other thing I love about Ishikawa's writing other than like everything about it, is how she seems to have decided that even an overpowered protagonist isn't immune to whump.

under her watch in HW post-patches, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker the WoL has been poisoned, filled with magical corruption that brings with it crippling pain and the terror of turning into a monster, dying to a chemical weapon in the alternate timeline, non-consensually body swapped with a stranger and nearly dying in that body, forced to walk onwards alone after watching all their friends die, then a near-death scene that has all their friends crying over them, and I love it

well this one is a bit confusing at points if you haven't read The Fool's Errand, so allow me to explain:

Melin has an artificial sternum created in part by Garlond Ironworks, after her original one was damaged by Zenos in their final battle and she proceeded to not allow herself to recover to the point that she managed to damage it beyond repair. It also contains a suite of various sensors to keep track of her bodily functions, the output of which is constantly transmitted to the Ironworks team. Melin initially doesn't mind, but the events of this comic might change her opinion.

Wait, Melin and Wedge are family?

Yep, they're cousins. Melin's birth father was the older brother of Wedge's mother. They only learn this when Wedge visits his hometown for the first time in twelve years so Melin can figure out what her birth father's deal was. They both feel weird about it, but Melin more so.
