🏳️🌈Pride Month Day 25: Sufjan Stevens 🏳️🌈
Sufjan Stevens is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has released 10 albums over the course of his career. His music has taken on many genres, from indie folk on "Seven Swans" to disco and electronica on "Age of Adz." He is also known for his fifty states project, for which he originally intended on releasing an album for every U.S. state. However, after releasing "Michigan" and "Illinois," he said that the project had become a joke. He contributed to the soundtrack for "Call Me By Your Name" in 2017. In 2024, "Illinois" was adapted into the musical "Illinoise" that debuted in January.
His most recent album "Javelin" was the first time Stevens publicly addressed his sexuality. He dedicated the album to his late parter Evans Richardson who had passed away in April. "Javelin" wasn't the first of his works to cause fans to speculate about his sexuality. "Call Me By Your Name" was a drama about a romance between two men, and in 2019 he released "Love Yourself" and "With My Whole Heart" in celebration of Pride Month. He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome in 2023.
