âThe most important thing about swimming is to not be afraid.â âWhat advice do you have for people who are afraid?â âJust donât be afraid. Or youâll drown.â (Hunza Valley, Pakistan)
Story time: I went to boarding school and one day my dad sent me a letter and told me to open it in the dining hall so I was like ??? maybe he sent something for my friends too. So I take it to dinner and open it, and it turns out itâs a card. A record-your-voice card in which my dad recorded himself yelling at the top of his lungs about how my dog pooped on the carpet. And that is the story of how my dad sent me a Howler one day.
heard you were talking shitÂ
âI wanted to be a singer. I loved music. I practiced all the time and worked on writing songs for myself. I loved sad songs especially. But the community put so much pressure on my mother. My father passed away when I was twelve. And everyone kept telling my mother that a girl could not be something like a singer without her fatherâs permission. My father wouldnât have minded. He was always so supportive of me. But my mom was so worried about what people would think. She begged me to stop. She grew so nervous that I finally told her, âItâs OK, Mom. Iâll stop.â Now I just listen to music. Itâs too sad for me to sing anymore.â

âIâm not his father. Iâm his friend.â âHowâd you meet?â âI love his mother. And it was a package deal.â
Bullies couldnât stop this 8-year-old from growing out his hair for charityÂ
When Florida 8-year-old Christian McPhilamy became interested in cancer research after watching a commercial for St. Judeâs Childrenâs Research Hospital, he decided to do what he could to help those in need. In the absence of a fat checkbook, McPhilamy did the next best thing: He literally gave the hair off his head to those struggling with cancer and other conditions like alopecia. But the story wasnât as easy as that.
i like the  photo set version of these picsÂ
âI had a rough time in high school. I was in a very deep depression. Iâve always been on the heavy side, so I got bullied a lot because of my size. I didnât have any friends. There wasnât a male figure in my life to talk to. Some people cared about me, but I blocked them out of my life. Someone told the school guidance counselor that theyâd heard me talking about suicide, so I got sent to the psych hospital for nine days. I was the oldest one there. I met kids who were a lot younger than me, and whoâd been through a lot worse things. One of the girls had been raped. The younger kids would come to me for advice, and for the first time I felt like a leader. I left the hospital with a different mindset. I realized that I wasnât on earth to be helped, but to help others.â
