I get misgendered all the fucking time because I wear my hair short, don't wear makeup, and don't have Anglo features. Either it's racists mistaking me for a (cis) man despite the fact that I have curves like a funhouse mirror, or it's supposedly "inclusive" people assuming I'm not a woman because I don't perform femininity. After everything they'd gone through together, all their history, their love spanning 6000 years, they literally vanished into dust.

Their "human versions" are not them. They met each other in their 50s? 60s? and will get like 30 or so years together.

No sticking together for centuries despite being from opposite factions in an eternal conflict, no developing their rivalry, friendship, and eventually love throughout the ages, no having each other's back despite the dangers of doing so, no bickering, no rescuing each other, no "you go too fast for me, Crowley", no 'our' Bentley, no "angel" as a pet name, NO THEM. quite literally the least important element of shane's relationship with food and i understand that, but macrobiotic diet as a pro athlete is a WILD choice.

low oil/low meat/focus on vegetables and whole grains/no nuts and seeds??

the quantity of food this man has to be consuming to meet his caloric needs has to be WILD. and it's whole grain and veggie focused, so my GOD the chewing. my jaw aches FOR him.

My personal theory is that he never actually had a macrobiotic diet. It most definitely would not be Optimal and we know Shane is all about Performance. Plus we see him eat cheeseburgers. I do think he tracks his macros and eats microwaved nutritionist-prepared food for every meal during the season.

However, when socially awkward Shane was confronted with an extrovert extending friendship (Hayden inviting him to dinner) he panicked and thought of the first excuse he could think of without seeming rude: that he followed a macrobiotic diet. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), Hayden did not let this deter him and Jackie had like one hour to learn what a macrobiotic diet was and make something suitable.

His bluff having been called, Shane is forced to endure “rabbit food” every time he goes to the Pike house. Jackie is really proud of her recipes. Shane can never tell.

she didn't have time to look up details the first time because she just had to find a recipe that was kind of in line with what she was already planning on making (because she doesn't want him to feel excluded!) and order groceries to be delivered, but she starts doing more research because she enjoys cooking and also wants to be a good hostess and then just 🤨 wait a second 🤨 as she thinks about what she's SEEN SHANE EATING WITH HER OWN EYES BEFORE at mixers/events and also the way he'll happily take a ginger ale no problem

and she also sees the way he picks at the food when he comes over (he'll eat most of it, but he clearly isn't used to or enjoying it, and not even in the "i just gotta get calories in even though i'm sick of eating" way hayden ends up doing during the season like all pro athletes), so she eventually decides that shane must have been making a joke that hayden didn't pick up on, and if he wants to be funny, she can be HILARIOUS.

so now she diligently prepares perfectly diet-adherent macrobiotic food and enjoys watching shane suffer while everyone else eats delicious food that is perfectly in line with the needs of professional athletes and could be all his for the low, low price of admitting defeat. concede or keep choking down buckwheat, hollander. your move.
