She was being selfish right now– She should let him go. But instead, here she was, practically clinging to him like a shirt in the Mon Cala humidity. She was being stupid; he was okay, wasn’t he? He was back, he was safe. But he almost wasn’t, a dark voice in her head says, a voice she has to try very hard to shut down.
But it’s true. He was captured by the Order, after all. They tortured him, tormented him. He almost didn’t make it back.
But he did.
She had to keep telling herself that– He was back, he was safe, he was okay. She didn’t need to hang on him like this– He wasn’t going anywhere, not yet.
“Sorry– Go. I won’t keep you.” It took a Herculean effort, but finally Ushizi disentangled herself from her fellow pilot– “Go.”
As Ushizi untangled herself, Poe couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. Did he sound harsh when he had said it? He'd been joking, really. Just trying to lighten the tension, the mood, but apparently Zi's mood hadn't really wanted to be lightened. "Zi-- Zi- relax, I was- I wasn't serious." Well, he was. He had a meeting to get to, but that was still ten or so minutes away. He had time. "Zi, stay here. C'mon-" he pulled her against him, ignoring how overheated he was getting. He didn't care. He just wanted her close. Just wanted to listen to her heart beat. When he was captured, tortured by the First Order, she was all he could think of. If he'd see her again, if she'd be okay, what would happen if he- He didn't though. He was there. So he closed his eyes and tried to remember that. Tried to stay in the moment. And he held on tighter.
