Fav is Hades > Pyre >> Transistor = Bastion. I enjoy all of them, and go most insane for Hades and Pyre! Hades will generally be the most present here if only for the huge difference in fanbase size between it and the others ( :( ).

Chapter 42: Cousin of Mine

They were all dismissed from the Temple, with a promise that Clymene would send word to them once the blessing was ready. “We will descend into the earth and scry for the best path to Persephone. It will likely take some time, but we will find you your way,” Clymene told Zagreus, as she pressed the veil of Nyx into his hands. From across the hall, Apollo waited for her by the door to the adyton, the inner chamber, with an impatient expression. Zagreus had nodded, only half-listening. He was looking for Callisto. In the commotion, she had slipped away, and he caught sight of her now at the front of the departing crowd. He ran out after her.

Hades 2 new ending chatter, cont. 4 [HEAVY SPOILERS]

Ough this might have to be the last of it for now, it's way past my bedtime and I have work tomorrow. But I did want to add that I enjoyed these other changes in the final House scene.

First, Achilles!!

Nothing to say here except yay yippee!! The screenshot also flows nicely into...

Secondly, I really like that Hecate is now talking to Persephone instead of Hades. Even in the first game it felt like she could've used some more TLC from the writing team, but the second felt pretty bad. She was 2 for 2 on not getting to raise her kids and with the old ending her inclusion in the story kinda felt like an afterthought. This change helps her be more front and center (literally!)...and I mean, Hecate was her handmaiden lol! It just makes more sense they'd be talking instead of Hecate and Hades haha.

I said in one of the previous posts that I almost wouldn't have minded if it was just Mel, Zag, and Chronos that remembered the alt timeline, but seeing Persephone here definitely changes my mind. She really needed that too.

The change wrt Hecate also allows Hades more a more fitting exchange too, now talking to his father:

Hades also needed something from Chronos, probably much more so than Persephone did. I like that they did this and it helps reinforce the sense that they're trying to figure out how to proceed, that Chronos is being required to address the shattered bond with his sons.

One last thing: my hot take from the previous ending was that, while it was sad to me that Mel left the House, it did kind of make sense to me. Depending on where you live, a lot of kids move out and eventually live separate lives from their family; as a player who spent so much time in the House of Hades and wanted everyone to live together happily it was very sad, but there was a reality to it that I could respect. I could also see what they were going for - Mel's story being that she never really knew her blood family and her growth included learning to value the Crossroads and her "real" family more; it also inverse-paralleled with Zagreus having such a fractured relationship with the House and its residents and learning how to repair it instead of successfully running away. With that said, I feel like there's been some subtle changes to the dialogue that help it feel more satisfying, positive, and less like a thing to grieve, and I appreciate that!

Another change I really appreciate - for context, here's a screenshot from the previous exchange with Zagreus in the house, before Mel and co. depart:

I really, really disliked this line. "Hate" is a strong word but was pretty close for how I felt about it. It was so passive-aggressive, about such a monumental problem, from a character who was always so emotionally intelligent (sassy or not), to a character who struggles with thinking for herself and not bending to others' devices. It was bizarrely tone-deaf for a studio that's usually very cognizant of all the ways a line of dialogue can be approached.

Compare then to the new dialogue:

There he is!! There's the Zagreus I know and love!! What a great overhaul to that whole exchange. Checking through my screenshots from September I don't think I have the entirety of the old to compare to, but I'm pretty sure it's a near-total rewrite and the changes it makes are so nice. Zag is much more thoughtful again and you really feel the shared bond between them. From a narrative standpoint - he has an influence in Mel's decision still which I like, but this time he never went against her so badly, and that then allowed her to grow as a character and take charge of her story in a way that feels authentic and gives her the agency she needed. He had an influence, but this time it was her idea and her decision. All-in-all it also feels much warmer and more affectionate instead of being weirdly uncertain, even borderline hostile. We love to see it!
