, which mimics the way our brains generate depth perception. Fortunately enough, there are now apps out there that can convert pre-existing 2D pics into 3D (the app that I used is called i3DMovieMaker), and with some tweaking, one can generate a pretty good stereo. So for Kyle’s birthday today, I decided to make one of Syril’s season 1 poster!!

The way you view the top pair (called a parallel stereo) is by ‘relaxing’ your eyeballs as if you’re staring off into infinity. It takes a while for many folks so please don’t panic if you don’t see it right away! The way you view the bottom pair (called a cross stereo) is by simply crossing your eyes. The last pic is for those who own a pair of anaglyph glasses! 😆
