Isaac Powell, the star of Ivo van Howe’s 2020 Broadway revival of West Side Story, has joined the cast of Universal’s Dear Evan Hansen. The project will mark Powell’s feature film debut.

Powell will play high school jock Rhys in the feature adaptation of the six-time Tony winning Broadway musical. He joins a cast that includes Ben Platt, Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Amandla Stenberg, Danny Pino, Nik Dodani, Colton Ryan, DeMarius Copes and Gerald Caesar.

Universal’s “Dear Even Hansen” film adaptation is continuing to round out its cast, with singer-songwriter Liz Kate as the newest addition.

Kate will join a star-studded cast, including Amy Adams, Kaitlyn Dever and Amandla Stenberg. Ben Platt, who won a Tony for his performance on Broadway, is expected to reprise the lead role. It’s unknown who Kate will be playing in the movie.

Stephen Chbosky is on board to direct, while Steve Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical, is penning the script.

So I’ll just go ahead and say it, and I will NOT give any spoilers, because we are not supposed to.

But as you know, the secrets kept in Dear Evan Hansen are kept by Jared Kleinman throughout most of the play. Perhaps Jared wants to cling onto Evan the way Evan wants to cling onto Zoe. It’s almost like there’s a theme of outsiderness within the show! Smart writers.

What we learn is, if Evan Hansen is the biggest loser in school, Jared Kleinman is the second-biggest loser. But when all of that changes, Jared wants to hold onto whatever it is that he can get from Evan. Even if he doesn’t want to admit it, Jared enjoys having a “friend” in Evan. So no, I don’t think that he would be very public on TikTok about it.

Also, the show takes place in 2016. But now if you ever see the play, or go in for Jared, you know!
