High in the Circle Tower
A short story about the Hero of Ferelden and some thoughts about her time in the Circle Tower.
Trapped in the high Circle Tower, like a bird in a gilded cage. Sometimes, she would look out the large windows from high up above and wonder, what would it take for her to fly away from there? If she should leap, would she fly away from there, sprout wings and let the wind take hold of her, carry her as she swiftly flew away from her prison? But, ofcourse, the templars had made sure they couldn’t escape through the windows, someone had tried before and succeeded. The success was, however, not that long winded since it ultimately ended in death. I think they aimed for the lake, but to be fair, it is kind of hard to make a perfect dive from the higher floors of towers. Others had made other attempts at escaping and succeeded before. Take Anders for example, I don’t think there is an escape route he HASN’T tried. But as usual, he always gets caught and sooner or later brought back to the Tower. It’s a miracle that he hasn’t been made tranquil yet. If he would’ve been in the Kirkwall Circle, he would have been made tranquil just by thinking of escaping. Those poor mages. It should be a comfort to know that at least it isn’t as bad as it is in Kirkwall, but it is hard to be grateful for one's cage no matter how much space it holds. A bird in a big cage is still, nevertheless, trapped. Her friend Jowan felt the same way and they often discussed it. Recently, however, Jowan had seemed to gain new motivation in regards to life in the Tower, it probably had something to do with his “mystery woman” he recently started seeing. Seeing that it was forbidden to form such “attachments” one could say that Jowan was brave, but seeing that Anders basically fucked anyone that came close and was willing. Goddess, everything seemed to relate to rebellion when it came to Anders. One time, he even tried to fuck a templar. Mind you, it’s not the first time someone has fucked a Templar, it was just that Anders went after Knight-Templar Gregoiar. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Anders run so fast in his life. After that, he spent time in solitary confinement for almost a whole month.
The must have tutorial for porting hair for Dragon Age: Origins
If you want to port hair I recommend to watch Boodrls video tutorial. She explains everything you need to know to make your ports! It’s very, very useful to get started with Blender 2.49b.
Without her tutorials we wouldn’t have so many hair mods available!
Once you have understood what to do and have your first succesful ported hair, you can use the gained knowledge for porting armours too or for making mash ups etc… not only for Dragon Age: Origins!
This ist the first part. The other parts (2-7) will be listed in the sidebar of youtube.
Happy Modding!

Autumn Leaf
A little something I’ve been working on a while (kind of). It’s kind of abstract, but I wanted to post it nevertheless.
In an autumn forest with yellow-orange and red leaves, massive trees frame a path in which the sunlight basks through the thick branches. It is warm, it is cold. It is an autumn afternoon.
Like a leaf, I twirl through the wind leaving the safeness which was my branch and taking a leap of faith. I’m twirling, searching for a secure spot on the autumn path. The cold brisk wind he guides me, drives me in different directions. He gently touches my cheek, caresses me delicately and beguiles me. Guide me to where I shall go, Wind. See my path not as yours, but as ours.
As the leaf I am, you tug me in another direction, you trail me away from the sunlit autumn path and you pull me high away into the cold autumn twilight. Stars as bright as fire shine on me as I get tugged away from the place I called home, from the tree which was once my haven. I see the orange-yellow Forrest which I’ve known from spring, and I drift away from what I thought would be my fate. The stars shine so brightly, and their white gloom reflects on my orange surface. Guide me Wind. Blow me into a different place, make my fate something else than what I predicted. His cold embrace tugs me over a sea bathing in starlight. The moon smiles down on the sea and colours it in the tint of the night. I’m so high up, I can almost touch the stars on this cold autumn night.
Wind, hold me close. He embraces me hard, so hard that I have to hold my breath. He squeezes me into his chest and when the world seems to reach its peak of tumbling wonderous chaos, he pushes me towards the cold cold sea. I drift from his embrace, thrown away from the crescendo of a lifetime. As I hit the hard water surface I slowly sink away from the white burning stars. I sink away from the smile of the moon. I sink away from the forest of safety.
How could I sink? I am as a feather, I am a leaf, light as the air on which I once flew. But it is not my weight that is drowning me, it is the guilt. It is the guilt that festers in my very being, which grows larger by the minute, like a raging forest fire. It swallows me whole and drowns me in the depth of the ocean.
In a cold pitch-black ocean, loneliness echoes without response. It is cold, it is bleak. It is timeless. Like a rock, I am stuck to the ground hopelessly biding my time. As a leaf, I chose to drown.
Nightmares - Part 2
Part 2 of my “Nightmares” Cullen & The Bull series. Because what’s better than the Bull’s big ol’ hands on you? Tried to write smut but, oh well, fluff is good as well i guess.
Cullen are having troubles with nightmares, Bull thinks he can help. Bull invites him to his chambers after some drinks at the bar.
Didn’t have the energy to go over it too well, but I still wanted to post it.
Cullen stod in Bull’s quarters, unsure of why he had followed him up there. But something about what Bull had talked about radiated in him, and curiosity got the better of him. Guilt seeped inside, whispering that he shouldn’t be there, that he should leave. Normally, it would have guided Cullens actions, but the drinks they had had earlier suppressed the condemnatory whispering of his own guilt. Therefore, he decided to stay.
Cullen stood close to the door, somewhat frozen in place by his own feelings of misplacement, observing the Bull as he moved around the room, giving life to a flame in the fireplace which spread a warm glow in the room. Warmth emancipated from the blaze and filled the room with a pleasant warmth that seeped into Cullens very bones and brought a sense of safeness. However, Cullen still couldn’t seem to relax even though the warmth bathed him in a feeling of security and the drinks had dulled his senses somewhat. Letting go had always been a problem for Cullen, especially since the fateful incident at the circle tower. Letting go meant that someone or something might try to breach what you’ve built up, it meant allowing the evil to penetrate your very essence, to seep into one’s self and destroy you from the inside out. And that was something Cullen had feared since the tower.
Bull turned around and observed Cullen as he stood looking somewhat uncomfortable next to the door. He could see that this situation was something unknown for him, and he was aware that he would have to move along slowly to best reach Cullen. But Bull was aware of this, and he knew that the best way to reach a wounded animal was with patience.
“You could come into the room you know, the door will still be there if you move away from it,” the Bull said and chuckled.
“Oh right”, Cullen answered as Bull had broken his frozen trans. The Bull still hadn’t explained exactly what he thought he could do to help him, and even though this made Cullen feel a bit anxious about the whole situation, another tiny part of him felt intrigued. Bull leaned against one of the bedposts as Cullen slowly moved a bit closer into the now lit up room, but still leaving a fair space between him and the Bull.
“So commander, I think you have Asala-taar”. Bull said.
“Wh.. what?” Cullen answered, confused by the unknown Qunlat word.
“Soul sickness. Usually, the boys back home get reassigned when they contract it. But I know what could help you.” Bull said, closely observing Cullen as he moved away from the bedpost and slowly walked closer towards him. Cullen could feel the thumping of his heart slowly gaining pace as Bull moved closer and he had to convince his feet to hold their ground. As the Bull closed the gap between them, Cullen had to look up to keep eye contact with this giant Qunari, and the closer he got, the more he realised the sheer size difference between them. The Bull stopped just in front of Cullen, and if he wanted, Cullen could raise his hand and it would be greeted by the Bull’s muscular front body.
“Is it alright if I touch you?” Bull said calmly as he gazed down towards Cullen with a gentleness in his eye. Cullen swallowed as he gazed into Bull’s certain eye. He knew about the rumours that were told about the Bull, about how he sometimes fooled around with the barmaids and others as well. He had even overheard the Bull explain once the Qunaries laid back attitude towards sex. Could this be what he meant? Anyhow, Cullen could feel his somewhat dulled senses gain the better of him and answered -“Okay”, whilst trying to keep his voice from trembling. Bull then slowly put his hands on either side of his arms, holding Cullen steady where they stood.
“I can see how tense you are Commander, and I can feel it as well. I think a massage could help you, if you don’t mind these big ol’ hands on you.” Bull said chuckling, with a playful gleam in his eye.
Cullen could feel himself blush and hoped that the Bull wouldn’t notice. Cullen could to his own surprise feel himself nodding towards the Bull to answer. Bull then swiftly moved his hands up towards Cullens shoulder, where it rested on top of his armour.
“Kinda hard though to work anything out with this much armour on Commander”, Bull said, smirking.
“Oh, well I can… I can remove some parts”. Cullen said, unable to move under the Bull’s warming hand, feeling his cheeks spark up once more.
“You can keep your pants on. If you want to that is” Bull said teasingly whilst he removed his hands from Cullen and once again repositioned himself at the bedpost. “When you’re done undressing you can lay down on the bed so I really can get into your knots”, Bull said as he crossed his arms, observing Cullen as he clumsily struggled to remove his armour. Cullen removed his armour until the only clothes remaining were his undershirt and pants.
“The shirt as well Commander,” Bull hummed with a small smile on his lips, looking towards him with amusement in his eye. Cullen slowly removed his shirt as well and placed it on the pile on the floor among his other clothes.
“Good. Now come here”, Bull said as he gesticulated towards the bed. Cullen slowly started to move towards the Bull’s bed, feeling a small shiver running down his spine as he could feel the embarrassment gather in his cheeks once more.
“You can lay on your stomach,” Bull said with a warmth in his voice which seemed to emancipate from a place of care. Cullen swallowed once more, nervous by this whole ordeal whilst he slowly laid himself down on the big bed. Bull intrigued him, and even though Cullen never would do this normally, the Bull made him feel safe in a way he could not remember feeling for a long time, therefore, he stayed and allowed the Bull to come a bit closer than he normally would allow anyone to come.
“You okay Commander?”, Bull asked tenderly, as he stood next to the bed.
“Yes, I’m… I’m alright. You can start whenever you want to”, Cullen said as he laid down on his stomach on the Bull’s big bed.
“Try to relax”, the Bull hummed. Cullen then took a deep breath, which seemed to be enough for the Bull as he slowly started to massage Cullen’s back, roughly working out the knots which resided there. He thoroughly worked his way across Cullen’s tense back and moved towards his neck. Cullen had gotten the impression that this would perhaps only be a quick massage, but the Bull took his time and carefully worked him over. Cullen could feel his knots dissolving under the Bull’s working fingers, and as the Bull started to massage him with a gentler touch, Cullen could feel his fatigue descend upon him. With the strangely secure feeling of the Bull’s hands on him, he felt sleep overcome him and he drifted off.
A guilt of the Mind
Drown me in the guilt of my mind. An internal screaming which echoes along the walls in the hall of consciousness. It bounces around, increasing in magnitude until all I can hear is its deafening sound of war. A war in which the mind is slowly giving in.
It is drowning me slowly, as a cold dark ocean in which I am sinking deeper and deeper. But am I sinking, or in fact swimming down towards the pitch-black bottom? An escape within the self-hatred that fuel my very being. Down at the bottom of the ocean, there is a cure, a way for me to breathe down here, a way for me to accept the dark descent as a form of semi-permanent habitat. However, the price is high to those on the outside, even though down here, in the vast cold ocean, it is all that is wished of me. Its seductive voice lures me in, screams at me in languages too well known by the heart. An easy escape it offers me, a way to breathe underwater. But, do I deserve to breathe?
The Dread Wolf’s Heart is Changed Already
Give me a Solas who’s primary goal when you’d just stumbled out of the Fade wasn’t to save your life, but to ascertain the status of the Anchor.
Give me a Solas who objectively decides that you’re more useful to him alive than dead, so he saves your life. A Solas who decides that you deserve to live for that bit longer so that you can close the Breach. The world’s only hope.
Give me a Solas that realizes quite early on that it’s a shame you weren’t born in his time, he would have probably liked you.
Give me a Solas that slowly comes to the realisation that he respects you, is beginning to trust you to make the choices that most benefit the oppressed, the weak, those who can’t get what they need for themselves.
(Give me a Solas that doesn’t realise how much trouble he’s in until he tells himself that this, no this is the time that he’ll stop encouraging whatever is going on between you.
Give me a Solas that is so focussed on denying his growing feelings that you manage to catch him off guard. A Solas who is far worse at dealing with his feelings than you are because he’s still trying to pretend he’s not having them.
Give me a Solas that looks back on those few days where he was coldly contemplating killing you and his gut clenches at how easy it could have been. A Solas that sometimes, out of the blue, just takes your hand and squeezes, brings you into the circle of his arms just to remind himself of what he would have lost had he made a different choice.)
Give me a Solas who realizes he’s learning for the first time in Ages. Who is seeking you out to sate his own curiosity as much as you are seeking him. A Solas that truly regrets having to leave, knowing that this is the last time you will be allies.
Give me a Solas that has to prepare for you now, is not going to make the mistake of underestimating you. A Solas that still questions himself, still interrogates his own actions, who can’t quite stop asking himself if he’s doing the right thing. Only now, that voice sounds like you. And it’s stronger than it’s ever been.
“I would not have you see what I become.”
No, because only he knows just how close you’ve been to that side of him already. Because your brush with the Dread Wolf happened whilst you were sleeping, before you ever knew he existed. By the time he’s introducing himself on that mountain, you’ve been closer to the man he’s trying to protect you from in Trespasser than you ever are again.
Basically. Give me an arc to this potential character growth, Bioware. Do NOT let it fizzle out into Generic Bad Guy. You brought the Dread Wolf to us just after he’d coldly murdered a close friend without even looking them in the eye just because they’d failed him. And then you let him CARE. Don’t make that for nothing.
Nightmares- Part 1
Not super proud over this one, but I still wanted to post it. A fluff “series” with Cullen Rutherford and the Iron Bull, (I do have a weakness for the Bull, I know). Basically, Cullen can’t sleep since he is haunted by nightmares from what happened at the Circle of Magi. Bull wants to help.
Part 1 of ???
“Cullen don’t you want me? Let me in and I’m yours” she said with a crooked smile.
“No, no… leave me alone Demon! Just leave me alone...”
“Let me in Cullen… Just let me in…”
“GO AWAY! I will not break....!” With a flash, the vision was gone and Cullen found himself on the cold floor of the circle of Magi, surrounded by the magic barrier which held him prisoner. Outside the barrier stod one of the blood mages who sought to enter his mind and turn him into something twisted.
“Such a stubborn one! Wouldn’t it be easier to just give in? Think of the great you would do” said the blood mage whilst slowly running her fingers across the outside of the barrier which imprisoned Cullen.
“Such a sweet boy” the mage purred, “give me time sweet, and I will find what will break you…” she smirked at Cullen who laid on his knees on the cold floor, covering his ears in an attempt to block out the mage's malicious words. Cullen was exhausted after days without food and water, also after the amount of mental abuse which the mages had inflicted on him. The mage found Cullens attempt to shut her out amusing and laughed at him.
“You think that will keep me out?” the mage hummed ominously.
“Enough visions! If anything in you is human, kill me now...!” Cullen begged the observing mage, laying his forehead down on the cold stone floor. A smile slowly curled on the mage’s lips as she heard his pleas.
“Well pet, what’s the fun in that?” she said laughing as she once again tried to invade Cullen’s mind with her blood magic whilst he screamed out in agony…
Cullen woke up with a shock, his heart pounding in his chest and his body feeling sticky from all the sweat. He gasped for air and clutched his sheets as he looked around his room, ensuring that he was in fact still in Skyhold and not at the circle. It was dark outside and Cullen could see through the hole in his bedroom’s roof that the stars were still out, indicating that he must have slept no longer than two hours or so. This was the fourth night this had happened. Cullen was used to the nightmares, but he had never thought they would become insufferable without Lyrium.
“Makers breath”, Cullen sighed as he sat up in his bed, the chilly night air nibbling at him. Cassandra and the others had told him many times that he should patch up the hole in the roof, but Cullen always had other priorities which he put before his own comfort. He had vowed to not give any less to the Inquisition than he had given to the Templars, and this was a vow he intended to keep, no matter the consequences. He had thought of commencing his Lyrium intake once again to achieve this goal, but Inquisitor Lavellan had told him to be strong, she had ensured him that he could be without it. And for her sake, for the hope she had in him, he could not let her down. These nightmares, however, did his vow no favour since they caused him to be without sleep which affected his ability to confront his daily chores. The horrifying nightmares had now awoken him several nights, and Cullen had learned that as soon he sought the embrace of sleep, the nightmares would creep up on him once again. He had tried during the last several nights to have the benefit of the doubt, he was hoping that if he just tried falling asleep, the nightmares might not come. But every night he was proved wrong. Recently, he had given up on trying to fall asleep once again after being woken up by nightmares, the fear of enduring the nightmares were worse than not sleeping at all according to Cullen. So instead, he had begun tackling the workload on his desk during the nights. There was always something that needed the attention of the Commander of the Inquisition, and Cullen appreciated whatever could evade him from recalling what had happened at the circle of magi. By doing this, Cullen thought he could still prove his worth to the Inquisition, even though it might result in him being a bit more tired during the days.
Cullen sighed and brushed his golden hair from his forehead. Cullen then arose from his bed and started to get dressed since he had no further intention to seek solace in sleep for the night. He adorned his armour and wrapped the red fur over his shoulders, climbing down the ladder to greet the workload of paper awaiting him.
As the night transformed into day, the sun danced on the papers which Cullen had been working on informing him that the day was about to begin. Cullen felt weary since he had only been sleeping approximately two hours per night for the last several nights, but he would not allow this to disturb him. Cullen gathered his belongings and headed towards the pub, where breakfast soon would be served.
As he entered the pub, the conventional sound of people talking, tableware scraping and the familiar smell of fried eggs and porridge filled his senses.
“Makers let them have coffee…” Cullen thought to himself as he went to fetch some breakfast. Recently, Cullen had been drinking way more coffee than usual, he needed to find some way to focus on the tasks at hand instead of his intense lust to simply curl up into a ball and fall asleep. What a dilemma, wanting to sleep but dreading the nightmares that he knew would follow sleeps predicament. Cullen grabbed a bowl of porridge and a steaming cup of hot coffee and spied across the tavern for a place to sit down. Inquisitor Lavellan was (as per usual) up early and eating her breakfast. Next to her sat Josephine, Leliana, Cassandra and Dorian, discussing something which seemed to relate to shoes. Cassandra did not seem too eager to engage in the topic at hand. As Cullen spied across the bar, looking for a free place to sit, the Iron Bull waved him over.
“Cullen, over here”.
The Iron Bull sat among Sera and his charger at a larger table, laughing and chatting. Cullen complied with his request and headed towards the table. Cullen sat down next to Bull with the talkative group, the conversation already underway.
“What I wouldn’t give for some hot cocoa….”
“Dalish, can’t you whip some up with that staff of yours?”
“I told you, it’s not a staff it’s a bow”
“A bow with a giant crystal at the end?”
“It helps with aiming, old Dalish trick, you wouldn’t understand”, Dalish said, snickering at Krem and the others at the table as they continued to discuss and chatter.
Cullen didn’t listen too well and instead started taking big gulps of his coffee, feeling it slightly burn down his throat on the way down.
“Ey there commander, the coffee won’t run away from you ya know” Sera snickered at Cullen. Bull let out a laugh and gazed attentively at Cullen. Sera then diverted her attention back towards the others as Cullen simply continued drinking his coffee, ignoring her statement.
“Feeling a bit tired today are we?” the Bull said as he gazed down on Cullen with a small smile. Cullen himself was a well-built man, Templar training did that to you. But when sitting next to Bull, who was big even for a Qunari, Cullen felt tiny.
“Just had a lot of work to do last night”, Cullen said, quickly gazing up towards Bull before he delved back into his coffee once more. He could feel the Bull’s eye lingering on him, inspecting him.
“Just don’t work yourself to death”, Bull said sounding somewhat concerned as he laid one of his huge hands on Cullen’s shoulder, giving him a light squeeze. A warmth spread from the Qunarie’s hand, and Cullen did not know why, but he could feel his cheeks slightly blush at the Bull’s touch.
After a long day of meetings and chores, night once again came to place and Cullen was walking towards the ramparts, heading to his quarters. Cullen had already decided to abstain from sleeping this night. The thought of once again having to face the horrifying nightmares terrified him to his very bones, and he would rather stay awake than risk reliving the nightmares once again.
Cullen went up the stairs of the ramparts towards his courter as the dark of night set in and stopped outside his door. The rest of Skyhold was already fast asleep or spending the evening in more preferable ways than this. Cullen could of course join some of his friends to spend the evening in a better way as well, but he didn’t want to trouble them and he didn’t think himself worthy of taking a night off since he barely was able to concentrate on his tasks during the day. First when he had managed to live up to the demands of the Inquisition, then he would allow himself to take some time off, he told himself. So as of now, what laid before him was work. But even though Cullen had made himself sure that this was the truth, he could not convince his legs to enter the room. Cullen sighed and looked towards the peaky snowy mountains which surrounded Skyhold as he leaned over the battlement and reflected on how serene and quiet the night could be even though there was a storm in his mind.
“Admiring the surroundings, are we?”
Cullen gasped surprised and turned around to see the Iron Bull leaning towards the ramparts.
“Makers breath,” Cullen said, surprised that he had not heard the giant Qunari sneak upon him. But several nights without sleep had of course dulled his senses. The Iron Bull laughed warmly at Cullens flustered state.
“At ease commander, I come in peace,” Bull chuckled and smirked at Cullen. Cullen felt embarrassed over his flustered state and quickly straightened his back as he snapped back into his Templar training.
“Is there anything I could do for you, the Iron Bull?” Cullen asked, trying to sound as composed as possible. The Bull smirked at Cullen and seemed to take pleasure in the former templars attempt to remain ever in control.
“Well, it’s more what I could do for you, Commander”, the Iron Bull replied.
“Wha… What? Excuse me?” Cullen said, stumped at the Bull’s statement. What could he mean by that? Cullen couldn’t recall anything that he might need the Bull’s help. But, perhaps the Inquisitor had asked the Bull to help with training the recruits or somewhat like that.
And as if Bull could see how Cullens mind started to race, he said:
“It’s nothing to do with the Inquisition Commander”.
Cullen was slightly surprised by this statement since he could not think of any other area that could require the Bull’s help.
Bull observed Cullens reactions closely, and as he could see how Cullen grew somewhat perplexed over his statement, he decided to get straight to the point.
“For how long haven’t you slept?” Bull asked, sounding somewhat concerned.
“I… How did you…?” Cullen stuttered, surprised that someone had actually noted that he had not slept relatively well for the last several days. Cullen deemed that he had done a good job disguising it, trying his best to be as effective as ever, even though exhaustion had crept itself upon him during the days.
“Ben-Hassrath, remember?” Bull said with a twinkle in his eye that almost made Cullen blush.
“Oh yes... Of course”, Cullen said, avoiding Bulls inspecting gaze whilst he tried to compose himself.
“So how long?”, Bull asked once again.
“Well, I mean… Only a couple of days. But… I… I am quite fine thank you” Cullen said, quite embarrassed that this mercenary seemed to care about Cullens sleeping habits and well being. Bull let out another rumbling chuckle, smiling at how flustered Cullen became over Bull’s questions. Bull assumed that he was not used to people caring for him in this manner of way. Instead, he expected that it usually was the other way around, that Cullen was the one who posed as the caring party. Therefore, he was probably not accustomed to others seeking to bring him comfort. This Bull intended to change.
“You wanna talk about it?” Bull said, concernedly examining Cullen with his eye.
“I… I have some work that needs my attention…” Cullen replied, feeling his cheeks blush under the Bulls inspecting gaze.
“Come on down to the bar, grab a drink. The work can wait a while”, Bull stated as he stopped leaning against the rampart, showing the real height difference between the two.
“Oh… okay… But isn’t the bar closed?” Cullen asked as he followed Bull.
“It’s never closed for those who know where the booze is,” Bull said chuckling.
The bar which normally was swarming with happy patrons was now empty. Bull headed towards the bar and pulled up two large mugs and filled them with something he grabbed from his own pocket.
“What’s that?” Cullen asked.
“A little something from Par Vollen. Something to put some chest on your chest. Drink!” Bull said and handed him one of the hunormous mugs. Perhaps he shouldn’t, Cullen thought to himself. But since Bull had already begun to heave his own drink, Cullen felt it would be impolite to refuse. He raised the mug and took a sip of the sharp smelling drink. As the substance passed down his throat, he could feel it burn as if set on fire. Cullen started coughing loudly, surprised at how strong the drink actually was.
“The second cup’s easier. Most of the nerves in your throat are dead after the first one”, Bull said laughing.
“I’m not sure my throat would survive more”, Cullen said, glancing down into the still over-filled mug in his hands.
“Maraas-Lok! Drink!” Bull said chuckling at Cullen.
Cullen felt it rude to decline and took another deep chug of the strong alcohol. One again he started coughing and could already feel his head starting to spin a bit. Cullen didn’t have a chance, the stuff was extremely strong, and the fact that he was exhausted only made him drunk faster.
“There we go, down the hatch,” Bull said, smiling encouragingly towards Cullen.
Cullen chugged the rest of the content of the mug down his throat, the stuff going down slightly easier this time since the alcohol had already numbed his throat since before, as Bull had said. He could feel his mind becoming somewhat foggy, and the alcohol made him slump in his posture a tiny bit. Bull seemed to notice and smiled teasingly at him. Cullen blushed quickly and tried to regain his proper templar posture under Bull's teasing look.
“So are you ready to talk now? Bull said, crossing the bar and setting himself down on a chair next to Cullen. Bull turned his body so he faced Cullen and gave him his full attention whilst listening attentively to every word Cullen said.
“Well, I… I’ve just had some problems with nightmares the recent nights… So I’ve had some trouble sleeping, that’s all”, Cullen said as he slightly bit his lip and looked down into his now empty mug as he felt it too embarrassing to gaze into the large Qunarie’s eye. Cullen usually wouldn’t have told the Bull this, but the alcohol had made him let loose a bit.
“So how many nights has it been like that?” Bull asked, concerned. It surprised Cullen how soft he could sound. This towering hulk of a Qunarie who fought dragons as if they were nothing, and here he was sitting next to Cullen, concerned if Cullen was sleeping enough or not.
“A week or two perhaps?” Cullen answered, still staring down into the bottom of his mug.
“Mhm,” the Bull hummed as he inspected Cullen. Bull was so close to Cullen that he would touch him if he just would lean in a bit. Cullen could feel the warmth that was radiating from Bull's body and a thought crossed his drunk mind over how easy it would be to just lean into him and cuddle up in his warm embrace. Cullen quickly combatted the notion as his posture grow stiff as he felt his ears growing hot from the thought.
“So what are these nightmares about?” Bull asked.
“I… I’d rather not say” Cullen answered. He was aware that Bull probably already knew about Cullen's past, it wasn’t exactly a secret. But he didn’t feel comfortable enough to reveal the memories which hunted him nightly yet, even under the influence of alcohol. Or rather, he felt too ashamed to talk about them.
“I understand, you don’t have to,” Bull hummed. Bull then laid one of his hands across Cullens back. It was so big that it covered the most part of his upper back. Cullen froze from the unexpected touch and almost stopped breathing for a second. Why did Bull’s touch affect him in this way, he thought to himself.
“I think I know what your problem is Commander” Bull said smirking, as he still held his hand firmly on Cullens back. “And I know what could help”.
Adoribull - Black tar
A fluff/angst with Dorian and Iron Bull from the Dragon age Inquisition game.
The festering feeling grew back, laid itself bare on the inside, took up all the space it could until it filled the entirety of him. Like black tar, it seeped itself into every knock and cranny of him, filled the dark areas of himself which he sought to hide, which he aimed to turn away. The black tar filled them to the brim, and all he could do was try to breathe, though it seemed harder by the minute, like drowning in fear.
“Regain control,” he thought to himself.
“Breath in and out, same as always”.
But the black tar had seeped into his lungs, making a single breath seem impossible. It placed a weight across his chest, making him involuntarily clench all the muscles in his body, including his jaw. He could feel himself losing the battle as the tar slowly seeped into his mind. His head slowly filled with the deafening thumping of his own heart, louder and louder until it drowned out the sound of the bar and everyone in it. Normally he would look for an exit, a way to flee the area, he would take flight to a place where the black tar could fester on him without anyone else noticing. But this time, the black tar seemed to have gained the advantage quickly, making him unable to move or break its terrifying trans. All that was left was the intense fear building inside him, leaving him frozen as he could feel himself mentally being alone in a room filled with people. Just as he felt himself drowning in the darkness which surrounded him, Dorian felt a hand land on his shoulder.
“You wanna go outside for a bit?” said the Iron Bull with his hand on Dorian’s shoulder. Dorian glanced up at the Bull, the weight of his hand seemed to anchor him, seemed to provide him with enough to be able to press out the word
“Okay”.
Bull nodded at Dorian and guided him out of the tavern out into the cool night air.
Normally, Bull’s teasing would make Dorian’s spurn. “These big muscled hands could tear those robes off while you struggled, helpless in my grip. I'd pin you down, and as you gripped my horns; I. Would. Conquer. You”. Dorian was confused by these statements if he were completely honest with himself. And sometimes during the day, his mind would find itself wondering how Bull’s hands would feel on him… But he always quickly combat those thoughts, swiftly trying to chase away the idea of how Bull’s big hands on his body would press him down, would take him... But what Bull was doing right now, laying his arm on Dorian’s shoulder in this manner meant something else, it seemed like something else than teasing. It provided the possibility that Bull might see the cracks in Dorian’s well-constructed mask, perhaps see what hid in under, and this frightened Dorian. But as of now, no matter how much Dorian would rather provide a witty comment regarding Bull’s hand on his shoulder and then remove it, the only thing that seemed to stop the black tars advance was this Qunaries hand on his shoulder.
Once they were outside, Bull continued guiding Dorian away from the loud noises coming from the bar, up towards the rampart where the stars gleamed and the night’s cold embrace gave his skin goosebumps. Up there, next to the Bull’s room, he stopped to face Dorian and laid his second hand on Dorian’s other shoulder. Bull looked him in the eyes and stepped the slightest bit closer towards him.
“Breathe. Focus on me. Focus on my voice. It’s just you and me here. Breathe.” Bull said with his low rumbling voice as he lightly caressed Dorian’s shoulders. Dorian gazed into his eye and found only calmness and concern where he thought he would find… something completely else. This surprised him. Bull’s soft-touch also surprised him. This was a side he hadn’t earlier seen in Bull, not up close at least. And even though Dorian was confused about the situation he found himself in, it was as if Bull’s voice had quieted the sound of Dorian’s pulsating heart, as if it had given his body permission to listen to something other than the deafening chaos within him. The pressure over Dorian’s chest slightly gave way under Bull’s touch and Dorian drew in a raspy breath of the chilly night air into his lungs and felt the black tar haltering its advance.
“That’s it Dorian, breathe. I got you”. Bull said calmly. In Bull’s hand, he slowly started to breathe calmer, deeper breaths than before. Slowly he could feel the black tar pulling away, removing its grip over him as the cold night air seeped its way into his lungs, almost making his eyes water. He shouldn’t let Bull see him like this he thought, but at this moment, Bull seemed to anchor him, to pull him to a safe harbour. Dorian couldn’t bring himself to deny Bull’s warm touch and soothing voice even though he should according to himself. But as of now, Bull was a light in the dark, guiding Dorian away from the darkness which festered within him.
“I got you Dorian”.
Dorian looked up into Bull’s calm warm gaze and felt the world slow down to its normal pace once again. Slowly the black tar dissolved and the panic which had taken its grip over Dorian slowly gave away. Under Bull’s hands, Dorian’s muscles slowly started to unclench.
Dorian had had “incidents” like this in the past several times actually. But he had learned to hide them well, and when the moments came when he could not overcome the black tar he would lock himself away in his room. In there, the despair could eat away at him until he no longer could breathe and until tears had wet his face unrecognisable. After that, when the storm had stilled, he would fix himself up and continue as before. Never had anyone ever discovered him during one of these incidents, and never had he let anyone seen him in such a state. But here was Bull, helping Dorian doing something as trivial as breathing, guiding him away from the brink of the precipice which he normally would descend down by himself. Dorian’s turned away his face from Bull’s gaze as his thoughts starting to chase each other and embarrassment and shame pervaded his mind as he blamed himself for letting someone in a bit to close. Bull could see that Dorian’s thoughts were turning into something toxic and cupped his cheek to refocus Dorian’s faltering eyes on his face once more.
“It’s okay Dorian. You had a panic attack, they can be rough”.
Bull’s embrace made Dorian’s cheeks fluster and he had to fight the temptation to lean into his touch. Since he focused so hard to not give in to the soft touch of the Iron Bull’s rough hand, he could not hinder his cheeks from turning slightly pink. Bull let out a burst of warm laughter at the Vints reaction and smiled at him. His laugh awoke something in Dorian, and with his regained control over mind and body, he managed to wriggle himself free from the Iron Bulls warm and safe touch and took a step away from Bull, distancing himself.
“Well if you’re perfectly done with fondling the beautiful Vint I’m going to leave. I know it’s significantly difficult to avoid touching me, but I would prefer if you would at least try not to”. Dorian said as he tried sounding as nonchalant as possible, aiming to regain his mask. Bull let out another rumbling laughter and set his hand on his hips, looking at Dorian with amusement in his eye.
“That so? Well, your cheeks tell me otherwise.”
Dorian simply huffed at his response, embarrassed over his reaction at Bull’s hand on his cheek. Bull swiftly inspected Dorian with his gaze, to see if he was alright after what took place earlier. Finding that Dorian seemed to be okay once again Bull said
“But if you would like some more touching some other time, no matter the reason, my door is always open”. Bull said as he momentarily locked eyes with Dorian. Dorian eyes faltered as he dared not look at Bull in case his cheeks once again might betray him.
“If I someday would find myself longing for a visit to a bedroom with a hole in the roof, I’ll be certain to visit,” Dorian said sarcastically, attempting to cover up the emotions Bull’s offer actually awoken within him.
The bull would have wanted to have stayed a bit longer with Dorian, to ensure that he truly was alright once again. But he saw that Dorian once again had put on the mask he wore daily, and Bull wasn’t sure that trying to get in under the mask was the best idea for tonight. He would have to save that for another time.
“Goodnight Dorian” Bull said with a glint in his eye as he retired to his room, leaving Dorian in the cold night air momentarily before Dorian retired to his own courters.
