Dealing with Sponsorship as a New Artist

When trying to secure a sponsorship you have to think about a lot of things. First you have to think about the business or company that your wanting to sponsor you and how you can help them, because you already know how you think you can help them. They want to know how many people you can draw in per show,event, interview anywhere they will been seen. They wanna know if they put their logo somewhere on your van, tour bus or whatever you may have, you will be seen by certain amount of people that will have interested in their products and/or services.  As a new artist most of the time you will need to provide a demographic analysis of how many fans you have now and whats your potential audience will look like, for starters. 

Now if you are really new then I suggest starting locally and working your way up from their. Get a few small business deals under your belt and get a feel for what works for you before going for the big dogs!  As a new new artist my other suggestion would be not to worrying about sponsorships until you have a decent following of fans, not just on facebook or twitter in other words social Networks (unless you know for a fact that all of them will be going to an event you posted). I am talking about counting how big your crowd is on an off night and work with that. You do not want to count on a night when everything is just happening for you and everythings going perfect, if that's even possible, because life doesn’t happen that way. Take into consideration what you know you can bring until that number goes up. Thats when you, as an artist should start considering sponsorships, if one hasn't fell on your lap by then.

The best and worse part about marketing yourself or your brand is coming up with new  and innovating ways to market. You want to stand out, you want to be taken seriously and you want to do what you love to do. Sometimes you have to take a step back or even sideways to get where you need to be. It might seem as though it is taking forever but once you get there you will have so much more gratitude and appreciation for what you love to do!
