While dragonrider used to be humans, they are not anymore. Once a dragonrider is chosen and becomes a Voice for its dragon, it loses the right to a face outside of its beast.

This was put in place both so that dragonriders were easily identifiable, often having ornate masks and helmets that distinguishes them from the common knight, and because it was easier to not have to think about the person they used to be.

Dragonriders seldom remove said mask. Both because it is illegal, and a hinge installed in the mask usually makes the act of eating, or anything else revolving around the use of the mouth possible without removal, but also because many dragonriders develop a strong aversion to their reflection.

Being with a dragon changes a person both mentally and physically, the telepathic bond making them lose themselves bit by bit to the interest of the beast. Their name is their dragon's name, and after enough years together, it becomes hard even for them to distinguish their thoughts from the dragon's own.

Note : my dragonrider kink worldbuilding will be pretty low effort drawings, mostly because i actually really dislike drawing humans, but they're kinda central to what i have in mind. Also, it's a kink worldbuilding, so if you're here because you a feelgood dragon therian world its... not gonna be all that clean about it. There'll be some therianthropic wish fulfilment ! but also a lot of characterisation of dragons as sometimes good and sometimes really, really bad because i love a good corruption arc.
