Thankfully, I've found the names for them remarkably quickly for once. I am happy to introduce Marlowe [Asleep Eidolon You Xi] and Shelley [Asleep Eidolon Xi Nai] Frost.
Figured it's about time I shared a pic of my (relatively) recently acquired Elfdoll K. Currently she is on an unmodded male body but I will be attempting to sculpt a bust for her when I get the chance.
I just got the proper eyes for her last week, how does she look? I like the vulnerability, she is in a house full of villians after all.
At the risk of sounding like someone who stereotypes re: gender, I personally like that the vulnerable look makes her seem more feminine to me. Mainly it's because of my own impression and worries that the sculpt felt too masculine at first on the body, not because feminine characters have to be vulnerable, it's just a personal preference thing I have for this specific doll.
That and, well, the villains. :3c
(this is supposed to be a mini me, I'm working on her wig and stuff, I just need the yarn for it! but once I saw that face and that expression I knew she'd be perfect. I love tormenting my self inserts ngl, so it works for the level of Concern she'd have being around the likes of Shigadolly and Dabi-BJD and all.)
Den of Angels has a thread in their forum games section called "Dear Blank, Please Blank".
It's relatively inactive (as are many parts of the forum tbh), though there are a couple recent posts in this game thread from 2025 including one of mine.
I like the "letters" I came up with, so here they are:
Dear old dolls I missed,
You're invited to a party at my place. I'm sorry I didn't have the funds for you before you were discontinued, whether because of a different focus or the fact that I was a teenager with no money.
Please come visit, and maybe stay a while.
Sincerely,
Someone feeling nostalgic about old sculpts and styles in the hobby.
Dear dolls I own but am neglecting,
I apologize that winter absolutely stinks. I want to work on my projects but spraying MSC is a no-go right now so I can only do so much. I want to make you *you*, but I'm discouraged because the stuff I was excited for doesn't work with this weather.
And no, I'm too lazy to sew your outfits instead of whining about not being able to work on faceups.
With love,
Someone who misses the hype.
Dear anyone with experience in making burn scars for BJDs,
How frustrating is it and what am I in for in terms of effort versus durability? (scared)

Here are some examples of scarring with glue, I think the arm from the last row is the closest to burned skin.
Thing is when burned skin heals there aren't actually pieces of flesh anymore, it's just the scarred tissue. It highly depends on how "fresh" the scars/wounds are supposed to look like.
Plus point for glue is that it's removable with a bit of elbow grease and the usual face up removing techniques.
You can also use it to enhance tattoos or the like, i did that for some other dolls.
Like Alma:
all red is protected by glue. I really wish I did that for some other crazy paint jobs as well as it helps to protect the paint.
Thanks so much for the tips and examples! I definitely have a texture in mind and it's almost like, brush strokes/paper-y? At least that's how I kind of imagine Dabi's scars being textured like. Lemme grab a picture...
His scars kind of have a bit of a wrinkled look, so I'm thinking a layer or two of glue that I brush along for texture could work, but I'll be testing it on something like a plastic spoon sealed with MSC first to get it right.
Unfortunately, it is no longer MSC season, so I ended up in the meantime doing an experiment with watercolor pencil (that could just wash off, supposedly, but I found it tends to leave streaks even on the MSC layer) that turned out to be a good temporary look for the moment. I won't be able to seal him again until Spring so I hope it holds up!
But I am definitely excited to experiment more once it warms up again this coming year, and for now I think I'm going to focus on sewing the rest of his outfit to hopefully have him presentable as Dabi for future conventions (especially NYC Doll Con, if he can be ready in time!).
Both of your designs are super creative, and I think I follow you on bsky @seijitheclown ? Either way I defs want to be more active in the community so you will probably see more of me! 😉👍
My guy's a work in progress and this scribble faceup is just temporary for practice but I love him already- 🥺
I remember seeing character BJDs on sites like Instagram and Tumblr when I was new to the hobby and thinking, that is so amazing, I could NEVER do that! But now I have my very own Dabi doll and I want to let anyone know who is nervous about BJD crafting and customization, it CAN be done!! 🙂↕️👍✨
Dabi BJD is a DollZone Jake on a Resinsoul 45cm body, with Resinsoul 1/4 jointed hands. His eyes are from Dolly Planet, his wig from WSkyStudio on Etsy, and his outfit was sewn by me with help from various tutorial videos on YouTube including the leggings pattern drafting one by Lomi's Playground. The Jake head is yellowed NS from around 2015-2016, and the Resinsoul body is their normal from 2024!

A few days ago I received an Impldoll Idol 68 Female body. Perfect in every way for my Iplehouse Freezia… save for the neck length….
It was just a hair too long for my taste. I’ve had to modify a few of the crew’s necks because most are hybrids. So let’s begin our adventure for the evening.
The main thing about a modification like this is to go slowly and only remove a bit at a time. You can always take more off, but it’s harder than hell to put back.
I took a grey colored pencil and some tape and made a ring around the neck where I would like to take some height off. Since my cutting wheel is thicker I’m going to have to stay on the one side of the line so I don’t take off too much.
I did make note of the curve in front, but ultimately decided that I didn’t need it. If I had kept it I would have used a diamond file mandrel to gently carve that in.
For this I grab my Dremel Lite with a thin cutoff wheel. On the lowest speed I start going around the neck, making sure everything lines up. Double check that you have a good grip on everything and are purposeful with your movements. A dremel bit can get away easily and create unwanted marks in the resin.
As always when working with resin, wear a mask. I also keep wet towels next to me to control the amount of dust that tried to escape.
I love a good, clean cut.
For our next act, the neck needs to be curved down and smoothed. Again with my Dremel, I employ my nail sanding bands. These are made for sanding nails, but I find them perfect for doll modification as they come in different grits from #80 to #240. The 80 grit is harsh and that’s what you reach for when you want to remove a lot of resin NOW, but today I use #150 to start shaping the neck.
This is where you want to go epically slow and check the fit of your doll’s head often. Rotate the head around and check the range of motion and also look inside to see if the neck is making contact with the inside of the head, this way you can judge whether to skinny up the neck more or give a greater curve to the top.
After you are satisfied with the shape and fit, it’s time to do a finishing sand. I like to use a wet/dry #400 by hand because it leaves a satin smooth finish that typically matches most BJD finishes. Do small circular motions around the neck that way you don’t leave any sanding marks.
Now! Do your final fit check and suede the head if needed for extra grip.
There she is! I probably took about 6mm off in the end, but it was enough to make a difference. I’m so happy to have Enya whole again.
It’s truly amazing to see how far BJD engineering has come. The joints are beautifully made with posability that was just a dream in the early 2000s. I still remember when everyone lost their mind when jointed hands were first introduced and there were close to $200 a pair.
Decided to test whether the Himiko Toga nendoroid accessories would work on the nendoroid doll body since there is going to be an official nendoll Toga release. Unfortunately, while the neck piece is relatively stable, the back piece would collide with the head due to the higher back peg position.
I love the posability for the ob11 (not shown) bodies, but I really wish they wouldn't come apart so often, on the other hand nendoll bodies are VERY sturdy but their posing is very... lacking. :c If anyone knows how other bodies (Piccodo, YMY etc.) might compare in both departments, I'd love to read some reviews, as I'm almost tempted to look into nendoll bodies again, posing be damned, if they won't flop over all the time. But on the other hand I love the cute expressive poses my ob11 can make... it's a dilemma.
Trying Dollzone Shoyo on a b45-017 body. (Edit: This was released in 2017)
It's absolutely lovely. I thought it was so much smaller but turns out to be just as tall as the older body. I think it suits her head size better though. It's the tiny chest and shoulders I guess, not the height.
I like it so much. The posing is very different feeling. Kinda like the older body would slip right into a natural sit but was less easy to get to stay put in poses. The new body can achieve a natural sit but you have to intentionally work the joints to get her there. But she holds a pose shockingly well. I thought she'd be slippery like my Doll Chateau. But despite her shiny resin she grips good.
