“Really quite a marvel isn’t it?” The priest’s voice was gentle, even if it broke the silent peace of Skyhold’s garden. The rest of the ‘Chantry people’, the Mothers and Sisters, had already wandered off now that it was late afternoon doing… whatever it was that they did, leaving the Inquisitor alone for some time before Renaud found his way over. “The whole mountain is filled with snow and bare rock, and yet here within the fortress walls, we have grass, trees, and flowers…”
The Lay-Brother gestured a little to the garden spread out before them as he sat beside Alaedra on the stone garden bench. Resting his hands on his knees, bright blue eyes glanced over to her, a gentle, though not-quite-sympathetic smile on his lips. “But you look… lost in thought. Something on your mind?”
Perhaps it was simply instinct for him, to seek out those who looked troubled, to offer aid. Or perhaps he was just nosy. Either way, Renaud looked sincere in any case.

|| Alaedra was surprised at his approach. Most of the Faithful seemed loath to approach, and indeed with the exception of Mother Giselle, they seemed almost frightened of her. Renaud’s presence was unexpected yet.... not necessarily unwanted.
She tried to return his smile, or at least, half of a smile. Bundled in her cloak and her furs, she moved to the edge of the bench to give him a bit more room. She followed his gaze out to the garden, the trees rustling in the wind. He was right, it was a marvel to behold.
“You are kind to ask, Brother Trevelyan, thank you,” She paused. She was reluctant to share her thoughts, lest she be perceived weak. Yet Alaedra doubted the lay-brother would use anything she said against her. Perhaps this once she would allow it.
“Did you know most here consider me to be some sort of... godless woman? ”
