Am sick so I’m rereading the fic that drew me into fan fiction in the first place, which is an ending for Dodie Smith’s I Capture The Castle.

It is a perfect gem of a story that captures Cassandra Mortmain’s voice immaculately, and also manages to wrap up what was a beautiful but unresolved ending, and also directly addresses the shadow that the looming war throws over the original book.

Anyway I love this fic so much, as much as I do the original book, and it warms me up from the inside to think of all the amazing creativity in the fandom realm. I know fandom is not all rainbows and puppies, but at its best it is so generous and wonderful.

if you’re not paying attention to trees and how they sway in the wind then what are you even doing

#unfortunately trying not to have a panic attack because the trees are swaying in the wind #it is my WEIRDEST neurosis [related to my anxiety over boats and seasickness]#what’s crazy is it got a lot better when i was on an SSRI but when i stopped it slowly started becoming a problem again #anyway. sorry op. this is just such a hyper specific thing that I had to vent about it bc I wish I were normal #[also sorry Kenna for rbing this from you to rant lol]

I’m quite fond of the film adaptation of I Capture the Castle but with each passing year I become convinced that it was the worst thing that could have happened to the book
