This is a pretty specific offer, but would anyone be willing to trade the Iris Oracle deck and guidebook for my Wild Unknown deck and guidebook? I have the box too. They’re lightly used and excellent condition. I love them but I have three tarot decks and it’s making it harder to learn them. Reasons why my altar is so important to me;

🔮 It’s the one thing I have complete control over in my life, I can change it, add things, take things away, destroy it and build it back up again- I can do whatever the hell I want with my altar and no one can say anything.

🔮 It’s sacred, I come here when I’m stressed or upset, I come here when I’m happy or sleepy, I come to my altar when I need advice or I want to draw and write. I can come here whenever I want and release all my negativity. It makes me happy knowing I have something that’s mine, I love waking up in the morning and thinking damn that’s all mine. I made that, I created this space for me to go and do witchcraft or divination.

🔮 It radiates positivity, all those crystals and incense aren’t just there to look good (although lets be honest they do) they give off strength, positivity, creativity, happiness and they help with everything in my life.

🔮I lost control of everything in my life and this corner of magical tools is my way of dealing with that. I love coming home and having to rearrange my entire altar because I picked up something that I wanted to add to it, I love changing it all around for events and seasons. I love having altar themes and colour coordinating everything.

No you don’t need to have a big altar or loads of witchy things and tools to be a witch - you do you, your altar needs to be special to you, no one else. If it makes you happy, that’s all you need.

"Cultural Appropriation"

Edit: This post/blog was in response to others that I’ve seen calling the use of another culture’s commonly used natural resources in witchcraft “cultural appropriation”. Don’t like it? That’s fine. But don’t go telling me I’m wrong based on your opinion and need to change or delete what I’ve expressed. Freedom of expression and opinion. Comment, yes. Tell me what my opinion should be, hell no. Stay in your lane.

The God and Goddess/Deities/Earth/Universe/Etc did not create all of these natural things and then go; “Okay.. You guys get these, you over there on this area only get to use these and you people here only use those there”. Sage, dirt, flowers, herbs etc are not ethnic\a person’s area of origin specific. Just be sure to use everything with respect and appreciation. Use only what you need and always try to give something back.

Cultural appropriation is incorrectly applied WAY too often in this community through nothing but the sole intent of gatekeeping. There’s a very distinct difference between adopting closed cultural & religious practices that you do not have the ethnic right to and simply using resources that have significance in other cultures. The Earth provides resources that are accessible to all who inhabit it, and you have absolutely no business claiming any individual part of it as your own based off it’s origin.

Forgive me if I'm just unaware of the current discourse, but I think it's less about resources and more about words and concepts. For example, you can burn sage to cleanse your home, but that doesn't mean you're smudging. Smudging is a very involved very sacred Native American ritual, and if you said what you're doing is smudging, it would be inaccurate and disrespectful.

No one person owns these resources more than any other person (in the spiritual grand scheme anyway), but we can all respect each other while we share them. Often that respect involves taking into account the historical and social context of everything. Our white ancestors squashed out native cultures and forced their children to assimilate and now we're using their customs as a hash tag? Not super cool.

So yes, share the Earth, but for goodness sake be nice while you're doing it.

Witchy Birthdays

I’ve been seeing this go around a bit and have talked about it a little before, and figured I’d make a more formal post about some things you can do to make your birthday more magical. Feel free to add more! 

Do an annual tarot spread for the year to come

Come up with a resolution for how you would like to grow, cast a spell to help out

Make a lot of “new age” puns

Look up what the planets are going to be moving into, especially your ruling planet. How does it compare to the year you were born?

Find out your birth chart, if you don’t know it.

Look up some kitchen witchy recipes to serve at a birthday party

Ask your friends for donations to a nonprofit instead of gifts. It can be something specifically for a witchy cause like the environment, or just a cause you really care about.

You could even make the donation in the name of your patron deity, if you have one.

Talk with spirits that have the same birthday as you! Give them something nice for an offering for their own birthday gift.

REALLY WISH ON THOSE BIRTHDAY CANDLES

Draw a sigil in the icing of the cake. Stick the candles into it in decorative says. The color of the candles can even correspond.

Selenite is a high vibrational stone of transformation. It can be used to activate dormant abilities and remove energetic blocks.

“Don’t work with death, because then you invite it into your house.”

Death is already in my house. Death is everywhere. Death is what decays the plant matter that feeds my garden. Death is what feeds the herbs I use in my spells, for each grows from what died before it.

Death is what feeds my family - death of plants, the death of animals. I would not disrespect the spirits of that which feeds us by ignoring their sacrifice. 

Death is the veil between my ancestors and myself, keeping them at rest and then acting as the gate for them to step into their next life.

When I do hospice work and sit with someone who is accepting their approaching death, I don’t tell them death is something to fear or avoid. I tell them death is the friend that walked beside them, every step of their life, maintaining the balance of the world, and waiting for them with open arms, to escort them to rebirth. 

“Don’t work with death!” 

I would not ignore life’s partner, not for arrogance or fear or ignorance. When I go to my own, I want to greet death with respect, acceptance, and gratitude.
