i had a rough day so im going to rant about furry indie medias (its hater time)
not sure how to organize this but i feel disappointed by some transfem representation i've seen. like people want to pander to their trans fans while also not upsetting cisgender ones..?
like in sparklecare, Uni is transfem but the comic got cancelled before we saw any of that. we just know because the creator Said So. and she's out in the spinoffs but those mostly focus on her kids. (plus her personality disappeared later on because the writing got worse.. and she just becomes this bland stupid horny gamer girl gooner stereotype ugh. and it's the same story with Sly...)
jax of the amazing digital circus. people are like, "omg, jax was obviously ALWAYS trans, you just didn't see the clues." and YES, there are clues, i agreed jax was probably transfem before i saw the finale. but also, i feel like everything was designed to be deniable to the casual viewer.
dim pink room in the background
being uncomfortable in an sexy maid dress that she was forced into because people wanted to make fun of her
her eyes flash the trans colors (maybe) (for a few frames) (once) (they were also flashing a lot of other colors)
a confusing sequence in which ribbit assumes jax told her mom she was trans (i guess because ribbit knows jax better than jax thinks, and could assume this is what she was talking about? if we had more episodes/time, we could have established this better!)
a song in the background that you can re-interpret to be about a trans woman coming out (has she really even come out. She is already Dead at this point.)
a while before the finale, i had a dream where jax basically turns to the camera and says "I'm A Transgender Woman" and that was cool. instead in our reality you have to watch a 1 hour + video essay to understand why jax was really trans all along
it would be cool to have popular media in which transfems explore their gender instead of just being a loser, making redditor references, and then dying / having the series end
in deltarune we're getting hints at ralsei perhaps questioning his gender. ralsei being happier as a "princess" in an out-of-the-way cutscene, ralsei staring at a "pink and blue" drink or something like that. im kind of sick of being teased about trans rep so if ralsei doesnt turn to the camera and say "I Am Transgender" soon then i'm going to implode
and wagyu in the Objectified webcomic... i feel like we're still early in wagyu's arc.. i hope the comic will explore wagyu's gender further!
