One of my biggest gripes with the Hetalia fandom is the sheer number of antis in the community, because… why are you even in the Hetalia fandom in the first place?
All of the main characters have committed atrocities before. Germany and Japan committed severe breaches of human rights in concentration camps, Italy was openly fascist, England was involved in the slave trade, France once also tried to take over Europe, America’s bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused massive civilian casualties, China had an oppressive communist dictatorship, Russia had an oppressive communist dictatorship, etc. This is not even scraping the surface, by the way, of what these countries have done. If you enjoy this show where the characters would have done this sort of thing, why do you draw the like at incest ships? Or abusive relationships? It is absurd.
Take England, for example. If he is your favourite character, does that mean you support the slave trade, opium trade, oppression of the working class, etc.? No? Well, guess what else this can apply to — that’s right, shipping problematic ships. Just because I ship a 30 year old with a 16 year old does not automatically equate to I am a paedophile.
I don’t even ship incest or like rape fics. I just don’t give a fuck if the average Joe does. That’s what proshipping is — I don’t have to fetishise problematic ships to be proship.
Why are you in the Hetalia fandom if you are appalled by the fictional shipping of two characters who are not healthy for each other? Are you not also appalled by the rape of Japanese soldiers in China, or the torture of Algerians by France in the Algerian War?
My point is, if you can distinguish fictional Hetalia characters’ actions from real life war crimes and atrocities, then pro shippers definitely can separate fictional incest, rape, abuse, from real life crimes.
The hypocrisy is killing me :/
