For Black trans people, they often have insurance initially deny covering routine preventative care for body parts that not “consistent” with the gender identity, not just transition-related care (hormones and surgeries). So they will deny covering a transgender man getting a pelvic exam, or a transgender woman getting a prostate exam because their identities are “incongruent” with the body parts. But I’m just a different kind of man. Thirty percent of trans people reported delaying seeking medical care because of past negative experiences with a healthcare provider, according to the US Trans Survey. Fifty percent end up having to teach their doctors how to medically treat them.

A year of living with our faces covered and masked has taught us that society can still function even when we can't see each other's faces, and that it doesn't erase our identity, it doesn't significantly threaten security.
We're still people, humans, our eyes meet, we connect with our voices, despite the distance we maintain from each other.
With this realization now clear, it's surprising that the fixation on burqa and niqab bans still isn't going away. Switzerland recently had a vote on the matter, and now Sri Lanka seems to be headed down the same path of prejudice. It seems to be a strange kind of political fixation, an obsession. It's also now clear that these bans are inspired by nothing more than prejudice.
Sending my love and regards to all the niqabi sisters out there. You don't deserve to be subjected to these prejudices just because of your choice of clothing. Stay strong.

i think theres a serious misunderstanding of how bail works on here. if youre released on bail, it doesnt mean your charges are cleared, it means you will not be in prison leading up to your trial (often with other requirements ie. staying within the state, not contacting victim’s families, etc for your release to be allowed).
bail funds are to release people from prison prior to their trials, but they will still be charged/having trials. the charges are not dropped by bail being paid.
a judge ‘granting a release’ is not the person being actually Released from prison, its granting the conditions of the release (ie bail cost). it does not mean that they are out of prison (unless the bail is paid), and again does not mean charges are dropped.

Here’s a HUGE LIST of black trans groups and organization that you can donate to! There’s also a split form toward the bottom of the page that lets you split donations between numerous organizations!!!
Just a few of the groups/orgs you can help out:
Heaux History Project — a documentary series and archival project exploring Black and Brown erotic labor history and the fight for sex workers’ rights.
Dem Bois — a national organization with the mission to provide charitable economical aid for female to male, FTM, trans-masculine identified person(s) of color ages twenty-one years old and older for them to obtain chest reconstruction surgery, and or genital reassignment surgery in order to help them on their journey to live a more fulfilled physical, mental, and self-authentic life.
Black LGBTQIA Migrant Project — builds and centers the power of Black LGBTQIA+ migrants through community-building, political education, direct services, and organizing across borders. BLMP is providing cash assistance to Black LGBTQ+ migrants and first generation people dealing with the impact of COVID-19.
Okra Project/Tony McDade and Nina Pop Mental Health Fund — provides Black Trans people with quality mental health & therapy. Also addresses food security in Black trans communities.
Give your money to Black transgender folks now more than ever, especially women. Donate to their posts, support organizations dedicated to their protection. Advocate with your cash for them. I’m deadass, and I’m not arguing on this post.
I posted this link to a Twitter thread where trans folx are posting their Paypal, Venmo, and CashApp info for donations!
