I remember in my sociology class when we talked about crimes are defines by being policed and caught. We talked a lot about for the war on drugs how white suburbia could say afford and take coke for years and it wasnt a crime because there was no one watxhing. For a crime was to be surveilled and "caught". Not to mention theres no objectivity when being "caught" (its up to the surveillance state). And he talked about with us how black communities are disproportionately over police and surveilled and thus "caught". Deconstructing crime as a who the surveillance state decides to surveillance is really important even before you talk about the laws that state something is a crime.
