The amount of changes to Fjord's character is insane. It just reveals that they were cowards because Fjord was his most compelling when he was a massively charismatic guy who had been bullied and belittled, but in a crew of misfits, a hot accent and a luring gentleness goes a long way and makes you king. Additionally, I feel like they must have realized they needed to invest in Fjord/Jester stocks early and made him more bumbling and juvenile to try and fit more with Jester's vibe and where she was at that phase in her life. His culpability in being drawn towards dark magic has been completely stripped and he's just a silly little guy now uwu. It reminds me a lot of how the Shadow and Bone show runners had to completely change Mal's character cause the main love interest telling the female lead that he hates how "much she eats" was a bad look.

Mollymauk, similarly, has been sanded down of a lot of the smarmier and less attractive traits. Mollymauk was the type of guy who if he saw someone having a peanut allergy would have watched for two seconds before going, "okaaaaay, here, lets help the poor sap."

Don't even get me started on Essek. There is not an iota of the original lawful evil character in there. Now his motives are all the classic Draco in leather pants trope which is, "but my mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I am placing a giant bet right now that Caleb's trauma with his parents is going to be more mother focused to make them even closer.

Even funnier--they were terrified to let Fjord or Mollymauk be themselves at all, but they have fully leaned into cop Beau. I guess Arcane assured them that as long as she fucks Yasha in a prison cell, everything will be fine.

I find it fascinating that they didn't trust the audience to be attached to Caleb and Nott, or perhaps they were just scared to put in an amazon show the amount of Levels that were going on with Caleb and Nott. When we first met them in the original campaign they were sharing a bed with one another. They had funny stories about each other. Caleb called her his little sister, pretended she was his baby, and when someone asked if they were "together" romantically he simply agreed even though he failed to understand what was being insinuated. Nott couldn't tell if she wanted him to be her son or if she really wanted him to fuck her.

Jester is just all the things I initially didn't like about Jester, but we already know they have removed every element of her life that made these traits much sadder and more compelling. Everyone in the chateau knows Jester! It's fine! She wasn't raised by a single mother with a terrible agoraphobia and locked in a room and kept a secret!

Yasha being introduced later makes perfect sense, but good lord do I not trust them to land it and her not having her relationship to Mollymauk feels like such a loss.

them getting rid of Caleb and Nott meeting in prison is a special affront to me.

the pacing is bad and the animation looks ugly, but they got two canon Caleb moments in my book, and the first was him doing creepy whispers to scare those guys away and the second was when Nott asked who had taken his magic he responded, "someone I loved."
