it's 5am and my head hurts and I should be sleeping but I can't stop thinking about Azune using Mending on Bolaire. "I would show you," Bolaire says, fissures in his voice, in his composure, because it is so important that these people believe him. I can show you my body, my seams, my secrets, the most flawed and vulnerable parts of me. And then Azune, gentle as can be, says: "No, it's okay. That's not what I'm looking for. Bolaire, that's not what I'm looking for."
And he has been looking. While Hal asks his questions and Murray stares in half-wonder and half-glee. He is the one looking. He touched Bolaire's "face" before: "Does this feel like flesh?" searching for something living and person-like. And earlier: "Are you alive?" asking for sentience, intelligence, compassion. But Bolaire can't give him either. "How would I know?" and "It depends on your definition of alive." But still, even then, Azune casts Mending.
(And if you think about it, I feel like this is the same as Cure Wounds. This is the same as laying on hands and attempting to heal someone. Bolaire can't be stitched back together the way a flesh and blood body can, but his shape, his form, it can remember that it once was whole and return to that wholeness.)
Azune, hearing that Bolaire cannot confirm their personhood, does not draw back, does not reject or judge, he heals Bolaire, or the closest possible thing he can do for a person that is also an object. And it feels like such a monumental acknowledgement of Bolaire as more than a thing, with such a simple gesture. Azune could have easily sided with Thjazi's perspective on Bolaire, any of them could have, but instead he offers them a kindness, an intimacy, a reassurance. He says: you are person enough for me to put back together again if you were harmed, and this is how I would do it.
And most heart wrenching of all is the response to this gesture, "Oh, interesting," Talesin says, "I don't know [how it would affect me]. I hadn't even thought about that." How else would they heal you, Bolaire? If not with this? But of course you wouldn't consider that, because who would heal a thing?
Azune Nayar would. Azune Nayar who prays the names of the dead and trusts his loved ones implicitly and cares so deeply he stomachs unimaginable pain instead of ever forgetting. He would imagine a way to tell you that you are safe, and accepted, and that you are a person to him, all in one fell swoop. And I hope to the gods they don't forget he did cast that before they were interrupted, because I want to know what a healing spell that is a remembering spell does to an object this ancient and I want to know how that object/person feels about being healed, or even the gesture of it

As the gods were destroyed, their realms of rest vanished.
In the worst instances of catastrophe and doom-saying by the population, some believe that they were destroyed and all those eternal souls destroyed due to the hubris of the mortals that rose up against the gods.
Others that, you know, the clerics that have come since that work in theoretical metaphysics that Bolaire would be well aware of, believe that the afterlives are still out there, just untethered from Aramán currently.
That's a matter of theology and conjecture and a lot of very flustered clerics would tell a worried mortal, "We're working on it."

Looking around on a 14, I think you are looking at this place where a god would demand tribute and on that perception check I think you just feel the nascent magic in this place of something bubbling, something boiling, there's something under this city that's running hot and on a 13 constitution save the feeling of that magical energy I think you feel something turn and slither in a way that makes you feel ill at ease.

Have I noticed this since specifically in this place, do I feel that it's connected to this place?
Brennan:
I think that you don't feel that the discomfort is due to this place. Actually, maybe the awareness of the discomfort is being caused by this place. In other words, some clarity has been added in this moment.

@amarits while showing me this post pointed out snake-like descriptors. Coiled. Slither. Snakes are often poised as enemies of birds in mythology because of their antithetical traits. This is a dichotomy that shows up in nearly every culture, if not every culture. Also potentially noteworthy here, if the dead gods are being portrayed as snakes… snakes are also associated with rebirth and immortality, because of how they shed skin.
I also want to point out that “auspicious” comes from the Latin word for the practice of using birds to divine the future, which I feel like is definitely an on-purpose double meaning that Taliesin picked up on due to his own knowledge, either in general, or specifically what he knows as Bolaire.
People acting like the schemers table is going to be the boring table…couldn’t be me. The political intrigue as they work in the shadows behind the scenes while also being respected members of society, plus top tier character work and dynamics. Sign me up for 3 seasons immediately!!
love watching c2 and whenever the nein don't know something, there's always a pattern that follows. first, they turn to the nerds (caleb and beau) and ask if they know it. then the nerds look at each other and wrack their heads to see if they do. if on the odd the chance they don't, the nerds make a trip to the nearest library and plan to barricade themselves in until they fill that gap in their knowledge. then they turn to the clerics (jester and cad) who then ask their gods. one talks to the wind and the other talks to a weasel. the guy talking to the wind is more successful at times. then they spend five more hours planning until fjord just decides to slam the red button. cinema.
Caught the beginning of CR4ep3 livestream but fell asleep during it.. so now I gotta wait until Monday to see what happens. But I did wake up with this image in my mind, so I had to draw it :)
