Gabriel sighed as he sat against the wall of the alleyway hugging his teddy bear, a bit hungry.

A few minutes later, Bitty came back with a few apples.

“Gabe! I’m back!”

Gabriel got up and hugged his friend tightly.

“What took you so long?”

“Sorry, there were just so many apples to choose from!”

He set the bag down on the ground and pulled out one of the apples. Gabriel did the same, then they both started eating.  Once they both ate all the apples, Bitty threw the bag away while Gabriel sat against the wall with his teddy bear. A minute later, Bitty joined him.

They sat in comfortable silence, listening to the sounds of the city.

Then Gabriel yawned.

Bitty gave him a curious look.

“You tired?”

Gabriel looked up at him.

“A little bit...”

Bitty smiled at him.

“Then how about you rest? I’ll watch over ya!”

“You sure?”

“I’m sure. Now get some rest fluffy!”

Gabriel blushed lightly at the nickname and grumbled softly as he leaned against Bitty. Bitty chuckled.

Soon, they both fell silent as Gabriel started to doze off, holding his teddy bear close to him.

Bitty smiled at Gabe as he put an arm around him. A minute later, Gabe yawned softly and snuggled into Bitty’s side, causing Bitty to chuckle softly.

“Sleep well bud...”

“Oh.” He chuckled to himself a bit. How had he not introduced himself? “My name is Tower.” He started walking in the direction of a nearby store.

“And it fits! You’re huge!”

“That is true! Or is it maybe everyone else who is small?” He said, obviously just teasing.

After a few more moments they reached the store, and Tower stepped inside, looking for the camping aisle.

Bitty and Gabriel looked around curiously as they walked with Tower.

After a bit he found it, showing the kids the various sleeping bags and tents. “Anything here look good to you?”

The two looked over the stuff Tower showed them.

“How about we get a blue tent and an orange sleeping bag?”

“That sound good.”

He nodded and grabbed what they picked, moving down the aisle a bit to the food and water supplies. “How about we get you some containers? A few bags and something to hold food in would be useful.” Not to mention a flask so they could keep some clean water on them, that was a necessity.

The two looked over the shelves.

“That sounds good.”

“Yeah! We can keep the food we get from doing small chores in that one small store sometimes from getting dirty. Or the rare untouched food that I sometimes find in the trash!”

Gabriel nodded.

Tower is. Screaming internally upon learning this. He is going to get these children proper food or he will die. “…right! You know, I could get food for both of you if you’d like. Just tell me what kind and I can get it for you easily.” He said, grabbing the items the two had picked out and stacking them in the slowly growing pile.

The two thought for a moment.

“Hmm, not sure. I have always wanted to try red velvet cake…”

“But we should ask for normal food that can last…”

“We don’t usually go back to the same alleyway every night, and he’s likely looking for me, so he could be anywhere…”

Alleyway? He really hoped this kid wasn’t homeless, but if they were he would have to do something about it. “Well.. let’s keep looking. If he’s trying to find you then he shouldn’t be too far from here.” Hopefully.

Gabriel rubbed his eyes, then nodded a little.

“Ok…”

He then went back to walking down the street, looking around him.

Tower began to look again as well, following them down the street as he did.

About 10 minutes later, they could hear someone in the distance calling out. It was hard to make out what they were saying though.

Tower went in that direction, straining his ears a bit to try and make out the voice. He kept Gabriel in sight of course, didn’t want to lose him too.

Gabriel followed Tower, trying to listen too. Eventually, they got close enough to hear what the voice was saying, but not see who was talking.

“Gabriel!”

Gabriel gasped softly and started running.

Ah, the child recognized the voice, that was good. He picked up his pace a bit to keep close, just in case.

As they got closer, he called out.

“Bitty!”

A few feet away, Bitty ran out of an alleyway and looked around, his eyes soon falling on Gabriel. 

He stared for a second before starting to run over to Gabriel, tears spilling from his eyes.

He slowed to a stop for a moment as his eyes set on the small bomb. Ah. Honestly, he hadn’t been expecting this, but it did make some sort of sense. In any case they were both still children, and he would rather die than harm a child. He walked a bit closer, crouching down and giving Bitty a smile. “Hello there.”

Bitty hugged Gabriel tightly as Gabriel put down his teddy next to him to hug Bitty properly.

Bitty nuzzled the top of Gabriel’s head before slowly opening his eyes and acknowledging Tower.

He didn’t say anything though, since he was too focused on Gabriel at the moment. He then closed his eyes again and went back to nuzzling the top of Gabriel’s head.

He watched the two with a small smile on his face, and settled down to wait for them to notice him. He had a free day, no need to rush.

A few minutes later, Bitty spoke as he continued to gently nuzzle Gabriel’s fur, which was now white.

“You ok Gabe?”

Gabriel nodded a little, still buried in Bitty’s embrace.

“I-I’m ok. You ok?”

“I’m ok…”

“Good…”

The two went silent for a moment before Gabriel spoke again.

“I-I was so scared…”

“…Me too…”

As he watched his mind drifted to his memory. His eyes got a bit distant for a moment before he refocused himself. Not the time to think about that, there were potentially homeless children to deal with.

“…I am glad I could help.” He rumbled softly, a small smile on his face.

A few minutes later, the two stopping hugging. Gabriel picked up his teddy bear with one hand and held Bitty’s hand with the other. He then looked at Tower.

“Thank you…”

A small smile appeared on Gabriel’s face, which Bitty noticed, causing Bitty to grin.

“There’s your smile!”

Gabriel blushed lightly for a moment at his smile being noticed.

Bitty looked over at Tower for a second before looking back at Gabriel, feeling better now.

“So, I’m guessing this guy helped you?”

“Yeah, he did…”

Bitty looked back at Tower.

“Thanks for helping Gabe!”

He chuckled a bit. “Of course.” His eyes flicked between the two. “So, I’ve never done it myself, but I can’t imagine that sleeping in an alley would be very comfortable?” He gave the two a wry smile, only half joking.

Gabriel glanced off to the side.

“It’s not...”

“And we gotta take turns watching over each other...”

Gabriel cried as he hugged his teddy bear close, his fur a dark gray.

He soon noticed Tower, and even though he was a little nervous, he decided to go up to him.

“Um...e-excuse me?”

Tower rumbled and looked down, his expression softening a small bit as he crouched down to their height. Or, about as far down as he could get, anyways. “Hello there little one.”

Gabriel looked at Tower, then shook his head.

“We don’t usually go back to the same alleyway every night, and he’s likely looking for me, so he could be anywhere…”

Alleyway? He really hoped this kid wasn’t homeless, but if they were he would have to do something about it. “Well.. let’s keep looking. If he’s trying to find you then he shouldn’t be too far from here.” Hopefully.

Gabriel rubbed his eyes, then nodded a little.

“Ok…”

He then went back to walking down the street, looking around him.

Tower began to look again as well, following them down the street as he did.

About 10 minutes later, they could hear someone in the distance calling out. It was hard to make out what they were saying though.

Tower went in that direction, straining his ears a bit to try and make out the voice. He kept Gabriel in sight of course, didn’t want to lose him too.

Gabriel followed Tower, trying to listen too. Eventually, they got close enough to hear what the voice was saying, but not see who was talking.

“Gabriel!”

Gabriel gasped softly and started running.

Ah, the child recognized the voice, that was good. He picked up his pace a bit to keep close, just in case.

As they got closer, he called out.

“Bitty!”

A few feet away, Bitty ran out of an alleyway and looked around, his eyes soon falling on Gabriel. 

He stared for a second before starting to run over to Gabriel, tears spilling from his eyes.

He slowed to a stop for a moment as his eyes set on the small bomb. Ah. Honestly, he hadn’t been expecting this, but it did make some sort of sense. In any case they were both still children, and he would rather die than harm a child. He walked a bit closer, crouching down and giving Bitty a smile. “Hello there.”

Bitty hugged Gabriel tightly as Gabriel put down his teddy next to him to hug Bitty properly.

Bitty nuzzled the top of Gabriel’s head before slowly opening his eyes and acknowledging Tower.

He didn’t say anything though, since he was too focused on Gabriel at the moment. He then closed his eyes again and went back to nuzzling the top of Gabriel’s head.

He watched the two with a small smile on his face, and settled down to wait for them to notice him. He had a free day, no need to rush.

A few minutes later, Bitty spoke as he continued to gently nuzzle Gabriel’s fur, which was now white.

“You ok Gabe?”

Gabriel nodded a little, still buried in Bitty’s embrace.

“I-I’m ok. You ok?”

Bitty nodded a little.

“I’m ok…”

“Good…”

The two went silent for a moment before Gabriel spoke again.

“I-I was so scared…”

“…Me too…”

As he watched his mind drifted to his memory. His eyes got a bit distant for a moment before he refocused himself. Not the time to think about that, there were potentially homeless children to deal with.

“…I am glad I could help.” He rumbled softly, a small smile on his face.

A few minutes later, the two stopping hugging. Gabriel picked up his teddy bear with one hand and held Bitty’s hand with the other. He then looked at Tower.
