How come in movies with apocalyptic situations thereâs always graffiti everywhere like âgod save usâ and âthis is the endâ like who the fuck has time for that put your can of spray paint away jimmy and get in the fucking van weâre trying to evacuate

kaidan alenko is a sweet and kind gentleman of color whoâs always positive and works his goddamn ass off despite a crippling disability and tries to see the good in everyone and understands the world is morally grey but the one thing that sets him off is the horrors that cerberus commits on humanity, in the name of humanity, and so he goes off on shepard one time - one time - and you call him a fuckboy and go âwhoops no he has one standard just one heâs irredeemable trashâ and iâm still nOt OveR thIS

Iâm wondering: why do people react so differently to the Alistair/Sebastian ultimatums? They are the same:Â
Alistair wonât stay with you unless Loghain dies.
Sebastian wonât stay with you unless Anders dies.
The motivations behind them are the same: both characters want revenge on the person who destroyed the things they loved.
Yet Alistair is the fandom woobie whom (most) everyone loves and feels sympathy for while Sebastian is vilified for being âextremeâ and âpettyâ (how should he have reacted to having his mother figure blown up in front of his eyes by someone who was supposed to be a friend, Iâd like to know). Â
One might say that Alistair doesnât invade a city over his grudge, but then again heâd rather the entire world burn than he work with Loghain so I donât see much difference. In fact, perhaps Alistairâs choice is worse because at least Sebastian intends to rebuild and stabilize Kirkwall; Alistair is content to live in a drunken stupor, not giving one whit about anyone.
So at the end of the day, I really donât understand why Sebastian gets so much hate over this. Fandoms donât make sense at all.
Maybe itâs directly related to the fact that Alistair and the Warden have spent the entire game chasing after Loghain, dealing with the fact that he was constantly trying to thwart them at every turn. He sends assassins after them, denies the fact that this is even a Blight, and spends most of the game (aside from the final fight) being the one youâre trying to stop. Loghain is actively thwarting your attempts to stop the Blight because he doesnât believe it is one, and knows that your very lives are a liability to him (the Wardens are supposed to be the real reason Cailin died, remember?).
Meanwhile Anders spends the entire game being your friend. Youâve known the man for 6 years when the Chantry blows up and he has not been actively impeding the progress of a mission to save the world for that time, where Loghain has. He spends the game helping you for no other reason than he is your friend, despite the fact that he runs a free clinic, writes a manifesto, and is involved with an underground resistance movement in the time he has left over. These things are all arguably more vital than what Hawke brings him along for, in the grand scheme of things, yet he helps anyways.
So while Loghain is actively trying to stop those who are attempting to save the world in order to protect the secret of what really happened at Ostagar, Anders is taking the time to help you with literally any random task you have without expecting so much as a âthank youâ. Also keep in mind that had Loghain not done all that he did after Ostagar, impeding the progress of the Warden and whatnot, the Blight most likely wouldâve ended sooner (there is debate as to whether the battle at Ostagar couldâve been won had he not pulled out, so I wonât go into that). But if Anders had not done what he did, mages all over Thedas would still be locked up and abused. These are two very different things.
Iâm not saying Alistairâs willingness to let the world burn in the name of revenge isnât worth criticizing, or that Sebastianâs immediate reaction doesnât make sense (though his invasion of a city state years after the fact when he knows, for certain, that the man heâs looking for isnât even there is absolutely deplorable). What Iâm saying is that Loghain was actively fighting against those who were trying to save the world because he didnât believe it was ending, while Anders was attempting to stop the genocide of his people.
So maybe the difference isnât who is demanding death in the name of revenge, but rather who that someone is that they want dead.

The Keepers have always been here. They will always be here. Please do not disturb the Keepers.
Your gun keeps changing. You arenât trained in assault rifles, but youâre carrying one anyway. You didnât bring a Predator, but itâs suddenly in your hands, aimed at someoneâs head. Blink. Youâre carrying your own weapons again.
You stand outside on the moon, victorious in killing an AI trying for its freedom. Listen closely in the silence of space, you hear the rachni song. Youâve read the reports: the rachni have never been to the Sol system.
Conrad Verner accuses you of waving a gun in his face. You remember giving him an autograph. But you died, somewhere between the autograph and the accusation.
You were told there were only two Ardat-Yakshi. You kill four banshees before you leave the monastery.
Youâve been in this building before, on a different colony, a different planet, a different system. But you still cannot find the door to return outside.
There is a man in the markets. He has been trying for three years to return a toaster oven. He has tried every store on the Citadel. He has no memory of buying the toaster oven. He doesnât even have a receipt.
Have you always been waiting for this elevator?
