July 1st, 1863 

The Battle of Gettysburg begins with Confederate Maj. Gen. Henry Heth’s troops approaching Brig. Gen John Buford’s in the town. Gen. Robert E Lee’s fear of a general engagement is recognised when clashes erupt between the forces following Federal Maj. Gen. John Reynolds’ arrival on the field. After Reynolds is shot and killed, fights occur around the town, including down the Harrisburg Road and Seminary Ridge. The day ends with the Federals having retreated onto Cemetery Hill, the high ground south of the town where they are reinforced. (x) (x) (x)
