been dragging this deadline out by a week because we’re witnessing a genocide unfold and im still expected to make an animation about how small businesses can be more green and it’s not that my work should stop but i personally am not doing a very good job at sitting down and focusing on something useless. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so debilitated by my adhd as i do these days. every day in my evening hours I’ve been wasting 5+ hours trying and failing to work instead of actually experiencing any rest at all. it’s 9:30 and I’m supposed to have been working on this since 5pm and it’s not even bad work and it’s not even hard. im not relaxed im just tense and stuck in avoidance purgatory. and people are being slaughtered. and my friend in fes who has barely enough money to support his small family just found out his son needs long term medical treatment and his job doesn’t support it so he think he’ll have to turn to stealing if the bank doesn’t approve a loan, and he spent all day crying about his son being in pain and crying about the endless death in palestine. and my mother just started chemo and i video called her and I’ve never seen her look so tired and depressed in my life. and i was essentially sexually assaulted by a friend recently and i’m tentatively checking in with myself every once in a while to see how traumatized i may or may not be by it like trying to open a shaken soda. idk it’s just hard to animate things right now

fell in love with the wrooooooooooooooong person, smh so reliable, i could love the devil. i hate this man a lot because if you took away the specific traits that make him an asshole then it would be like. oh wow you’re someone who would make every day more fun for the rest of my life, fucking marry me and jump up and down out of joy like a goofball when I do a public proposal just like I know you would, because your emasculation doesn’t matter to you when I’m on one knee, everyone you’ve ever looked up to could laugh at you and you would keep grinning like an idiot because all you care about is that I love you and I’m willing to show everyone, in public, with pride, that I decided your soul was worthy of purchase. but his flaws are so comically large and absolutely catastrophic for any meaningful trust or relationship, or even like his own literal, physical survival, so I just have to sit here with this bitter feeling of adoration and addiction and idolization and disgust and scroll thru texts describing his body as needy, as my possession, saying “Sir yes sir” and “thank you babyboy ;)” in lieu of a booty call, and compare the sound of every motorcycle that goes by my bedroom window to the engine of his bike that got stolen less than two weeks ago, and then remember how he’s a dumbass and a POS but the redeeming parts of him beam with such bright light it hurts your eyes and makes you ask the air and the afterimage angels why this can’t simply be the love you were looking for, that you’re willing to settle for stupid if only he makes you feel safe. remembering that he can’t ever make you feel as safe, because he’s a fundamentally unsafe person, and he always has been and always will be, and you knew this before during and after you fell for him and yet you still eased yourself into the water like you knew what you were doing, like you had any control over the currents at all, like you’re just as arrogant as him. anyway yeah you get the point. beware the late summer fling, keep your wits about you, I think I still have mine but they’re frayed lol

something my therapist told me that personally has been rather helpful is that coping skills are not to make us feel better. they are to create space between u and ur feelings. they r to help u cope and do what u need to do. they are not meant to resolve ur negative feelings. if they do, that's a bonus. but if they don't, that's ok. learning that honestly helped so much. i'm such a perfectionist that i can't even cope if it's not gonna be perfect and this like took a weight off my shoulders. if i use a coping skill and don't feel better, that's ok. i am simply trying to distance myself from my emotion. i felt like i wasn't coping correctly before i learned this. like maybe i was doing something wrong or there was just something wrong with me.
