Hello! This is my personal blog, where I will post & reblog random stuff/allll the fandoms that I enjoy >:D At the moment this includes the Tales of Series (my #1 even if Scamco likes to play with my feelings), Wings Of Fire, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Portal, Durarara!!, Ouran High School Host Club, and more~ Not to mention cool science, dragons, and sparkledoges. Hi, I love your dragons so much! I was wondering how you do the colours on something like that British Valkyrie breed, do you put down grey scale and put the colours underneath? Or do you do it differently?

Hi! my process for a picture like the Valkyrie goes a little like this

then either flat colors 

or modelling 

depending on how i feel. It’s essentially a greyscale but even if I have done the modelling in black i edit it to some other color. this one’s a desaturated purple.

here’s the modelling on multiply over the flats. after that looks how i want it to look (and i work on the background intermittently because I can never focus on things to work in a straightforward progression) i’ll fuse the layers and do some painting on it, add scales on another layer, work on the wing membrane, edit shadows, etc.

and get this. and edit out the palette blob before i call it done.

Don’t forget ColourLovers, either! It’s a social media-esque site where you can browse tons of palettes and share your own.

You can browse the most popular ones or search for certain colors, themes, and even specific hex codes!

When you find one you like, you can download a wallpaper swatch of it and also select the specific colors it uses to look at more palettes that use those same ones.

ColourLovers is my go-to for when I’m having trouble coming up with a color scheme! It’s also been around for over a decade, so there’s plenty to browse through.

The cs2 programs date back only a few years, and still have much of the functionality of today’s more modern ones. The differences between most of the versions are little more than slight modifications or additions of minor features, and UI changes. Go for it guys!!
