Since you’re analyzing animatics, I want to know your opinion on “the fruits” and the dynamic between david and kim to me theyre just so augh
Sorry, took me ages to answer again
Oooooh, "the fruits", fun fact: I showed a friend of mine the first poll where I used the image of Kim getting shot from that animatic and she started rooting for her because she liked the picture so much
Something to note first about this animatic is, I think with a lot of certainty, that it very firmly positions Kim in the role of protagonist
This seems like her perspective, David does not come in as a valiant figure seeking to redeem someone misguided, he's someone masked coming out of the bushes and shoots her
Which does bring us to his and Kim's introductions here
David as stated steps out of what I believe to be a willow tree, in full amour, carrying a weapon, wearing a mask and even still having the top of his face covered by leafs, he's shaded, emerging newly into the scene
Kim in complete contrast is glowing, sun in her back, she's fully shown, in the middle of the frame, everything, the trees, the rock, even the sun is framing her, she's absolutely the focal point
We're seeing the start of Kim and David's relationship, how David was as good as a stranger, someone uninvolved stepping into Kim's world, as well as the immediate impression he made, once again it's armour and weaponry that's immediatly visible, a bit of the mask that shows his alignment with the temple gods
They're now across from each other, face to face, but in comparison to Kim who's white hair and dress very much sticks based on brightness yet still does harmonize with the background with it's hints of green and yellow, like the trees, like the sky, David's colors are less bright but his cape drapes him in red, opposite and such, an intrusion on the green
Another notable thing is that as the animatic goes on Kim becomes increasingly more "tangible" so to speak, she's never hidden or in the background as David is, but
It goes from glowing ethereal figure to figure no longer glowing to a hint of face but still hidden under her veil to having her face exposed yet with glowing eyes to a normal face to her dressed fully visible with no veil at all to create any kind of sheen or seperation, also obviously dressed in a color much darker than what she herself chose and masked, as well as that she also just looks progressively less happy
I really like her veil, she rejected the mask and chose to wear a shiny yet transparent piece of fabric, to not be hidden yet as adorned and seperated as you wish to be methinks, y'know
Anyway, there are two more motives I'd be amiss not to mention
Kim throughout the animatic has a light, sometimes the literal sun, sometimes something akin to it, behind her
For one Kim, specifically her freedom, seems to have an association with light and glowing in this animatic so the light going from shining on her to being eclipsed when she's shot to seemingly fizzling out makes sense, but the sun is obviously also associated with David, hell, he's wearing it on his chest
I suppose there is something to be said about David only wearing the sun, in grey at that, where it shines on Kim and the biggest action he took actively causing an eclipse, one may also talk about substitutions and choices of how two people handle the same concept for themselves
At the same time her consistently having the sun right behind her could also hint that David had her inescapebly in his aim, though still shocking that he suceeded, an eclipse is rare after all
In the last frames the warm glowing yellow has been replaced with it's opposite, purple, a purple upon which David perfectly matches, though it's notable that he's still there, he is by now still a set part of the enviornment Kim has been thrown into which she herself now hugely contrasts, slight reversal of the first meeting, but he's still there, he didn't intrude and leave, his form is defined and even his face visible, admittedly without pupils
But in the very last frame Kim's eyes still glow that yellow color and even with her flowers removed a petal that glows all the same falls down from her, perhaps it shows the petals to be a part she carries within, perhaps it's the last one now falling down
It does bring me to the second motive, the flowers
Throughout this whole animatic Kim has gotten flowers absolutely everywhere, someone with hayfever hates to see her coming
While she's frollicking, while she's in court, notably she spreads no flowers when she is shot so I do not believe that they are simply randomly falling, but their spread is an expression of her freedom and personality, and as you can see in the first of the purple frames she is still surrounded by flowers, just more subtly
On a side note, look at the mark on her dress as she stands there, they took her to court fully shot, damn, at least the arrow wasn't lodged in
Yeah, "the fruits", beautiful and a good show of the start Kim and David had in meeting each other
I hope that made for a good response and also feel free to add anything :]
