Taavi doesn’t remember much of his early childhood; just what his older sister “Mads” tells him. Something of which she doesn’t do much. Taavi knows that his real parents may still be alive somewhere in prison in Hungary, but past that he has no real connection to his past. Close with his sister and cousin, Taavi grew up fast and hard. Adopted at the age of thirteen and brought to America, he had bright dreams and hopes for the future. Instead, trusting the wrong people, Taavi brought ruin to his family. 

Sold to the underground fighting ring, the young boy was betted out five nights a week to fight for his life. Some nights he was allowed to let loose his beast, others he was required to fight with nothing but his fists. Do or die, Taavi, along with Andris, became the two best fighters in the underground. Determined to free his sister from her fate, Taavi slowly began to make connections with people who were willing to help. How they managed to work it, none will speak, but eventually they were free.

Working under the employment of Abram Varick, Taavi was taught, and quickly learned, how to repair and maintain the train tycoon’s vast roundhouse of engines. Enjoying his daytime job, Taavi still has debts to pay to those in the dark. His hits and murders make the news often. “Wild Beast on the Loose. Three Mauled to Death in Locked Penthouse.”

Born to a poor Gypsy family in Budapest, Magdalena grew up underprivileged and often neglected. Her mother’s pride and joy, Magdalena was almost completely forgotten three years later when her brother Taavi was born. The family’s salvation -- until the caravan was hunted down for stealing from a wealthy Austrian baron that brought residence and revenue to the city. Her parents, aunts, uncles, and older cousins were all imprisoned, while she, Taavi, and their closest cousin Andris were all taken to an orphanage in Debrecen and abandoned. 

At twelve, nine, and six the children remained together the best they could for the next four years. Perhaps the greatest stroke of luck the three managed in their life was when they were all adopted by an American-Hungarian family. However, their luck was to be short lived. Three Gypsy children in America were still considered to be thieves and cheats. When it was discovered that they were .....inhumane, the three were delivered to an underground fight club and Magdalena, at eighteen now, was used in less than honorable ways after fighting. 

Despite Taavi and Andris’ best efforts, their sister and cousin was prostituted out until her twentieth birthday. What happened after that, none of them will say. Only that they’re free now with their scars. Abram Varick took them in and helped them find a rightful place in society. Magdalena does well now. Working as a night concierge. She’s bad about flinching though if you touch her unexpectedly. A loner when she isn’t working, she remains close with her brother and cousin.

Nyx was born a cold winter night to an outcast; never learning her mother’s name, Nyx grew up in an orphanage under the instruction of her mistress Calileo. However, when she was fourteen, Nyx began to exhibit magical abilities - a trait strictly forbidden within Caster City. Caster City had banished all magic more than nine decades ago. By exhibiting a magical prowess, Nyx broke a cardinal law and exposed herself as a half-breed; one whose parentage was of mixed blood with the residents of Harfiendel Capital. Thrown from the orphanage on the eve of her fifteenth winter, Nyx found herself like her mother previously - an outcast. With no money to her name Nyx set out to head for the Capital. She knew nothing of her abilities other than they seemed to be tied to her emotions. A difficult ability to control for a girl cast adrift at the tender age of fifteen and experiencing the beginnings of maturity. Little did she know that far away, another was prepping for coming of age. A being with centuries beneath the moon.

A week from her destination, cold, tired, and hungry, Nyx stumbled upon a campground of roving hunters. Growing up in an all girls orphanage left Nyx at the disadvantage as she was now confronted by an encampment of men. Welcomed into the camp, the young girl thought little of the means of “payment” she was told could repay the food and shelter the hunters provided; she had, after all, always been a very good dishwasher. Awoken in the middle of the night by a half-dozen of the hunters, Nyx was drug from her bed and paraded to the middle of the camp. Stripped to her undergarments, she was forced to her knees and told of the method of her “payment” for the hunters’ hospitality. Finally coming to a dulled, childish sense of understanding, Nyx began to weep openly for her plight.

To this day she doesn’t recall anything of that night passed being forced to the ground. The following morning she awoke to find herself coddled within the wing of an amethyst dragon. To her left rested another dragon, smoke hued, and its rider. The young girl fainted from shock and surprise. When she came to she found herself resting in a cot, her right arm bandaged. Her rescuer appeared with what he assured her was edible food that required no payment. Introducing himself as Ryks, he explained that he’d rescued her when his fledgling amethyst dragon had broken free and vanished into the night sky. Ryks went on to explain that there were only two reasons a dragon saved anyone - either their rider commanded it or their rider was in danger.

It was that day that Nyx learned the reason behind her unnatural colored eyes. Dragon riders’ eyes, Ryks explained, were always the same color as their dragons scales. From Ryks Nyx learned how to control and capitulate upon her inborn magic abilities, but more importantly, she learned to bond with her dragon.

When Bella was six she knew exactly what she was going to be when she grew up. Her parents tried to encourage her into other endeavors, arts, music, science, maths all of which Bella excelled. But the little girl could not be swayed from her being a unicorn trainer. When finally convinced (at ten) that unicorns truly do not exist, Bella decided to pursue more “adult” ambitions and from there on out she was a solid student, never missing a day, and always making the highest marks in her class. However, the young girl never told a soul what her new desired profession was.

Upon entering University, Bella set her sights on a doctorate in ancient literature. What she planned do with that degree was anyone’s guess. Though her education was waylaid when she ended up in a head on collision and breaking both her arms, Bella returned to school the moment she was able. Graduating at the age of thirty-two with her doctorate in classical languages and literature, Bella took the position she’d been desiring since she entered University at eighteen – headmaster at her grade school alma mater.

At twenty-three she met a rather mysterious man by the name of Tomas Malek. Through a whirlwind romance, Bella fell pregnant. Yet, just as mysteriously as Tomas had appeared he was gone again. Saddled with an unplanned pregnancy, Bella fell into the hectic and often exhausting role of a single mother while continuing her schooling.

At twenty-nine she married, Christopher Gerry, a construction worker from Cambridge. Together they raised Bella’s daughter, Adhira, while adding another daughter of their own, Adara, to the mix. The couple’s marriage was cut to a short, tragic end when Christopher was killed on a job site due to faulty machinery. At thirty-four, Bella remarried to a supernatural writer, Nial McLean, is a career woman, and fully focused on succeeding at all.

Amaryllis works as the host and main maid for her sister and her Bed and Breakfast in the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Oconee County, South Carolina.  As the oldest of the siblings, Amaryllis has a tendency to be a little bossy toward her younger sister; however, when it comes to the financing and general day to day ordering, Ama defers to Ivy in an instant. Even when they were younger, Amaryllis had no issue letting her younger sister take the lead when she faltered in knowing what to do. While Ama can under no circumstances be called unintelligent, she can be, however, called more street intelligent than book smart. School was forever a struggle for Ama as she spent more time dreaming of life outdoors than what the square root of fifteen might be.

After highschool, Amaryllis married her sweetheart. Sadly, the relationship was doomed to fail when it came to light that her husband was more suited to drinking and abuse than he was to being a husband. After miscarrying, Amaryllis filed for divorce and never looked back. Returning home to the bed and breakfast, picking up where she’d left off, and falling back into such a routine it was almost like she’d never left.

When their parents retired from running the Azalea Bluffs Bed and Breakfast due to failing health, the sisters took over the family business to keep it from leaving the family. If one’s looking for a relaxing stay away from the hecticness of life and close to a lake, Amaryllis will be more than happy to book you a room and cook you the best meal you’ll ever eat.

Leonhard Josef Marquardt is the son of Brit Charles Wessex and German Nadine Marquardt, born April 15th, 1983. Conceived during a drunken affair in Berlin, Germany Charles was unaware of Leonhard’s existence until early 1989. However, Charles refused to be a part of his son’s life, leaving Nadine solely responsible. Nadine never married, working instead as a school teacher to support herself and Leonhard.

Leonhard never met his father, nor did he know Charles’ name and life until after Nadine had died in 2005, leaving the 22 year old boy an orphan. Not wanting to meet the man who had abandoned him and his mother, Leonhard made no attempt to contact his father - who was now a widower. Joining the military at the age of 18, Leonhard worked to obtain his medical degree while stationed in Berlin.

Working his way through university, Leonhard achieved his doctorate degree in cardiovascular studies before gaining a job at the Charité hospital as a resident physician specializing in cardiovascular surgery after obtaining his discharge from the military.

Living alone in Berlin leaves Leonhard time to travel to various medical conferences as his employers deem fit. The 33 year old bachelor enjoys the assortment of dark beers and heavy reading; H.P. Lovecraft being one of Leonhard’s favorite authors. If not at the hospital, asleep, or reading one can generally find Leonhard at the local theatre or art exhibit. If there is one thing Leonhard loves, it is the arts.

Leonhard Josef Marquardt is a military surgeon for the German 3rd Reich. However, Marquardt is not known to help soldiers regain control of their lives and learn to live without limbs and the like; Leonhard is known as an experimentalist that uses both Axis and Ally soldiers to further his medical studies.

As such, Leonhard is a staunch supporter of Hitler’s desire to encourage and establish the “Master Race.” Leonhard is unapologetic in his desires and the means in which he hopes to achieve them.

The ultimate goal that Leonhard wishes to achieve is the ability to manipulate DNA in order to unlock or alter genetic coding to create the blond, blue-eyed Master Race.

Draven Mallory Perdita was born to Mallory Perdita on February 29th, 1986 in Baltimore, Maryland. His father André Fuchs, a high born aristocrat of Innsbruck, Austria, was, and still is, unaware of his illegitimate son’s existence. Mallory worked for the Fuchs family while she was studying abroad; while on summer break, André took Mallory out to see the sights of the city. At fifteen years Mallory’s senior, the twenty-two year old considered André to be more an uncle time than a romantic interest; however, André, though married with four children of his own, believed Mallory owed him for his family’s hospitality. After being sexually assaulted by her host, Mallory dropped out of university and returned home to Maryland when her case against André was denied by the courts. Once home in Maryland, Mallory worked for an aunt who owned a photography business.

After Draven was born, Mallory committed suicide; never having recovered from her assault, the then twenty-three year old left Draven in the care of his aunt, Oshea. From a young age, Draven referred to Oshea as his mother. While never harsh and always delicate, Oshea never refused to answer questions or tell Draven the truth, allowing Draven an appreciation for his aunt, while giving him the proper chance to grieve and process through the loss of his mother.

After Oshea became unable to see properly, Draven took over her business. Having never met his father, Draven studied German so that one day he might be able to look André in the eyes and tell him how much he utterly despises his sire.

Despite his “good, next door boy” vibe, Draven is a thief. Using his photography company to locate rich clients, he exploits access to their home to learn the ins and outs, security systems, and befriending pets. While he’d never admit such, his actions are a result of his anger toward a rich father who managed to use his power and money to avoid prosecution for the rape of Mallory. A bad “Robin Hood” type in concept, Draven steals from his rich clients simply for his own amusement. Generally he auctions off his acquisitions on the black market or donates them to charity - who would deny they donated to a charity for orphans or battered women?

Draven’s most favorite joke is about his birthday. He claims that since he’s illegitimate himself, it only stands to reason he’d be born on a day that only exists every four years. An illegitimate day for an illegitimate boy.

The middle of nine children, yet one of the only four surviving, Boaz was no stranger to struggling to survive. As an infant until puberty, Boaz struggled with a frail body and constant sickness. Despite his weakened state, he managed to keep on until he could be sent to work in the mines along his father in order to help support his family. Two weeks after his sixteenth birthday (1822), Boaz’s father was killed when part of the mine where they were working collapsed. Boaz should have been with the fourteen men killed during the collapse if he hadn’t been sent out due to being unable to keep up with damp coal mining conditions. Racked with guilt, Boaz threw himself into working harder than he ever had in order to help support his remaining family. As the only surviving son, he was saddled with the position of “family man.”

Remaining a psychically weaker man, Boaz channeled the pain of his tragedy to keep his body moving even past exhaustion. Managing to put together enough of a dowry for his three surviving sisters over the next twelve years, Boaz saw all three married to fellow miners. The same year (1834), their mother went to join their father and deceased siblings. After his sister’s marriages, the death of his mother, and his once again failing health, Boaz was let nearly penniless once more. Living at the mines to conserve what monies he made, Boaz remained a single man until well past the respectful marrying age. When Boaz turned thirty-five (1841), he married Josephine Miller, the local stonemason’s widowed daughter. Despite trying, the two were unable to conceive during the first five years of their marriage, instead raising Josephine’s son, Peter, from her previous marriage. Their seven year marriage was anything but joyous as the couple experienced poverty, sickness, and the death of Peter. After Peter, an innocent bystander, was killed during a drunken bar brawl, Josephine’s health rapidly declined. When she died in 1848, Boaz felt no tie to his home town and decided to try his hand in the rapidly growing “California Gold Rush” in an attempt to, for once in his life, have wealth to his name.

Unfortunately, when Boaz had been mining little over than a year as an acclaimed “Miner 49er,” he suffered a fall from a riverbank. When he woke, he found himself pinned beneath rubble. A broken leg keeping him immobile, as the river threatened to drown him in the current. To this day, he has no memory as to how he survived, simply that he wished to be saved for an unremembered reason. He remembers only waking in a mining camp miles away from his own – six feet underground.

Today he lives as a nomad, moving his old camper from campsite to campsite in an attempt to avoid most of modern civilization. Why he’s still alive remains a mystery to the man as well. All he knows is that anytime anyone near him says “I wish” it happens. He’s been transported to the beach one too many times to find it enjoyable anymore. The problem is that wrath he just can’t seem to control…

Despite it all, he remains fairly upbeat as he tries to discover why he’s alive when all the odds wanted him dead from childhood.

Growing up to a single mother on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, Adelar worked hard to fit in at school and make good grades. Always accused of being an anchor baby, Adelar often found himself in the principal’s office for fighting. Adelar doesn’t have an inkling as to who his father is, but he is immensely proud of his mother who came America with a dream. Despite working long hours as a secretary for an accounting firm, Maria always did her best to spend time with her only son. Tragically, Maria was killed in a car accident when Adelar was eighteen.

Thrown into turmoil from the death of his mother, Adelar got a job at the local railyard, working eighty hours or more a week trying to make ends meet. His best friend, Abram Varick, helped where he could and when Adelar would let him. The boys had made a pact to purchase the rail line once they’d made it through college.

Working days and going to school at night, Adelar graduated at twenty-three with an associates in mechanical engineering. On his twenty-fourth birthday, he and Abram purchased the rail line (though, Adelar will admit that it was more Abram’s money that made the dream a reality).

Nowadays, Adelar works long hours driving the trains. Almost exclusively running the passenger line, Adelar makes it a point to walk the train before departure to interact with the passengers. Because of hard work and the kindness of others, Adelar tries to return the favor when he can and encourage others to use a little sweat and elbow grease when he can’t do anything else.

A non-practicing Catholic, Adelar makes a point to uphold his best friend’s ideology and keep public relations upbeat and welcoming.

Born to a wealthy family on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, Abram grew up an only child garnering all his parents attention. Despite being given any and everything he could desire, Abram was always a kind child, often giving away many of his own belongings to less fortunate children. His father, an investment banker, often was away working long hours, yet, when he was present he spent as much time with his son as he could. Abram’s mother, a sickly housewife, doted on her only child, while also depending on him for much of her caregiving. It wasn’t until Abram was twelve that he discovered he was the product of science and a lot of prayer.

Having grown up in a mixed community, Abram became best friends with Adelar Santiago. The boys bonded over their love of locomotives and the old west. Adelar helped teach Abram Spanish and Abram helped to better develop Adelar’s English. When the boys turned sixteen they made a pact to buy the local railroad and fulfill their childhood dreams of running a rail line.

On holidays, Abram offers special events for families, keeping the costs low to as to allow the less privileged to come and enjoy a night on the rails. The rest of the time, his rail line boasts both freight and passenger.

When his mother died, Abram, fifteen at the time, vowed to name his first train after her. The Esther Ruth is retired now, making special appearances at Easter and Christmas as a showpiece decorated for the holidays.

Having never married, and as a devout Episcopalian, Abram uses his free time to work with volunteer programs and nonprofits to help improve the city of Columbus and surrounding Franklin County.

Branwen “Wen” Thanatos

Sister to Korbin, Cowen, Kronos – well sister in the sense they all have the same job and it makes life easier to pretend they’re all related. Branwen, or Wen, works in the same hospital as Azrail and enjoys her job. Assigned to the “death hall”, Wen works with the terminal cases. With them when they’re admitted and waiting on them until they draw their last breaths, Wen is considered a hero in the hospital. It takes a special kind to be able to work next to death every day and not be shaken.

No nonsense and good at what she does, that doesn’t mean that Wen doesn’t enjoy being able to cut loose and be human. On her nights off she enjoys living the highlife and going out on the town. Owns more shiny things than you do. Bit of a flirt and not afraid to bite. Be afraid of the blonde raven on your window seal.

Originally a simple farmer from the Netherlands, Bastiaan was rejected from the Underworld when he died in battle. Told his time wasn’t up to haunt the face of the earth, he was tasked with ferrying other souls to the Nether Realm when their time came. He had but one request – his sister, Dabria, be allowed to join him when her time came. The twins were inseparable in life, it seemed only reasonable they’d be the same in death. A fan of a good PB & J, Bastiaan enjoys watching the world progress and march on with time. The centuries melting away as the sun rises each day. Bastiaan does what he can to make his existence look as normal as possible; communicating with his peers, and waiting to hear which soul he must separate from the mortal coil. His least favorite duty is when he must bring children to the judgment seat.

Living just as simply as he once did, he lives in a simple apartment close to his job, his sister just one unit over.

Azrail Jayr

Azrail was tasked with one very important duty upon his creation – noting who was up to die. He wouldn’t classify himself as evil or even cold hearted. He’s simply doing his job. Placed on the earth to appoint under Kronos whose time is at an end. Once time itself gives the cue, Azrail starts the gears in motion. One might call him Fate, another the angel of death, but no, that’s Bastiaan and Dabria’s job.

Hiding amongst humanity as nothing more than a notable neurosurgeon who takes the inoperable cases and offers them a chance to survive against the greatest of great odds; it’s not suspicious when patient after patient dies on his operating table. They were always the long shot anyway. While Azrail might not think himself evil, the mother of his child might. But that’s another story for another day … if your day’s not up.

Eloi was born in a small house just on the outskirts of Marion, SC to a financially inept family. As a twin, E, along with his sister, was given everything he could want when they could afford it. As a home schooled child, E spent much time outside learning about the work and people around him. Ever a people person, E got his first job in a small mom and pop grocery where he did everything he possibly could to help people and earn money. By the age of seventeen, E had saved up enough money to afford his parents a better life. In the mornings, he worked at the grocery store, afternoons he ran postage for the local post office. In the evening, E worked as a street performer, wowing people with his impossibly real illusions.

The only thing he had to do, was to ensure that no one realized he was a mutant. People weren’t terribly fond of the kind, but E did well enough. Nowadays, he runs his own magic shop and nighttime attraction. He still lives fairly humbly in some regards, but in all honesty, he does have a nice car.

Born five minutes after his older brother, Ciar, Zilar forever lived in his twin’s shadow. While inheriting the family’s true nature of dragons, Zilar found himself with an altogether different set of abilities. Able to manipulate, create, and control ice and cold, Zilar found himself at odds with both his fire controlling twin and father. However, despite the tension, Ciar and Zilar were often inseparable whenever Ciar wasn’t working in the family forge. Growing to idolize his older brother, Zilar often found himself taking the fall for his fraternal twin and ending up in less than favorable situations. A scar along the base of Zilar’s throat boasts his undying loyalty to Ciar. Unable to take up the family occupation as Zilar was the first “ice” dragon in the family in over a century, Zilar found himself studying books and spending hours in the library and helping his mother around the house.

After Ciar’s subsequent arrest and move to Virginia, Zilar tagged along to keep an eye on his older, more volatile brother. Because of his more outgoing and sociable nature, Zilar took up a position in a tiny bar; three years later he purchased the establishment and renamed it “Dragonfyre.” During hockey season, Zilar can be found bouncing around and driving zambonis. Around Christmas, he runs an ice rink for children (and adults) to learn how to skate. Before Ciar was taken hostage by the MOB, Zilar could be found hanging around Ciar’s forge and generally trying to make his brother smile - an ongoing and arduous task.

Tripp Constantine Jacobs grew up in a privileged home; however, it wasn’t until his eighteenth birthday that his suspicions became reality. The man whom Tripp considered his father, Melvin, was actually not blood related at all. Tripp’s mother, Angeline, had an affair which resulted in Tripp’s creation. Once the indiscretion came to light, Tripp’s older (and apparently half) brother Maverick and Tripp’s younger (half) sister Lavana instantly began to treat Tripp as if he was a plague in their existence. Maverick had always treated Tripp poorly, it was only after he had a legitimate reason to hate Tripp that Maverick became cruel.

As the children of a criminal kingpin, the Jacobs children were raised to follow in their father’s footsteps. Having no desire to compete with Maverick for the “throne” of the family business, Tripp stuck to what he did best - making others pay what they owed. Working as the family’s enforcer, Tripp remained in his step-father’s good graces, something Maverick resented greatly. Jacobs’ Fishing and Transportation was the front company of the enterprise. Located in Sydney, Australia, NSW, the business’s legitimate side was run by Lavana, while Maverick shadowed Melvin. Tripp always remained somewhere in between, never accepted, but the necessary evil of the family.

Three weeks before Tripp was due to marry his fiance, Kiara Usborne, Maverick ordered the execution of Melvin, Angeline, and Kiara. Trapping the three of them in an unused warehouse, Maverick had them burned alive. Tripp arrived on scene too late to save his fiance, and instead suffered from third degree burns down his right leg, from hip to knee. Spending the next month and a half in rehab for his leg and extreme smoke inhalation, Tripp was careful to avoid his siblings at all costs. Having no idea whether Levana was in on the murders that left the three siblings orphans, Tripp cut all contact and fled the country the minute he was able.

Because of not trusting his brother before the incident, Tripp transferred all of his funds into an account in the Caiman Islands, effectively barring Maverick from stripping Tripp of his inheritance.

Generally, the Aussie is extremely laid back and periodically over friendly. Most of his demeanour is an attempt to erase his past as a cleaner/enforcer for the family; his hands literally stained with the blood of his victims. Brutal killings were always Tripp’s forte, the bloodier the better, gaining him the nickname of ‘Crocodile’. Occasionally that animalistic side will raise up, but Tripp has sworn to himself to never kill again.

Now Tripp travels from country to country, always one step ahead of his brother. Maverick placed a bounty on Tripp’s head, and Tripp has vowed to dismantle his brother’s organization brick by brick. However, along the way, Tripp plans to eat as many sweets as he can, and pet every dog he sees. His favourite country to return to is Greece. There he does his best to help, at least, the pastry economy.
