Since I've been talking about it again recently here's my soulmate Damon/Mc Au because fuck you I like angst & and these two people are total opposites in their upbringing
Soulmate prompt is that you can feel your soulmates emotions & sort of 'reach out' to them, and if the bond is strong enough even feel the sensations of the others experiences. However with enough mental strength, if so desired, you can block the connection.
Think of Baby Damon & MC, so eagerly sharing emotions & comforting each other when faced with their torments.
MC sitting next to a fire to keep Damon warm on Cursa's cold nights. Feeling Damon's pain as he fights and sending encouragement (& concern)
But, also Damon getting older, and getting distant, the knowledge that someone somewhere knows all his deepest emotions that he tries to hide from everyone else? It unnerves him. He eventually pulls away enough, that one day he can completely block the connection.
Now, look at MC, they haven't met Vexx yet, and their sister was mostly absent, imagine waking up every single day of your life with that warm connection to the person you are supposed to, meant to, be with. Now imagine waking up and feeling nothing. The panic that follows, desperately trying to reach out, because the only way you would feel nothing is either they blocked the connection or.....their dead.
MC in distress, "I know that they get in fights but they are always so careful, did someone sneak up on them? No they're smarter than that."
Trying anything to get a response from their loved one.
I imagine that in certain times of extreme emotion that even blocking the connection would do nothing. Whether it be utter Joy, Terror or Anger, it would wash over the block like a tsunami.
Which is how MC realizes he's in fact not dead. That's up to you how they feel about that.....
Now imagine the coup. MC's distress, confusion. The intensity washing over Damon, if only for a split second, before absolute silence. Maybe he stays strong, maybe he lowers the block if only to check on them (I personally write for the latter). I mean after all this time, the few moments of just overwhelming emotions, I'd imagine he would feel guilty if only for a little while, knowing he was hurting the person who was always there for him.
Either way there's absolutely nothing there. At least, till June brings on their stray. Once they wake up, him feeling the soft confusion mixed with a more bitter fear. Him reaching out if only gently, and MC being overcome with emotion, but cannot remember why? Why was it so emotional that their soulmate reached out? Isn't that normal? Isn't that what they're supposed to do?
From there many things could happen and it can go many different ways, hell each time I think of this it always goes different.
But I always imagine, that in time, Reed's Confession Scene from Perfumare (if you haven't read it go do it it's on itch.io its so good) but with the roles reversed ;D
