I just realized that haymitch is an alcoholic. AN ALCOHOLIC. not a morphling addict. though he probably could have ended up one.

who mentored Katniss? who laid down the groundwork for her eventual acts of rebellion? who planned the extraction in the 75th games around her? who fueled her fire in order to pull of a full-on political movement?

For an Everlark unpopular opinion I don’t actually take what Haymitch says in Mockingjay to Katniss about how Peeta would treat her much better if she were hijacked instead to be 100% true.

Now do I think Peeta wouldn’t run away like Katniss did immediately, yes. He also wouldn’t call her a mutt or be as reactionary as she was when she talked to Hijacked!Peeta during the wedding. He would stay around with a brave face much longer. However he would react just as badly to Katniss’s hatred internally which would cause problems later. Despite Peeta thinking Katniss doesn’t love him, I actually think he’s pretty aware that she really respects everything about him and she’s also shown to have a history of being really receptive to his affection, so for her to come back hating him he probably would be just as mournful of the loss of unconditional love even if he never recognized it. And he would bottle up his emotions and eventually things would escalate so there would be a bad day causing him to explode like he did in CF after the man was shot or withdraw for a bit like he did after the first book/during Quell training. And I’m not saying this as a condemnation of Peeta’s character, just like I don’t condemn Katniss for her behavior in MJ. The point is they’re both traumatized teenagers in a war and neither of them would react well to the person who is essentially their life hating them.

where was that post that pointed out how "meadow" was written as a proper noun only in the epilogue of mockingjay and how that could be what katniss and peeta named their first child? because i brushed it off the first time i read that post, but i got curious just now, and oh my god, it's really only ever capitalized in the epilogue!!! this and how the entire trilogy could be read as if it was katniss's memoir ... that capitalization was intentional! Meadow!!!

Don't get me wrong, I get that it's a movie, and they needed to show things in the prettiest way possible to get the audience's attention and keep it, but I think it's sad just how much use of tech we're shown in the Mockingjay movies.

I mean, this is a country where the people are supposed to be poor. The districts have nothing that doesn't belong to the capitol, and then after the bombings and the civil war, and society rebelling, there isn't supposed to be any electricity, let alone the fancy tech that we're shown at pretty much every scene. I think that the whole thing about having things just be "underwhelming" and plain old regular could have been made to feel more powerful.

It could have been used to show the reality of their war, and how the Capitol took everything from them since way before they even got into that war. They could have shown the differences in tech, how the Capitol was so advanced and how they had everything, while the districts barely had anything at all. Show the contrasts.

I feel like that's something Suzanne did well in the books because you can really feel Katniss's hunger and anxiety through the pages, and especially her disgust for anything that feels like way too much.
