Some witchy things I do every day

just a little list of witchy things you can do every day

morning stretches, sun salutation

bless my morning cup of coffee, stirring three times anti clockwise (to banish the bad) and three times clockwise (to bring in the good)

add cinnamon to coffee for an energy boost

tend to my plants, either watering, pruning, repotting, or just talking to them

give thanks to my deities for the food and drink I have

I like to do a little protective blessing on my cat every day

cleanse the bedroom

check the wards and protective enchantments on my house

check my bird feeders and place protection on them, and if they need refilling, I bless the seeds or nuts for health and longevity

I take my meds, because self care is important for witches

write at least one page in my journal

check my crystals for dust and if they need recharging

check my offerings to any spirits or deities and refill them if needs be

these are all acts that don't take up much energy! as many of you know, I'm disabled and it's very hard finding the spoons to do witchcraft. these are all small, low spoon things I like to do to incorporate witchcraft into my every day life.

Did you hear about the baby witches who tried to hex the fae AND the Moon? This is not the year for that shit.

So I want to take this as an opportunity to talk about Witch TikTok, or WitchTok.

I’m not sure what exactly happened over there, but it’s like a bunch of witches convinced themselves that whatever concept they come up with is right and everyone else is completely wrong. I first heard wind of this a while ago when a witch on TikTok messaged me about how they found a TikTok about how Ouija boards were dangerous, commented on it with the correct information, and then got a bunch of hate from other witches. Lately I received a message from someone who was told on TikTok that Celtic paganism was a closed practice that you had to be initiated into, and that worshipping any gods that had to do with the fae would kill you if you didn’t worship them properly. I’ve also received this ask:

It’s like a community of people who not only refuse to listen to any kind of logic or reason, but convince themselves that the rules they make up are 100% true and anything to the contrary is 100% wrong. It’s literally an echo chamber of witches bouncing delusions of grandeur off of each other in order to feel superior.

Now they’ve apparently started a campaign to hex the moon and the fae, which is so stupid I wasn’t going to comment on it, but one friend just messaged me saying that one of their friends saw it and are convinced that the fae are going to come kill everyone. So let me just say, in order to calm everyone down.

1) You cannot hex geography. Especially geography that doesn’t exist on this planet. To think that people can have spiritual power over the Moon is bafflingly arrogant. If anyone believes that this is possible, I have a bridge for sale.

2) You cannot hex the fae. Like. They are creatures from another realm. They are more powerful than us. We cannot curse them, period. Not to mention, putting a hex on them is laughably stupid, and any attempt to harm like this will just make you into a joke among the fae. Again, thinking you have the power to manipulate a creature not of this realm is arrogant and foolish. You may as well say that you’re going to hex God.

But like, the same thing happened on Tumblr for a minute. For a while there seemed to be a twee, whimsical type of witch on here that was all about the aesthetic more than anything, and would craft silly spells about how to become a fairy or whatever. It’s a phase. If we ignore it, it will go away. I can’t see these TikTok witches being an issue in like two years. Just let them get through their witch phase, and they will either realize that they’re being stupid and actually do research to become real witches, or just move on to some other fad.

Oh the Baby Witches are driving me nuts and I’m not even a witch. 

So far I’ve seen them -

1: Trying to claim that they can go ahead and do closed practices like VooDoo even though VooDoo is NOT witchcraft. 

2: Try to summon/control the Loa. 

3: Try to fuck the fae.

4: One claimed she was “the goddess Medusa” and that she “controlled Freya” and had a short lived cult on TikTok where she did a lot of harm to younger people. 

5: Tried to cast hexes on older witches.

6: Claimed that they fucked their deities and “are pregnant on the astral plane.”

7: Several of them apparently think that skinwalkers and wendigos are harmless and one even called wendigos “big puppies.” (I should mention it’s all white kids doing this.) Others say they want to fuck skinwalkers and wendigos. (And I thought it was bad when people whiter than me screamed “SKINWALKER!” or “WENDIGO!” in the comment sections of paranormal YouTube videos for things that don’t resemble either - especially when those videos ARE FILMED IN EUROPE! I know, I’m not Native American but I at least know that not every funny shaped leaf is a fucking skinwalker! Pick up a fucking book and learn something. Actually TALK to people who are Native Americans. There’s a dude on TikTok who has done educational videos on skinwalkers. Stop getting your info from Zac Bagans and webcomics, people!) 

8: Tried to say it’s okay for them to do other closed practices such as various Indigenous and Romani ones “because they want to.”

9: Said that they can use the N-word “because I was black in my past life.”

10: Now trying to hex the fae. (The moon thing is new.)

There’s so many other people or things they could hex instead. Hex racists, hex anti-vaxxers (well, I have yet to meet an anti-vaxxer who isn’t also racist so, same thing), hex pedophiles, hex rapists, hex serial killers, hex Britney Spears’ father, hex Covid-19, hex student debt, hex medical debt, hex debt in general. 

I think WitchTok shows up a lot for me because I guess a lot of cosplayers are Pagans and Wiccans. Which is cool. I’m learning a lot I didn’t know before. I also want to take all the baby witches and give them a good smack and tell them to stop trying to fuck wendigos and hexing the fae.

Use your Think Brains and do some critical examining of your source materials. Question things, Dig deeper, Vary your sources, Come up with your own views. Don’t just get led around by the nose for the latest Social Media Video Trend.

How I Ground (as taught to me by my mom):

Close your eyes and take some slow, deep breaths (I do this sitting/laying down with my feet flat on the floor, bed, etc)

Feel/visualize the energy that is surrounding your body

Now, bring all of that energy to your core

Push it all now down towards your legs, letting it go down all the way to your toes

Now visualize it leaving through your toes and going into the ground, kind of like roots of a plant

I have used this in for grounding for witchcraft as well as when I have anxiety/panic attacks.
