Hello everyone. My family and I are still struggling with homelessness and between the heatwave and a slowly increasing cost of living, it is getting harder and harder to get by. We haven't had any luck finding work in our area and we've been expanding our search as best we can but it's still slow going. In the meantime, we need help affording food, temporary shelter, and other important needs so we can focus on fixing our situation and recovering from frequent illness. Morale is low and I'm worried I won't be able to keep up with the stress for much longer.

I greatly appreciate anyone who can help, be it through sending aid or sharing our post so it can reach others who might be able to help. Not seeing many people talk about this on Tumblr, so gonna spread the word myself: Webtoon is going to start using AI for translations and an AI chat bot with comic characters. If you're against this you should delete your account, and if you are publishing on the website, you should consider moving to other alternatives and especially having your own website to host your comic.

Also needless to say that Webtoon can absolutely afford to hire translators, this is just yet another way to not pay the people who are making the company behind Webtoon absurdly rich.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, how autism stereotypes have taken on a brand new form in the age of social media, and how it isn't good. (Ik OP said neurodivergent and not autism, still, that's what I want to talk about.)

I think in the beginning people had good intentions behind raising awareness for lower support needs autistic people, and how autism doesn't look the same for everybody because it's a spectrum, but somewhere along the way we have forgotten high support needs people entirely, and sort of "rebranded" autism into... a quirk. When it is actually a disability.

Level 1 autistic people (yes, the levels of autism are a common and neutral way to classify and label people's support needs) were pretty much handed the microphone once it became a hot topic on social media, and pretty much as soon as that happened, information about level 2 and 3 autistic people became the new "harmful" stereotypes. Nobody really cared what level 2 and 3 people had to say because they were the ones who were already heavily stigmatized.

Eventually "autism" just became synonymous with "vaguely socially awkward nerd," and then further filtered into just "nerd." And when that happened, it became offensive to talk about people who actually struggle with things due to their disability. Stating simple facts such as, "a person with autism may have difficulty with speech/regulating emotions/have frequent meltdowns" became a "harmful stereotype" just because it didn't apply to all autistic people, and especially not the level 1 folks in charge of our PR on social media.

Not to mention all the other random things that were deemed offensive? Saying "person with autism" was considered highly ableist compared to "Autistic person." I understand that some autistic folks require semantics to be a certain way in order to understand things, but I still truly do not see the logic behind this one. Not to be a debbie downer, but I think semantics are negligible when we could be talking about things that actually harm autistic people, such as facing abuse at schools/homes/facilities for disabled people.

So yeah, tldr; autism is pretty much considered a personality type now, and that has left many autistic people in the world with very little representation and little power to be heard.

I think at the end of the day a lotta folks are uncomfortable with the idea that they're capable of causing harm to others even when they're vulnerable, and rather than cope with the fact that they have a terrifying amount of agency to do both good and bad in the world and are enabled and encouraged to do bad things to others by complex systemic power structures, they just fall back on bullshit explanations about why that couldn't possibly apply to them because they're trans men or they're neurodivergent or they're bald or their cousin married a woman from the Philippines once or whatever. Because it's easier to exempt yourself from having agency than it is to acknowledge that a real society exists round you.
