A true story from the Society of Illustrators exhibition on Thursday. The bar there served me the biggest Sidecar I'd ever seen.

I used to draw short journal comics like this a lot - 3 times a week for 5 years, actually, but I haven't done it regularly in a long, long time. But I did this for #makeaterriblecomicday2024, because it is mandatory. I think the drawing is pretty good, but not worrying about the quality allowed me to crank this out in about half an hour.

I should make more.

I made some printable undead minis for your Halloween D&D game! 

That’s a Skeleton Warrior, a Flameskull, a Lich, a goblin skeleton, two zombies, a dracolich, and a zombie ogre.

Just cut them out along the thick lines, fold along the thin lines, and tape the bottoms together. It works best if you print on cardstock, and if you tape a penny to the inside to keep them from blowing over. Check out more here.

I’ve created a bunch of paper miniatures, inspired by the bad guys in the Hoard of the Dragon Queen D&D adventure. But every good adventure involves some evil cultists, so I'm sure you'll be able to use them for whatever evil demon-worshippers you’ve got in your home campaign.

I love modrons, so I made some paper miniatures that I could use in my home game. Above you'll find a monodrone, tridrone, quadrone, quadrone enforcer (4 quadrones combined), and Modron Hierarch (dodecodrone).

(I did not include the duodrone because it is stupid.)

Because the Modron Hierarch has 12 faces (a feature I shamelessly ripped off from The Phantom Tollbooth), I made this chart to use during my game. At the start of the Modron Hierarch's turn, roll a d12 to determine his personality:

I've made another patch of paper minis that you can print out and use! This time it's a bunch of bullywugs and their giant frog allies.

I drew these guys in the “Toadwallow Caverns” portion of the Reavers of the Harkenwold 4E adventure. It also looks like they’ll turn up in the Hoard of the Dragon Queen adventure!

I’ve been making my own stand-up paper miniatures for D&D, so I figure I should share them with people! A few months ago I produced a bunch of PCs, and now I’m working on monsters.

First up is everyone’s favorite level-one nemesis: the Kobold! And I’ve given them some support with a couple of drakes, and a dragon who controls them behind-the-scenes.

(Also, I understand that these minis might be useful during the first part of Hoard of the Dragon Queen, if you’re running it this week).

I'm researching a comic about the Florodora cocktail, and I found this spectacular poem about it, published in the July 3, 1901 edition of the New York Evening World. Also, it mentions the name of the chorus girl who inspired the drink, whose name had heretofore been lost to history.

Here's the text of the poem:

Oh, siren of the summer drinks! A pale rose in the shattered ice Glows like the cheek of that sweet minx Who names this drink of paradise. Of raspberries their syrup soul From tender fruit most tender nursed And fragrant lime that reach the goal And make a blessing of a thirst. Oh, don't forget the Plymouth gin That makes of water merry jest- Its pale and weak and soulless twin That never stirred my lady's breast.

And ice! Oh cool refreshing mass! Oh grateful music to the ear! Crushed, shattered powdered in the glass, A grateful, frozen poem there.

Then ale of ginger on the top- Instinct with life and knows its biz- That leaps out with a regal pop As though it were the real old fizz.
