the golden-tailed parrotlet is a small parrot species endemic to eastern brazil. only about 16 cm (6.3 in) long, the golden-tailed parrotlet relies on its sharp intellect and big personality to make it in the world. like other, larger parrots, this little parrotlet is social, playful, and capable of mimicry - although this species is rarely kept in captivity, and are considered vulnerable by the iucn. their feathers are primarily green, with darker plumage on the upperside. along with their namesake golden tail, they have a yellow forehead, cheeks, and lores. males and females are similar, but females are duller and have greener tail feathers. golden-tailed parrotlets have been witnessed foraging in small flocks, theorized to be familial groups. while they haven’t been studied extensively, the diet is believed to be mostly fruit. their only known nests have been found formed inside arboreal termite nests.
