Shane walking into the locker room after a loss expecting anger and shouting and equipment being thrown, fully prepared to take the brunt of the fault from the coaching staff and a few of his teammates like he always did in Montreal. With his head down, he waits for the explosion, but when it doesn’t come he looks up to see his fellow Centaurs laughing together and ribbing on each other over the mistakes they made that night. There is no animosity or blame. The air in the room is light, not the gloomy atmosphere he’d grown accustomed to after being defeated.

Ilya sees him standing there with the most adorably confused look on his face and walks over. He places both hands on his cheeks and smiles before kissing him, right there in front of everyone. The room erupts in hoots and hollers, Bood and Hayes yelling, “get a room!”

When they finally separate, Ilya gently rubs a thumb over Shane’s freckles. And with the most understanding expression, reassures Shane with a, “we are not the fucking Metros.”

The room gets loud again, Dykstra shouting, “fucking right! We’re the motherfucking Ottawa Centaurs!”

Shane finally cracks a smile. Throwing off his gloves he still had, he grabs his husband and literally dips Ilya right there, kissing him through their laughter and the riotous applause from their team.

Yeah, they definitely weren’t the fucking Metros. They were the motherfucking Ottawa Centaurs.

ever since Jacob said that the show is formatted through memories I can’t help but notice that structure even more significantly. The hockey games are a blur, we don’t see them, because in Hollanov’s memory, the only thing that stands out is each other. It’s exactly how memory works, especially when you love someone- the reality of it blurs over time, but they remain vivid. You fixate on certain details, touches, kisses. (One of my favourite scenes in the whole show is Shane talking to Rose and remembering his encounters with Ilya)

I honestly think this conscious decision throughout is what makes the time jumps completely seamless, because we’re still grounded in the emotional reality of these memories.

It’s what I personally like to call ‘trim the fat’ writing, which so many shows fail to do, with bloated scripts and way too much exposition and audience handholding. JT said ‘fuck that’ and I respect it heavy

hollanov wherein shane can understand russian better than he can speak. he has a few years under his belt studying it but just can't really speak as fluently as he wants to, he can hold simple conversations and longer ones just slower but still not as fluent as he likes. BUT he is better at listening and understanding it.

so when ilya wants to speak russian, he just does because shane understands him. he just responds in english. there are times shane encounters new words and ilya will translate it for him but for the most part, shane can understand ilya when he's speaking russian.

centaus locker room after practice and ilya's rattling out russian and shane answers in english. and theyre talking like that for a few minutes. ilya talking in russian. shane talking in english. the other centaurs cannot even guess the subject of their conversation because shane also peppers his answers with some russian words

trinity santos is a study in fandom misogyny because they gave her all the characteristics fandoms usually salivate for in men, being gruff, quippy and misunderstood with a tragic backstory but a heart of gold beneath it all. they put all this into her AND let her be a lesbian. she's everything you could ever want in a character but she's not a man so half the fandom either hates her or constantly mischaracterizes her as petty, callous and aggressive while doing mental gymnastics to baby the male characters around her
