Insane Playlist (aka. just EVERY song that is on any of my 14 writing playlists with no sorting as to which book/character/dynamic it's for)
The whole thing is at least 7 books long in my head but I'll only talk about the first one for now. The working title is "Thornes" and here's a playlist.
Premise
Told across three timelines (13 years ago, 1 year ago and X days ago) the book follows Alli, Mirabelle and Nora - the women of the family Thorne. Since the popular revolution a few decades ago the Thornes, or as some still call them The House of Roses, have become the last great family and they are willing to do anything to hold onto that power. When Nora's father and brother decide it is her turn to get married to further the family line and ambitions, she is forced to confront the fact that her happiness will always be secondary to her purpose as a member of the family.
In the days before Nora's wedding Alli's carefully held grip on herself and her emotions begins to slip. 13 years before Nora's wedding, Mirabelle was still alive.
Characters
Alcea "Alli" Thorne - P.o.V. of the "X Days ago" Timeline. The "first flower". Alli was raised to be Lucien's wife and right hand. She is to have his children and kill on his command. While she hasn't had any children, her efficiency as a bodyguard and assasin has made her feared. Her use of magic manifests as "the flicker", an ability to phase out of reality for seconds at a time. In the past she is an excitable but measured girl, in the present any feelings she might experience are hidden behind a serene smile. She is Lucien Thorne's attack dog. She is the scariest person you will ever meet. She loves Dane with all her heart.
Eleanora "Nora" Thorne - P.o.V. of the "1 year ago" timeline. The only living daughter of the family Thorne. Wants to be a soldier but then is told she has to marry and have children since it doesn't seem like Alli will have any at this point. An angry teenage lesbian. Her magic manifests as a shield.
Mirabelle Thorne - P.o.V. of the "13 years ago" timeline. Nora's older sister and Alli's dearest friend. Also loved Dane and was betrothed to him until she died in his arms 8 years ago. Was fascinated with magic and experimenting with it constantly, helping Alli, Nora and Lucien find and develop their skills. When they were both teens she was put in charge of teaching Alli how to be a member of the family and the two became fast friends. Her death might have been the moment everything went wrong, depending on who and when you ask.
Dane Bess - The son of a servant woman in the household, who was adopted as a ward when she died. Mirabelle's childhood friend and love. In the present he is head of the family guard, outranked only by Alli in her function as First Flower. He is also her only and closest friend.
Lucien Thorne - The Thorne heir. Darius' only and oldest son. Nora and Mirabelle's older brother. Alli's husband. A geniuenly terrible person.
Darius Thorne - Daddy Thorne. The Lord Thorne if this was still a feudal system (which it isn't but boy does he act like it). The one who threw the families' power behind the people's revolution and so made sure they stayed on top when every other great house was destroyed. His children are trophies and tools to him.
That's the wip. Please talk to me about it. Esp if you wanna know more about other books in the world 👉👈
its good to acknoweldge the hollowness of revenge but sometimes you really do just need a story about someone who gets hurt and then kills and kills and kills and kills their enemies. its cathartic, babey.
"there's nothing that can bring my loved one back, so there's no point in killing you" and "there's nothing that can bring my loved one back, so there's nothing that can save you" are two themes that can and should co-exist
"nothing will ever undo what you did to me, so killing you solves nothing" and "nothing will ever undo what you did to me, but at least i can make sure you won't do it to anyone else" are also themes that can and should co-exist

This may seem like an exaggeration, the idea that one can learn how to properly think like a criminal by learning how crime stories work. On a personal note, let me tell a story from the Leverage writer’s room.
Apollo Robbins (http://www.istealstuff.com/) runs a crew of professional thieves who consult for law enforcement. He was also our criminal consultant on Leverage. Every few weeks he would visit the writer’s room to advise on the scripts and keep us up to date about new cons and the latest in criminal technology.
One day during the third season he sat in with the writers while we broke a story. We posted the details of a real-life white collar criminal up on the room’s whiteboard, using him as the basis for our Mark. We looked at his weaknesses, how he moved his money, what his hobbies were. Once we were happy with that element of the story we added a Vault to the mix, one that used an interesting new alarm technology we’d researched. We then spent about an hour figuring out how to circumvent that alarm. We even sketched out a map of the imaginary building so we could keep track of our Crew’s movements during the Job.
“Well, I’m done here,” Apollo muttered. Noting our confusion, he pointed at the board and index cards cluttering the wall. “This is exactly how real Crews plan these things. This writer’s room is now a fully functioning criminal gang. You could be thieves.”
Of course writing television pays better than crime (usually), with far less chance of being arrested (usually), so we all managed to resist the temptation. But aside from the day a US Attorney asked us to change a plot because we’d created a scam that was a little too foolproof, or when a Homeland Security Agent admitted they were spooked by a security hole we’d exploited in our season finale, it was certainly one of the proudest moments I had on the show.

he was there during siege of the North. he infiltrated the spirit oasis. he has an uncle who studies spirits and the spirit world. he watched the sky go dark then the moon suddenly reappear like everyone else in the entire world did. and most importantly he watched zhao get eaten by a giant godzilla fish spirit.
Also, Iroh was there? He literally watched Sokka make out with the moon spirit. And you want to tell me that a romantic sap like him would not have immediately told Zuko about this romantic tragedy? Please, Zuko has known about this for ages, he just knows that this is not an acceptable situation in which to say “yeah, I know.”
In 2026, the chicest thing a gay actor can do is never explicitly come out as gay but also make it abundantly clear that he is. Coming out is too modern. Staying closeted is too old fashioned. But this method merges contemporary freedom with Old Hollywood glamour and allure, and it weeds out the dumbest people who truly don’t get it. I call it the Pascal Method.
You clearly don't go here or to queer history and signaling, or both, enough to have this conversation and I'm not going to explain it to you. You could have asked questions, you could have done even a modicum of research. You didn't and you made yourself look ignorant. Goodbye.

Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️
Everyone makes fun of the millennial overpriced burger restaurants but the worst part is that they got you hooked on some bullshit and promptly shut down because their polycule broke up or whatever. You’ll never get to eat the caramelized onion apple parmesan sex bomb burger again. And it was $23 and good.
i do love and respect the idea of the world at large being stunned at finding out how long ilya and shane have been together, but i truly think that under NO circumstances would shane ever choose to offer ANY personal details about himself or their relationship willingly.
which combined with ilya loving just making things up and saying them (as seen in the "yes, the rumors are true-" scene) offers the very funny idea that ilya actively tries to offer as much privacy as possible by just throwing out stories about them at random so there IS no central story for people to hound shane about.
assorted backstories a la "ilya just started talking and found out with everyone else where he was going with this":
they got snowed in at all stars one year (b-but wasn't that year in florida?) and decided there was nothing better to do
it started as a bit and neither is willing to give up first
they paired off to combine forces like nato
they paired off to limit how many kids they could have in the future to make sure hockey stayed fair
ilya lost a bet six years ago
shane lost a bet three years ago
ilya got tired of remembering phone numbers for his hookups and shane's is easy
ilya got tired of having to look things up in english and french when talking to other people and decide to marry someone who speaks two languages to save time
shane is gifted enough (wink wink wink) that other people are cowards and only ilya was brave enough to rise to the challenge (this one gets him in trouble on the phone later but it also gets him laid that night at home and also confuses the online speculation about who tops and bottoms, so net positive tbh)
yuna hollander is the best manager in the business and a political marriage was the best way to secure her services longterm
with the end result that all shane has to do is shrug and "my husband has already told our story a thousand times by this point. no point in repeating it and boring people." in interviews to get out of people trying to dig into things he doesn't want to tell them.
you know all things considered im glad with the new tomodachi life nintendo finally realized that censorship in a singleplayer video game is kinda sorta absolutely useless and they just let you do pretty much anything. miis can say fuck now and talk about penis and the world continues to turn
