I wake with your memory over me
I am seventeen years old. I was in the Hunger Games. Twice. I was captured. I'm supposed to be the Mockingjay.
Or at least that's what everyone has told me about the last year of memory I've lost. They've told me a lot and nothing. Prim, Gale, the town drunk, all these strangers from a grim District that isn't home.
The only one who seems to be giving me space is Peeta Mellark. The boy with the bread. My co-victor apparently. Among other things.
After her rescue from the Capitol, Katniss has lost a year. A very eventful year. And between the videos, and slow return of her memories, it seems that Peeta Mellark is the only person who knew what to do with her.
empty words
Words may be Peeta's thing but the Capitol was the next best when it came to using them to rattle Katniss to her core, especially when they kept writing dumb things about her and Peeta.
- 5 times Katniss read something ridiculous and the 1 time she didn't care
Complete
all of you, all of me intertwined
Panem taught their bodies to endure. The Games taught their bodies to be weapons. The war taught their bodies to be pieces.
In the calm that follows the war, they learn how to let their bodies be theirs. And like everything else, this leads them to each other.
special blanket
"He was missing Mama. I told him my special blanket was a good substi—substitute for her,” she stumbles over a word, remembering the same one her teacher used when she was out.
Haymitch lets out a loud laugh. "What, is it a blanket for kissing?"
Willow stops for a second. Papa Haymitch has a point, they do kiss a lot. "No. It's the best blanket for feeling better."
- With her Mama not around Willow has a new theory to share with everyone.
lose a song, love a bird
“Yes”, she grumbles defensively. She places the last blanket over me with a quick pat, then gently pushes me back down.“It helped. Just like resting will.”
Helped me in more ways than one. Nothing feels more Peeta Mellark than narrowly missing the songs of Katniss Everdeen.

I turn back, unimpressed. "Is flirting part of the routine too?"
By the grin on his face and the way he’s in her house every damn morning, I’d say it already is. He confidently slides his queen forward. "Checkmate."
I take a swig from my bottle. Flirting and chess. The routine now. Beats the hell out of kids dying.
Haymitch drinks. Katniss and Peeta grow back together. They all somehow end up playing chess along the way.
