non suselle ship communities on reddit keep on being like "fuck toby fox he killed my ship its so over" (often with an added jab of "it was more interesting than suselle") and/or "here's why there's still hope" and--respectfully, and as a dedicated krusie and krusielle believer--you're a bunch of goddamned cowards. What, you think that the creators didn't know about all the deliberate chemistry with kris and susie that was in there? you think they don't know about the rich and confusing history between kris and noelle they keep whacking you with? all that shit is real and you're correct for picking up on it. "so you're saying theres hope" no I'm saying sometimes a story is fucking Sad and about the lost potential of something that never was allowed to happen. Because some characters rushed into something or are allergic to directly communicating feelings or both. your ship is not "killed" or disrespected. the arcs of these characters still revolve around great chemistry, but as negative space; things that Could Have happened but almost definitely will not. This is still beautiful, this is still about all the things you love about your ship. It's just supposed to be Sad. and that is Fine

Put another way: no narrative of any good story gives a damn about your ship. characters will have dynamics and arcs and sometimes those arcs will be about culminating some kind of potential but also might instead be about what Could have been but was never allowed to. this, too, whips ass if you allow yourself to enjoy sad and tragic things

something abt the way asgore loses his position in the Family and turns that energy towards nurturing his flowers. as a result he becomes as a father to the six color flowers, until the dark fountain grants them the approximate personhood to actually interact with him as children would, upon which point he becomes emotionally neglectful to them.

Im gonna be so honest and say the take ive had for a year here. Kris and Susies dynamic is 100% more impactful if it ISN’T romantic

#deltarune #deltarune spoilers #as an aroace i will say i second this #i use terms like krusie and read fics of them as a pairing for simplicity’s sake #but that’s my fuckin qpr otp right there #the whole ‘we have something weird and different and it’s ours and i wouldn’t trade it for anything’ come on #and honestly? i cant imagine anything more heartbreaking than your qpr partner deciding (without discussion) to pursue conventional romance #expressing affection in unconventional ways is already so vulnerable #the hit to your self worth would be HUGE like why was what we had not enough #esp bc susie and kris being weird together is their thing. that’s what they are.#UGHHHHH #reading them as platonic also works here bc there are many such cases in my life where i have helped my friends get together #perhaps to my own detriment bc then they just go be lovey dovey together and i’m now secondary to that #alloromantic hegemony is a scourge on society let other kinds of love be valued just as highly please #rooting for krusielle where kris doesnt need to be kissed or express affection the way suselle does #but is still valued just the same as part of the partnership and shown the love they deserve

I've been getting a lot of chapter 5 critique in my reblogs and I wanna rumble for a bit bc this stuff is kinda all over my notifications page and I think people had a hell of a weird expectations from this chapter.

We were never promised an "Asgore chapter", and, frankly speaking, this isn't something Deltarune even does. No one calls the third one "Toriel chapter", it's just a chapter with a dark fountain in Toriels House, the same way this one is placed in Asgore's shop. Even the larger bits about the Dreemurr family we got in ch3 were what? Two scenes by the end of it? Frankly speaking, Asgore got the biggest amount of screen time and on screen development than any other lightner in his narrative position did (except Susie, since she is a main character).

Toriel slept through her entire trip to the dark world, Undyne was there for 10 frames and even Noelle, who got a bigger presence was mainly developed metatextually (either through snowgrave or the player having to make a mental effort and personally connecting the dots between her mother and the Queen / Noelle having a missing sister and her strange behavior in certain scenes.) Asgore, on the other hand, got a full arc that was thematically supported by the entire dark world we were in. The way his relationship with Flowery and "human" souls develops literally shows us the way his bond with his family rotted away in real life.

People being upset at Flowery taking screen time is especially weird to me since it's litterally the formula the game's been following since ep 1 - We always have a silly boss character that gets in our way all the time, how come this one is suddenly bad and out of place? He even has the audacity to be narratively connected to Asgore's arc so it's not like he is some rando that walked in and does nothing for the script or story progression

#deltarune #deltarune spoilers #i knew as i was playing it that people wouldn’t be satisfied with it but i thought it was really good #asgore’s plot development felt good like this isn’t undertale he doesn’t need to be the final boss he’s a side character here #and that is OKAY and IMPORTANT #he is a vehicle for our main characters to explore their own development through!!! that’s huge!!!#and he DID GET AN ARC!!!#i also Knew people were gonna get mad at the ‘lack of lore’ but the amount of confirmations we got in this chapter felt huge to me #we’re all on the same page now about a lot more stuff rather than just having it be a Very Likely Theory #ch4 is still my fav but i was so happy with ch5

i’ll have to do a separate post later with game screenshots to better illustrate my point but AHH the kris/susie/noelle dynamic after everything in ch5 is actually making me insane. like ch2 noelle “kris knows me better than anyone, but it’s hard to say we’re exactly friends” and “kris is the only one who knows how weird i really am.” the “it felt like a concert just for me” holidaygirl1225 blog post. susie sleeping in kris’s bed in the dark world. susie’s ch2 “damn, kris would know what to do!” on the ferris wheel and ch4 “they’re really good at…flirting?” when talking to noelle. susie and noelle being in fuckin adorable young love with each other. both of them wanting kris there on their first date because it’s less awkward but also bc kris makes them both feel safe and i’m not sure how aware kris is of that. kris mumbling when the player chooses “you and noelle will work out” when talking to susie. susie admitting she thought kris and noelle might’ve been a thing before she got to know them. kris’s dialogue options for “you should carry me next” and “you’re cute when you’re embarrassed.” susie wanting to include noelle in the dark world and castle town even tho thus far it’s been her and kris’s “special thing.” crying screaming gnawing at my cage bars. you kids are making me UNWELL.
