hey, hey, since i'm too lazy to spiff up my promo right now, take this bad boy instead! LIKE & / OR REBLOG if you want to interact with the detective!
psst, hey. it's still a heavy wip, but if you wanna write with me, go follow me over at @lawrising ! this guy has been my main muse for a whole year and i'll be way more active other there. and since he's from an obscure show, i'd love some support !!!
so yeah, that's where i'll be spending most of my time! so excited to write with anyone who follows me over. missed you guys <3
"are you a... ah, security guard, or cop, or something?" andy questions, fiddling with his glasses (the lenses of which are cracked) in one hand. "because... i'm not doing anything suspicious." // to modern au roger perhaps!! girl helpshdjdj
Such a wide mouth makes for an even longer frown when disturbed. Roger had heard the commotion with ease, rather large ears tuned to disruptions like a second nature. A skill so deeply embedded in himself that he's unsure who he'd be without it. In his gentle grip ( he's not scared after all, no need to tighten yet ) rests the wood of a broomstick. Odd engravings stained into the birch wood, in a way that makes it clear it's not natural upon any inspection. Carved them in himself, when there was free time. He absently strokes the handle with his crooked thumb to follow those grooves. Angling his rather disfigured face in the direction he feels breathing from, neck craning awkwardly to feel it even better. This was how he engaged with anyone who crossed his line of work, and it took much precision to perfect. At least he knows the person is facing him. If the pest tries to make a break for it, the loud thud of feet would alert him plenty, and he was spry enough to give chase. Despite his crippled figure, his long arms and aquired broomstick gave him an advantage every time. That, and he was the best predator when it came to the 'hide and seek' games that always followed.
( sometimes, they didn't even realize he was blind. his hat shadows his stolen eyes well, after all, so they never understand their advantage. easy, easy, easy— )
The incorrect guess makes his plump nose wrinkle in distaste, lips peeling back to show peculiar teeth. A cop? Did this pest see any badge on his person? Only thing pinned to his green attire was a name tag that any employee would have. 'Roger' plastered across the reflective metal ; right under the eye engraved into the whole thing. He's almost tempted to puff out his chest, like some sort of preening bird, so the person actually catches it— yet mentally grumbles about how embarrassing all that effort would be. Though talking wasn't his strong suit, the janitor knew he had no choice but to swiftly correct the error that was spoken. He didn't want anyone to think he was a higher position than he really was. If his employer heard ... His ears strain, ringing, and he quickly stops that train of muddy thoughts.
" Nnh-not either, clearly ... " For emphasis, Roger shakes the broom in his clutches. He would raise an eyebrow if he had one. " Cleaning th-things here and th-there. S'all I do. "
Despite the curt, honest response ; his slightly drained skin seems to flush up awkwardly. A mantra of 'please don't make fun of me' pounding vividly at his head. His speech dies as easily as it started. Too soft of a sound for such a creepy looking thing like him. He's human, he knows, yet he's never felt like one. Too odd even for his own skin, it seems. What a miserable road he's been tasked to walk. At least he's found solace here, among the job— effectively keeping his mind at bay while working towards bettering the establishment. Cleaning as he's tasked, securing things when he's asked, the whole shebang! It's why he finds his sadistic nature slowly rising whenever someone threatens that. Giving him a justifiable excuse to hone that tickled, violent nature and release it upon some poor thing. Especially when said poor thing is a trespassing, walking headache roaming about after hours.
Snorting, Roger finally smiles a bit. Such a thin lipped thing that curls too wickedly at the corners. " Isss th-that ssh-so? Mind puh-putting my doubts at ease, th-then? Why are you truly here? "
This time, his voice doesn't quiet out. It stays, never wavering, as he finally gets to the nitty gritty. He smiles, making sure to straighten his spine so he's at his full height. Towering over the other with little effort, something he can pinpoint when that familiar breathing starts tickling the fabric coating his lower chest. Only then does he tighten his grip on the broomstick, fingers creaking like the floor of this old death trap. He's still not scared, no, but he is preparing himself to lurch forward and grab if a chase begins. Which always happens—
Because they always run.
hey!! sorry for the absence as of late, i've been in the middle of moving states! so replies and activity are going to be extremely slow, but i'll be back around when im able. thank you for your patience ❤
Every nightmare has an end
@teachfear !
“ Missssss ... ”
It's a strangled sort of delight that crawls out of his creaky throat ; lips carving into his cheeks from how high he smiles. His arms lay askew, comfortable in the mere presence of the woman.
He's charmed, he's sure.
“ Looking as gh—good as always, ” Roger's getting more and more pleased at all the faces suddenly emerging.

"9. One muse reacts to the other hiding an injury"
Shadow Kid reacting to Roger, is possible? @prisontoybox
The lair of the impossible man is painstakingly silent, a tenseness wringing the air raw as the tall tell is obscured from sight. No child has seen him all day ; runaways gaining confidence around the forgotten areas when the janitor's scheduled checks never occured. Yet, like all else in the Maw, there was pitched fear slipping around like leeches. If they couldn't see the man ( known intimately by every child aboard the maw ) then where could he be? Was he high above, fingers curled around the ship's broken debris and hanging like a spider? Watching the flies pluck at his web before he swooped down to wrap them up in his expensive cloths? Was this period of momentary freedom for his amusement?
No runaway knew. It's been quiet for hours. Empty. No drag of arms or slurps to indicate the man was anywhere. For all anyone knew, he was finally dead— ripped to shreds by something bigger, something finally stronger than he.
Except that was all blind delusions and guesses rather than the truth. The truth is the impossible man remains, curled up in the corner of his lair where his television lay with him. For such a large creature the thing appears so small when ducked in the shadows, oddly resembling the child he used to be. His body ( oddly mixmatched in sizes ) wrecks with shudders ; a noise only heard by his own sensitive ears pouring through his bloodied lips. Upon first glance it's clear something is wrong, the employee has never looked like this. Fearful monsters weren't supposed to be moved after all, and yet the janitor looked very shaken during this moment. Slink-like arms wrapped around his body like he was his own prey— and, perhaps, he was.
Blood cakes his mouth, appearing muddy in some areas as though it's not all fresh. But when he moves his enlarged head, a new squirt of red pops out and he squirms again with his pain. Agony was normalized in a world like the one he secured, though Roger couldn't help despising such a feeling when it burned him personally. Rendering him unable to complete his jobs and he knew, oh no, he knew the Lady was probably sending someone down to rid him of his duty completely due to his incompetence. Still he remains, huddled in on himself like the runaways seen in his traps. Working his mouth with soft cries as something clinks against the floorboards from the movement.
Then, Roger feels it. A presence. He has no eyes to observe and see, but his soul screams with it. The janitor growls and his hands uncurl, fingers pressing against his wide mouth to hide the injury from the threat. Before it's hidden, however, there was a flash of swollen gums and rotten, crooked teeth gushing out his scratched up mouth. Blood puddled around him that was now completely soaked into the wood. Nostrils flare while he inhales, trying to decipher a scent— but you can't smell shadows, now, can you?
ON THE BARE skull of the impossible man is scratches galore from his job as wandering security ; riddled with blood on his coat from ridding the maw of distasteful guests who wonder too far. or employees
due to his long arms he's excelled at climbing, a hobby for hanging coming as naturally as breathing. when the employee now only known as 'the hanged man' was sentenced to such a fate by the heart ; the janitor was the one who followed through the execution. long digits webbing the neck through the loop of rope and scaling the ship to pull tightly at their throat until
SNAP!
he's hung men, he's hung dead rats, and the dolls he keeps in his lair. though he's labeled as the janitor, his job on the maw reaches further than that... and the blood you see on his coat doesn't always mean the death of a child, moreso implying the death of a nuisance

past the door rests the slump body of the janitor, blood bubbling from the gaping holes where his arms should be. with his large, misshapen head resting against the cool metal, he gurgles,
" my ffff—fucking arms! "
it breaks off into a wail. rearing back to slam his head into the wall again. soft sobs racking his thinned throat despite the now dulled sense of pain.
his fucking arms, you guys! he's literally dying. help y'all
