A (re)Introduction in Progress

Welcome back. I know I've been away for a while, and I'm definitely in the middle of a revamp of this space, but for those of you finding me for the first time as I start accumulating posts and reblogs, here's a quick reintroduction to me-

Okay how the hell do people write introductions again?

Welcome to the revamp of the Blackwood Archives, where magic form becomes magic function(1).

My name is Zantedeschia, but Zan works as a shorthand. I am a young adult living in a city bigger than I’d particularly like and someone who loves researching and documenting the research(2). This space, the Archives, will be for things I find either on this website or things I write about the research rabbit holes I find myself going down, be they about the magic of the world, the stories of complete strangers, or even simple things I find lovely in other facets of life. This is gonna be a chaotic space showcasing the kinds of things that make up my mental library and sharing my experiences and the madness that comes with it with the world. Please, stick around. You might stumble into an unexpected surprise with what you find.

Below will soon be a list of projects I'm currently writing up for this blog. This space will be updated as posts (and collections of posts) get written out so check back every once in a while to see if anything new's popped up.

And as always, thank you for your time in the Archives.

Essential oils toxic to cats

Cats are particularly sensitive to essential oils, and even small amounts can be toxic to them.

Here is a list of essential oils that are generally considered toxic to cats:

Remember, this list is not exhaustive, and there may be other essential oils that could be harmful to cats. It's crucial to keep these oils and any other potentially toxic substances out of reach of your feline companions.

If you suspect your cat has been exposed to an essential oil or is displaying any unusual symptoms, it's important to contact a veterinarian immediately.

oh hey lmao since we're at the starting stages of a trans genocide in the US, I wanna remind everyone that they will try to erase this. They will try to rewrite history so that this never happened, or everyone was on our side in the beginning, or whatever makes them look better. They're already trying to re-write history and erase us from the start, with bills that make it illegal to teach queerness in classrooms. We cannot let this happen. We cannot let them erase our history.

Yeah, I saw that. They mention “black magic” in another post. (I was around during the 90s. I know all the signs of 90s era witchcraft.)

They seem to have made their way here from Tiktok with a recent influx of beginner posts. They haven’t reblogged anyone or anything else, so I doubt they’re paying much attention to reading the tags and taking part in witchblr conversations.

Sometimes it’s fun to watch to see how long folks like this last. Witchblr does not work like other sites.

Normally, I just reblog this kind of thing with a note like, “not only do I read/write fanfic, I have an over-20 child who does the same.” But.

Who da hell do you think manages the Archive of Our Own? Who created it; who does the coding; who WENT TO CONGRESS three times to argue for our constitutionally-protected right to show Kirk boinking Spock?

Hint: it wasn’t people under 20.

Who do you think makes the content on AO3? Sure, lots of teens… but lots and lots and LOTS of not-teens. The OTW′s been around for almost 10 years - the people who put up the first content sure as hell weren’t 10 and under at the time. (Or is there the assumption that the teenagers of 10 years ago wandered away and are no longer participating in fic fandom?)

The more I think about it, the less I understand this kind of question. Do teenagers actually believe the people who manage fic archives like AO3 and fanfiction.net are not involved in fic fandom? That they do coding and deal with complaints and register the domain and all that, but don’t read any of the fic?

This notion that once you hit arbitrary age (whether it’s 20, 30, 40, 50) you suddenly forget about every single passion and interest you had prior to your birthday and become obsessed with tracking your pension or commenting on bus timetables or whatever is wild to me.

Young folk of fandom, we are just as passionate as you, we’ve just been around a lot longer.

Hey folks, friendly reminder that:

The whole idea that the Earth is about to enter its "next evolutionary level" is rooted in Victorian-age eugenics.

The idea that people who accept New Age beliefs are having their DNA "upgraded" is fundamentally eugenicist.

The idea that starseeds are traveling to Earth to spread spiritual truth is a narrative inspired by the idea of white man's burden and the belief that sending missionaries to convert Indigenous people to Christianity is a good thing. (It's not; it's racist and genocidal.)

The idea that those who reject New Age beliefs will be "purged" is fundamentally a belief that genocide is a good thing.

New Agers are either ignorant or dishonest when they claim that ancient religions and holy texts support their beliefs. The information they cite is either fabricated, distorted, or taken out of context.

The ancient astronaut hypothesis is inherently racist, because its purpose is denying that ancient POC could have built anything on their own.

The New Age/starseed narrative is inherently antisemitic and has a large overlap with conspiracy theories QAnon believes in, including adrenochrome harvesting (a modern form of blood libel).

An Introduction to the Archives

Greetings, travelers. Use this post as a minor divulgence into who I am, and what this Archive is supposed to mean.

You may call me Zan, as a shortened variant on Zantedeschia, my favorite kinds of flower. I am effectively the head archivist here in the Blackwood Archives by default, but perhaps that is alright for the time being.

This Archive was brought into being by a wonderful friend of mine whose name matches the stars, who suggested I turn the physical copies of the last year plus of what I've compiled as a grimoire into a digital environment where I can also meet and befriend others out there who do similar motions to my own.

I welcome you to my corner of this universe, and hope you enjoy the long journey that awaits. We're going to have fun on this adventure, so I hope you stick along for this ride.
