the  ache  spreads  .  no  personal  knowledge  might  be  shared  between  phoenix  and  ghost  ,  no  knowledge  of  reincarnations  ,  of  what  it  means  to  be  separated  in  such  things  .  but  what  connects  them  is  that  colour  of  the  ache  ,  the  need  ;  to  rashmi  ,  it  tastes  indigo  .  filled  to  the  brim  with  minuscule  stars  ,  ones  that  may  never  be  dulled  no  matter  how  high  the  flames  of  the  bonfire  climbs  .  head  cants  in  its  bird  -  like  visage  .  “  why  do  you  want  to  feel  it  ?  ” and  it  aches  to  ask  .  to  consider  what  that  means  for  them  .  tears  spill  ,  and  rashmi  tenses  ,  the  sense  overwhelming  to  wish  to  reach  forwards  and  alleviate  its  fall  .  but  she  does  not  .  allows  it  respite  from  sora's  eyes  .  “  most  don't  .  i  blame  no  one  for  thinking  it  to  be  hub  -  drub  and  baloney  .  even  so  deeply  entrenched  in  it  ,  there  have  been  many  times  i've  thought  the  same  .  ”  she  leans  ,  elbows  to  her  knees  ,  bracing  her  chin  with  her  hands  .  she  gazes  up  ,  instead  of  around  .  “  but  where  supernaturals  and  mortals  alike  have  disappointed  ,  the  stars  stay  steadfast  .  they  tell  us  stories  ,  send  messages  ,  and  give  warnings  .  all  we  need  do  is  listen  ,  and  frankly  ,  they  have  listened  better  than  friends  i've  had  for  centuries  .  ” and  oh  :  for  centuries  to  have  passed  ,  it  cloys  within  them  ,  a  cedar  perfume  in  a  deep  bog  .  for  privacy's  sake  ,  rashmi  neither  does  not  dive  into  details  .  they  merely  allow  these  things  to  exist  right  where  they  are  .  “  no  harm  in  seeing  a  scientific  star  map  ,  ” suggests  she  .  then  it  could  mean  as  much  or  as  little  as  sora  likes  .

What  a  good  question.  To  know  what  rising  from  the  ashes  of  death  meant,  to  triumph  in  the  face  of  the  desolation  of  one's  soul  ripped  from  it's  body.  To  rewrite  the  history  of  her  death,  to  know  that  she  rose  from  a  body  completely  destroyed  to  be  put  back  together  again.  It  hurt  even  more,  blood  red,  the  mudding  of  the  jewel  toned  red  for  passion,  this  feeling  in  tandem  with  anguish.  There  was  not  a  way  that  the  ghost  is  able  to  articulate  this,  besides  saying,  "why  wouldn't  I  want  to  be  reborn?  From  THIS?"  There  it  is,  an  admission  of  a  sense  of  self-loathing  at  their  current  state  --  Sora  had  never  been  self  hating  in  their  life  but  there  the  truth  lied  in  their  acknoweldgement.  They  wondered  if  their  body  would've  remained  perfect,  unscarred  like  before  if  they  were  reborn  but  that  could  be  asked  another  time  --  realizing  that  she  did  want  to  spend  time  with  Rashmi  after  this  interaction.  No  matter  how  deep  this  had  become.  "I'll  be  your  friend,  Rashmi.  I  want  to  be  your  friend.  I  would  be  lucky."  Sora  feels  so  small  in  comparison  to  the  stars  they  talk  about,  so  tiny  with  their  feet  atop  the  sand.  MINISCULE  in  comparison.  Wondering  then,  how  to  live  centuries  in  the  non-corporeal  form  they're  in,  they  acknowledge  that  they  had  never  had  any  plans  to  live  forever  so  maybe  being  a  phoenix  would've  been  a  worse  off  fate  for  them  than  their  phantom  figure.  Maybe.  "A  scientific  star  map?  With  equations?  Or  what?"

"Um, I'm sorry? That's not actually true, I believe she was... well, I don't know, but I've only been around since— um, well, since the Ottomans had control of Egypt. Anyway, that doesn't really matter. I suppose it- well, we're not all ancient. And anyway, I find it hard to keep up with so constantly. I'm rambling, I think. But..."

A little flustered by her own recollection of history, the Reaper's mid-sentence pause had an abrupt, uncomfortable stiffness to it, although it was clear on her face that she was trying to recall a different place and time entirely.

Of course she'd been to a music festival. Just not, um, Portchella or Port-a-Loo or whatever the other suggestion had been.

"That's silly. I've been to Woodstock. I just don't know what that one is. And I think the Bonfire we had might as well count for something? There was music then. And um... food,"

She wasn't stupid, or even ignorant to the world around her, but the pace that things changed made it hard to keep up with everything. Especially for someone like Ester, who still loved the simplest things in life and had never paid much attention to the likes of television of mobile communications. She was content, even if she seemed particularly confused in the moment.

"Would this festival just be for residents?" she asked, sincere despite the curious smile growing on her face. "I imagine it'd be... different something of that scale,"

"You're  talking  to  the  certified  King  of  the  useless  ramble.  Your  ramble?  Fascinating.  Legendary,  even.  'Cause  what  the  fuck?  That's  so  cool,  dude.  SERIOUSLY."  It  was  something  they  meant,  it  was  earnest  in  all  their  poking  at  Ester  for  being  old  (  to  them  ).  "That  makes  sense  though,  I  guess.  I  mean,  if  I  was  around  since  Jesus  was  put  on  the  cross  I'd  lose  track  of  time  too..."  it  was  said  that  time  with  obvious  sarcasm,  a  glint  in  their  eye  and  the  purposeful  lightness  that  indicated  it  was  a  joke.

Afterall,  some  of  what  Riley  did  do  was  learn  about  these  events  --  some  of  their  TA  duties  were  for  history  classes.  It  was  a  privilege,  really,  to  be  in  the  places  where  this  knowledge  was  so  accessible.  There  was  no  need  to  be  awkward  around  Riley  and  he  hoped  that  others  knew  that  when  being  in  their  presence  by  how  many  times  he  naturally  BLUNDERED  through  conversation.

"Okay,  see,  I'm  the  idiot  now  for  not  only  forgetting  Woodstock  but  teasing  you  about  if  you'd  been  to  one  when  you've  been  to  THE  musical  festival.  A  goof  and  a  half.  Coachella  is  really  more  of  a  meme  and  something  I  would  never  EVER  go  to.  Not  even  if  I  was  paid  to  go."  The  idea  of  a  multi  day  festival  in  the  middle  of  a  desert  in  California?  Yeah,  no.  "The  bonfire  doesn't  count  to  me  though.  That  was  a  chill  hang  out,  y'know.  That  was  a  vibe.  Not  a  festival."

Thinking  for  a  moment  they  continued,  "I  mean...if  other  supernaturals  wanted  to  come  I  wouldn't  say  no?  Portum  could  choose  who  would  and  wouldn't  be  allowed,  afterall.  Portum's  very  own  VIP  list.  You  bring  up  a  good  point  though  'cause  imagine  some  people  are  invited  but  can't  get  in,"  he  starts  to  laugh  softly,  "I  have  no  clue  what  we'd  do  then.  At  all."

as much time as they spent inside, sasha probably could have done without the sunlight as a vampire. however, some days, they had a little less aim than usual, delving straight into identity crisis mode and wondering what the hell their life was for now. feeling that way, sash laid out in the park in the sun, glad they could. this was still real. sunlight would release serotonin and boost their mood. tried and true. shit. did that work for vampires? they immediately sit up, mind beginning that spinning thing until a shadow appears before them. ❝ huh? sorry, i wasn't ... what did you say? ❞

"Dude,  you're  fine,  please  lie  back  down  I  was  just  bringing  some  stuff  to  help  us  chill,"  there  was  no  guidebook  for  how  to  handle  this  --  How  to  Help  Your  Internet  Friend  Who  Turned  Into  A  Vampire  Adjust  To  Their  New  Reality.  If  anything,  Riley  had  tried  to  scour  the  web  in  the  days  since  Sasha  had  appeared  --  both  happy  to  meet  them  in  the  flesh  and  shocked  beyond  belief.  Pulling  out  a  joint,  some  sodas,  assorted  snacks  and  a  blanket,  he  gets  to  work  at  creating  a  space  for  them.  "I  was  also  just  trying  to  announce  my  presence  as  back  but  I  know  you're  having  a  MOMENT  right  now  so,"  he  shrugs,  pulling  out  a  lighter  before  trying  to  arrange  the  supplies  in  between  them  both.  "You  glad  you're  not  BURNING  right  now  or  Edward  Cullen-ing?"

small  talk  is  not  something  that  sloane  is  that  well  versed  in  ━━  if  they  had  carried  on  with  their  doctor  career,  the  dragon  wholeheartedly  believes  it  would  be  part  of  their  impending  demise  as  a  professional.  portum  makes  them  want  to  try  it,  though.  "hm.  you  really  think  this  is  worthy  of  a  shark  tank  episode?  it's  just  portapotties."  eyes  follow  a  line  towards  the  source  of  the  screams,  eyebrow  raising  in  both  annoyance  and  curiosity.  sloane  is  still  not  a  hundred  percent  sure  fairs  are  her  thing.  "one  of  those?  i  don't  think  so.  i  don't  even  think  i'd  wanna  go.  have  you  been?"

"Pfftt  it's  JUST  Portapotties.  It's  never  just  portapotties.  Have  you  watched  Shark  Tank?  There's  a  market  for  anything,  there's  always  someone  willing  to  buy  the  shit  that  neither  of  us  would  even  dream  to.  You  know  what  Squirrel  Boss  is?"  Riley  watches  Sloane's  expression  as  she  answers  his  question  on  the  Headless  Horseman  rollercoaster  that  elicited  the  screams  of  delight  mixed  with  fear.  "Oh,  yes.  I  have.  More  than  maybe  should  be  legal.  Before  I  was  even  legally  allowed  to  go,  I  used  to  steal  my  mom's  sole  inserts."  Smiling  at  the  memory,  he  quickly  snaps  a  picture  with  a  mental  note  to  send  it  over  it  to  her  when  the  day  was  done.  "Soooo,  what  kind  of  things  interests  you  here?  If  you  wanna  LEAVE,  say  the  word.  The  observatory  kinda  seems  more  your  vibe,  anyways."

“  oh  ,  my  fuck  —  ”  riley  collapses  beside  them  ,  then  shoves  .  thorn  cannot  get  a  word  out  edgewise  besides  a  berated  huff  ,  then  a  hiss  when  his  legs  tumble  off  the  bed  .  several  of  orisa's  plushies  scatter  to  the  great  and  distant  fucking  winds  of  riley's  bedroom  floor  .  (  these  ones  had  been  donated  to  the  cause  :  watching  over  riley  as  he  slept  ,  chasing  off  those  horrible  nightmares  .  )  “  now  you've  gone  and  done  it  .  you've  made  the  zombie  giraffe  and  the  skeleton  eagle  turn  into  kermit  off  the  roof  .  ”  thorn  gets  one  foot  back  up  ,  then  plants  it  flat  to  riley's  thigh  and  shoves  right  back  .  “  i  can't  get  anybody  to  get  down  and  dirty  with  a  fucking  name  .  ”  this  is  not  the  first  time  riley  has  heard  this  complaint  .  and  no  ,  it  won't  be  the  last  !“  at  this  point  ,  you'll  catch  me  throwing  portaroo  kangaroo  in  there  and  mean  it  .  i'd  say  it  straight  -  faced.  mouse  rat  ,  rat  mouse  ,  kangaroo  shits  .  it's  a  bummer  to  say  :  aha  ,  yeah  ,  we're  working  on  it  ,  here's  the  show  .  ”  tirade  :  done  .  gets  their  legs  in  -  between  riley's  ,  locks  them  there  .  upper  body  hasn't  moved  an  inch  .  the  chestnut  strands  splay  out  and  away  from  his  now  -  crooked  glasses  .  “  watch  out  when  your  favourite  carpenter  nails  everybody's  brains  out  with  the  ghoul  tour  .  i  refuse  to  listen  to  that  song  .  depresso  espresso  is  more  like  it  .  ”  no  riffs  to  study  either  .

They  can't  help  but  snort  at  the  series  of  words  coming  from  Thorn's  mouth,  especially  at  the  comment  about  Kermit  off  the  roof  --  making  a  mental  note  to  make  a  meme  of  the  faces  of  said  plushies  on  the  meme  of  kermit  jumping  from  the  roof.  "STILL?  How  do  y'all  STILL  not  have  a  name,  bruh.  That's  despresso  espresso  actually.  If  everytime  I  played  a  gig  and  I  had  to  tell  my  fans  that  I  didn't  have  a  name  yet...I'd  be  just  like  them."  He  points  to  the  wonderful  plushies  as  his  phone  lights  up  with  a  reminder  from  Thaipod101.  Quickly,  he  opens  it  up  to  bypass  the  reminder  (  not  delete!  ),  opening  Apple  Music  and  starting  Espresso.  "I'd  love  to  see  her  at  Portchella.  You'll  learn  this  song  too  and  maybe  the  band  makes  a  rock  version  of  Espresso?"  They  try  hard  to  not  reach  out  then  and  make  sure  his  glasses  are  where  they're  supposed  to  be,  not  crooked,  but  fails  as  it  was  a  concern  for  them.  "Your  glasses  are  about  one  more  knock  from  KERMITTING  off  your  face."  A  feeling  of  nervousness  creeps  up,  a  flip  flopping  of  the  stomach,  and  they  almost  take  their  hand  away  before  deciding  to  arrange  his  shiny  chesnut  strands  away  from  the  now  not  crooked  glasses.  "You're  welcome."

Orisa listened to the young medium ramble on, every once in a while would she add a sound of acknowledgement, her eyes studying the piece of art before her. She didn't know the city had such a keen eye to such things - well ... times are changing in this sleepy city. Maybe the director they have now actually knows a thing or two about fine art and just isn't working there because they needed a job. Upon hearing the last part - and I mean really hearing it a slight chuckle escaped the woman lips, "Well hun, I'm sure Porche nor Coachella would like us using or combining their names together if that's what you are hinting at." a thoughtful pause was made, "What's a Warped Tour? Is that something for the supernatural's?"

"I  didn't  even  think  about  Porsche,"  Riley  sighed,  knowing  that  could  be  a  genuine  copyright  issue.  "But  Coachella?  I  mean,  they  have  Beychella.  Bratchella.  What  they  don't  know,  won't  hurt  'em.  Plus,  at  this  rate,  I  could  see  Coachella  actually  being  ran  by  supernaturals.  I  mean,  there's  no  way  that  that  shit  goes  off  every  year  without  MAJOR  issues  and  not  have  a  witch  or  someone  on  their  side."  The  words  were  true  to  him  once  he  started  to  piece  it  together,  it  may  have  been  the  next  great  conspiracy  to  them  too.  "Warped  Tour  was  this  super  cool  festival  only  for  punk  and  alt.  A  lot  of  the  festivals  mainly  do  normcore  stuff,  pop  stuff,  which  isn't  bad  but  sometimes  you  just  wanna  mosh  or  not  care  about  some  of  the  frilly  stuff.  I  WISH  there  was  a  solely  supernatural  music  festival.  Would  you  go?  Porchella  could  be  it…"

“  riley  ?  …  where  the  heck  have  you  been  ,  loco  ?  ”  she  pops  up  from  the  passenger's  seat  of  the  car  ,  having  hitched  a  ride  with  a  coworker  who  was  on  the  way  to  the  fitness  centre  ;  brought  her  skates  ,  brought  her  knee  pads  ,  brought  her  purse  .  this  is  all  the  mermaid  needed  for  a  day  off  ,  and  lo  and  behold  ,  she  pounces  right  where  riley  said  he  would  be  waiting  .  (  besides  :  they  deserve  to  goof  the  freak  off  .  as  a  bonafide  treat  ,  as  a  good  time  .  the  bonfire  ?  kinda  mid  .  )  lulu  shimmies  their  shoulders  as  they  almost  bolt  at  him  .  “  …  wait  ,  wait  ,  are  those  the  air  jordans  i  told  you  to  buy  ?  holy  wicked  ,  they  went  on  sale  ,  they  totally  went  into  the  bargain  bin  .  ” lulu  grabs  his  wrists  ,  and  shimmies  more  ,  doing  a  little  dance  right  in  place  .  then  she  takes  in  a  deep  breath  .  “  okay  ,  calm  .  we  are  caaaaaalm  .  ”  exhaling  the  excitement  out  .  “  but  i'm  shocked  we're  even  here  .  ” then  again  ,  so  would  most  of  the  citizens  of  portum  be  shocked  to  see  them  together  .  the  opposite  energies  ,  the  near  lacking  mirror  -  images  of  their  fashion  choices  —  it  simply  makes  no  sense  on  paper  .

Riley  didn't  have  to  be  a  medium  or  at  all  supernatural  to  feel  the  energy  that  radiated  off  Lulu.  A  breath  of  fresh  air,  the  mermaid  had  always  been,  even  if  Riley  was  the  storm  cloud  that  occupied  the  same  atmosphere.  It  was  only  for  Lulu  that  he  did  the  most  disjointed,  ludicrous  version  of  a  crip  walk  with  the  Air  Jordans  in  question.  "You  know  I  had  to  do  it  on  'emm,  ayeeee,"  he  laughs  at  Lulu's  attempt  at  calm,  really,  he  had  been  smiling  the  minute  that  she  had  declared  'WHERE  HAVE  YOU  BEEN  LOCO'  but  it  didn't  match  the  outside  until  that  moment.  "You're  SHOCKED  we're  here?  Look,  just  because  I  live  the  recluse  lifestyle  doesn't  mean  I  don't  enjoy  a  good  fair.  In  fact,  a  reason  I  don't  ever  leave  this  place  is  because  they  got  a  neverending  fair."  As  for  where  they'd  been,  recluse  was  one  word  for  the  bed-rotting  that  happened  once  the  official  school  year  was  over  but  they  try  for  a  joke  as  their  head  starts  to  bob  back  and  forth  in  excitement.  "As  for  where  I  was...that's  top  secret...I  actually  signed  an  NDA.  But  who  I  was  working  for?  Rhymes  with  M.I.A."  Did  that  rhyme?  Could  acronyms  rhyme?  "Guess  they're  coming  for  me  now  that  I  told  you.  We  might  needa  get  BACK  in  that  car  and  make  a  run  for  it."

The Oracle shrugged. It almost felt like she couldn’t care less about the other’s words, but that wasn’t the case. Her mind was just elsewhere, filled with things she couldn’t control and feelings she couldn’t stop herself from feeling. Maybe she should focus on the conversation and try to act more naturally instead of paying attention to pieces of art she couldn’t make sense of. “Just because these people were alive when great artists were, that doesn’t mean they’ll have the same talent.” Aeri replied as she adjusted her messenger bag over her shoulder, then sliding her hands down her cardigan’s pockets. It was usually cold at the arts center, so she’d made a habit out of wearing something warm whenever she went there.

Part of her wondered if she'd been as rude to him as she felt like she had, so Aeri made a mental note to try and sound less dry throughout the conversation. “I mean, I lived in the same city as a great deal of Kpop artists, but I don’t have half the talent Hwasa or IU have.” God, she wished. But then again, Aeri mostly danced and sang for fun. What she enjoyed the most was writing. Whenever words escaped her lips, she would write them. “Me? Sad?” She almost snorted, her gaze averting to her feet as an attempt not to look at the other medium in the room. Aeri wondered if they could sense it on her. “No, it’s…” She forced another smile as she waved her hand in the air. “It’s nothing. Nothing important.” Her ex’s words came to mind again, telling her she could tell him anything and at that time, she wished he would pick up the phone if she called.

She wasn’t going to call.

“But… it’s funny that you think they’d be in heaven of all places. According to most religions, they’d be in hell for sure.” This time, her chuckle was genuine. Maybe Aeri should hug the other medium and thank him for the distraction. The silly conversation in the middle of her sad thoughts. “In others, they’d probably have reincarnated. Maybe we could ask the demons instead of angels?”

"Hah,  no,  definitely  not  but  they'd  be  closer  than  my  ass  would  ever  be.  I  just  can't  imagine  that  we  couldn't  get  some  mimicry  going.  One  of  the  best  parts  about  Portum  are  the  possibilities,"  they  say  as  if  they're  quoting  a  billboard  or  a  brochure  for  their  town.  It  was  funny  for  someone  so  skeptical  and  often  pessimistic  of  the  world  to  find  a  genuine  faith  in  the  town  they'd  lived  in  most  of  their  life.  The  town  they  were  born  in  was  one  they  escaped  but  their  home?  It  may  have  been  the  equivalent  of  a  small  town,  reminiscent  of  many  a  false  utopia  in  their  sci  fi  books  &  shows  but  it  was  real.  A  storybook  come  to  life,  something  so  special,  even  if  it  wasn't  perfect.  They  give  Aeri  a  glance  then,  noticing  the  fidgeting,  the  denial,  the  lack  of  eye  contact.  "You're  telling  me  you're  not  actually  a  secret  member  of  TWICE?"  They  sit  on  whether  to  do  more  than  quip,  allowing  themselves  to  offer  one  last  life  boat  for  Aeri  to  jump  onto.

"If  it  turns  out  to  be  important,  the  offer  still  stands."  The  thing  about  Riley  was  --  they  weren't  one  to  pry.  Curious  to  a  fault,  INTERESTED  in  the  world  around  them  but  he'd  never  been  one  to  push  people  beyond  their  limits.  Maybe  it  was  because  he  wouldn't  like  the  action  returned,  maybe  because  he  was  more  passive  than  he'd  like  to  admit.  It  didn't  mean  that  he  wasn't  perceptive.  Observant.  There  were  no  promises  to  be  made  then  with  Aeri  either,  though  Riley  would've  meant  them  earnestly  if  he  had.  If  there  was  anything  Riley  was  familiar  with  --  it  was  sadness.  Like  a  cloak,  a  blanket  so  suffocating  yet  familiar,  he  could  see  it  in  their  eyes.  But  they  weren't  one  to  pry  open  people  they  way  they'd  pry  open  books. 

"In  Judaism  we  really  don't  believe  in  heaven  so  maybe  I  should  just  say  the  afterlife?  According  to  most  religions,  all  of  us  in  Portum  would  be  in  hell,"  they  couldn't  help  but  echo  a  dry  laugh  as  well,  because  the  idea  of  the  majority  of  the  citizens  of  Portum  being  damned  to  Hell  was  hilarious.  "Can  you  imagine  some  of  our  neighbors  being  in  Hell  with  freaks  like  Jeffrey  Dahmer?  I'd  be  happy  to  ask  any  of  the  demons  though  from  what  I  know,  they  don't  even  remember  Hell.  Which  seems  like  a  kind  of  raw  deal,  I  dunno."  Riley  shook  his  head,  disappointed  at  the  fact  and  feeling  like  demons  deserved  better  than  to  be  dragged  somewhere  they  couldn't  remember  only  to  be  spat  back  out  into  the  Earth  to  roam.

he liked being the watson to riley's sherlock. sounded right. felt right. besides, he always wanted to be a doctor. “Okay,  woah,  you're  getting  a  little  crazy  but  I  like  it.”  Straight  sarcasm,  it  wasn't  crazy  at  all.  "I'd  even  try  to  help.  I  mean,  what's  the  worst  that  could  happen?  It  could  be  like  Sinners."  Though,  the  minute  Riley  said  that  he  knew  that  with  everything  else  going  at  Portum,  there  was  definitely  a  lot  of  bad  that  could  happen  with  them  trying  to  summon  the  dead.  He'd  be  lying  if  he  said  it  still  wasn't  tempting  as  an  idea.  Their  tone  changes  at  what  Adelaide  says,  concerned  about  what  was  said  and  even  willing  to  abandon  the  conversation  at  the  admittance.  "I'll...be  honest  with  you.  What  happened?  Why  they  won't  tell  us?  Scares  the  shit  outta  me.  But.  The  idea  that  something  really  bad  could  happen  here?  Maybe  it  was  a  cover  up  but  they  might  have  good  reason?"  Though,  he  realized  how  much  of  a  SUCKER  he  started  to  sound  like  then.  "I  think  the  people  of  Portum  would  show  out  for  their  porches.  It  would  be  like  those  car  shows  but  even  more  decorative.  Y'know,  with  all  the  magic  in  this  place?  Anything  is  possible.  I  just  feel  like  this  has  to  happen  now."

grayson  feels  bad  almost  immediately  after  he'd  snapped  —  trying  his  best  to  push  down  his  anger  because  at  the  end  of  the  day,  cameron  was  not  the  cause  of  it,  nor  did  cameron  deserve  the  outburst  to  be  directed  at  her.  part  of  him  wonders  why  cam  had  followed  him  all  over  the  place,  not  because  he  didn't  think  cameron  cared  about  him  —  but  because  he  truly  did  not  think  he  deserved  to  have  someone  who  was  willing  to  follow  him  around  the  country  &  take  care  of  him  when  he  sometimes  refused  to  take  care  of  himself.  especially  considering  the  fact  that  while  cameron  was  technically  his  brother's  adopted  kid,  them  being  so  close  in  age  he'd  always  seen  her  as  a  sibling.  had  fought  people  for  her,  had  always  been  one  of  the  first  people  to  side  with  cameron  no  matter  what  the  situation  was.  "sorry."  he  breathes  out,  shaking  his  head  as  he  runs  a  hand  through  his  hair.  "she's  here....  ran  into  her  at  the  bonfire  —  shit's  just  fresh  again."  the  werewolf  explains,  his  brows  knitting  together  as  he  takes  another  deep  breath  to  push  it  all  aside  once  more.  he  doesn't  want  to  talk  about  it,  doesn't  even  want  to  think  about  it  but  he  knows  that  cameron  will  more  than  likely  ask  him  questions  so  he  prepares  himself  for  that  regardless  of  the  weight  he  feels  in  his  chest.  "i  think  you're  getting  scammed  into  believing  that  shit.  i've  found  regular  stuff  around  here."  he  says  with  a  chuckle,  leaning  against  the  table  as  he  takes  a  hit  of  the  joint.  "oh  fuck  off."  he  quips  with  a  roll  of  his  eyes,  middle  finger  extended  in  cameron's  direction.  "more  so  i've  come  to  realize  that  i  can't  fucking  fight  what  i  am  or  what  i  have  to  deal  with  so  why  would  i  sit  around  and  make  myself  miserable  more  so  than  i  already  am  at  times?  work  is  ...  work,  sure.  but  at  least  we're  not  sitting  in  a  stuffy  ass  office  building  having to dress all proper while working  boring  ass nine-to-five  jobs."

At  the  apology,  she  shrugs  because  at  the  end  of  the  day  that's  really  all  it  took  for  them  to  be  okay.  This  is  what  family  was,  no  matter  the  deep  wounds  that  occasionally  came  up  at  their  bickering.  It's  why  there  was  so  much  about  her  emotional  state  that  she  kept  to  herself,  Cameron  knew  that  most  of  her  deep  dark  worries  were  not  true  --  not  really.  It  was  easy  to  forgive  then  too,  because  the  nerve  she  struck  was  just  as  deep  for  Grayson.  "DEADASS?"  That  hadn't  been  the  nymph  that  she'd  been  talking  about  but  maybe  it  was  her  witchy  sensibilities  that  had  sensed  that  a  certain  nymph  had  come  back  in  his  life.  Truthfully,  Cam  had  been  so  fucked  up  during  the  bonfire  that  any  reunion,  anything  at  all  that  might've  alerted  Cam  to  most  of  the  shenanigans  that  her  brother  or  others  were  up  to  was  completely  wiped  from  memory.  It  was  almost  scary,  really.  "So,  when  you  say  ...ran  into  her?  What  exactly  do  you  mean  by  that?"  The  question?  INNOCUOUS.  But  Cam  didn't  push  further  than  that,  if  anything,  she  decided  then  that  she  would  make  an  effort  to  check  in  with  Adelaide  about  the  whole  ordeal  and  question  her  first.  Then,  she'd  circle  back  to  Gray.  "I'm  not  getting  SCAMMED!  Whatever.  If  I  am,  I'll  ask  Adonis.  If  I'm  getting  scammed  then  whatever,  placebo  effect.  I  can  live  with  that.  But  they're  not  going  to  scam  my  scammer  ass,  nu  uh,"  the  middle  finger  returned  with  a  face  so  comical  that  it  could  not  be  taken  seriously.  "If  we  were  sitting  in  a  stuffy  ass  building  working  a  9-5,  I  think  I'd  actually  blow  it  up.  If  Portum  had  an  office  building  like  that?  Yeah,  I'd  say  we're  in  fucking  hell,  bro.  Fresh  hell.  Do  you  like  it  here,  by  the  way?  Or  is  your  ass  about  to  bolt  any  minute."

A  snort  came  from  Cameron's  nose,  the  soda  they'd  been  nursing  coming  from  it  at  Ade's  comment.  She  was  sure  that  it  wasn't  on  purpose,  the  hilarity  of  the  sentiment  but  that  was  one  of  the  things  that  she  liked  about  Adelaide.  In  her  earnest  kind  nature  was  an  honesty  that  not  many  could  replicate  without  it  seeming  self-righteous.  "I'd  love  to,  actually.  Sucks  there's  no  Doordash  here  but  whatever.  Guess  it's  time  to  learn.  My  parents  would  be  so  shocked,"  her  eyebrows  raise  at  the  admittance  and  once  again,  she's  listening  to  Adelaide  intently.  Could  Cami  forgive  him?  If  Adelaide  could?  It  was  something  she  always  did  and  sure  eventually  she  would  --  but  history  was  sometimes  doomed  to  repeat.  "He's  on  thin  ice  then,  I'll  accept  your  forgiveness  and  I  know  you  get  it.  OBVIOUSLY  since  we're  both  here.  But  because  it's  not  always  easy  for  us...we  have  to  kinda  have  each  other's  back,  you  know?  Maybe  once  is  whatever  but  he  pulls  that  shit  again..."  her  hands  go  up  in  surrender,  "I'm  not  liable  for  what  I'd  do.  Just  don't  settle  for  something  half  baked.  Not  in  forgiveness,  not  in  life,  not  in  anything.  You  deserve  the  world,  Ade."

For  a  moment,  she  wasn't  sure  how  much  to  reveal  but  this  was  her  history  as  much  as  Grayson's.  "My  birth  parents  didn't  want  me.  I  mean,  maybe  they  just  couldn't  handle  me,  right?  Whatever.  My  mom  is  technically  my  aunt,  my  birth  mom's  sister.  They're  werewolves.  We  didn't  shift  until  we  were  twenty  and  twenty-five  for  the  first  time,  though.  Our  parents  not  only  didn't  prepare  us  but  lied  to  us  our  whole  lives.  About  A  LOT.  Grayson  had  a  different  experience  than  I  did,  see,  I  realized  I  was  a  witch  when  I  was  pretty  young.  But  I  also  hid  it  because  my  parents  never  struck  me  as  the  supernatural  type.  So,  when  Grayson  shifted  and  we  found  out...yeah  shit  hit  the  fan."

"Yeah,  it  definitely  was,"  Cameron  didn't  make  it  a  habit  to  get  THAT  shit  faced  but  it  definitely  was  the  result  of  having  stayed  on  the  straight  &  narrow  for  as  long  as  they  had.  Hearing  the  vampire's  words  was  comforting,  more  than  she  may  have  known  then.  “You're  a  real  bitch,  I  like  you.”  It  was  said  decidedly,  nodding  as  if  it  was  the  final  verdict  of  whatever  judgement  that  Cami  would've  cast  upon  Hera  had  she  not  passed  the  mental  auditing  that  the  witchwolf  did  with  most.  "If  someone  dies,  it  won't  be  us.  That's  for  fucking  sure.  The  fact  that  the  council  is  brushing  it  off  is  no  surprise  but  with  all  the  ZIPPITY  DOO  DA  shit  going  on  you'd  think  that  people  would  have  more  bark  about  it.  If  this  is  was  my  forever  home?  I'd  be  causing  an  uproar."

benny takes the locket and examines the picture. he didn't normally favor items with magic in them. he had no use for them really, besides them being cool and interesting to look at. in portum though, probably much more worthy. outside of it, unless one knew what it really was, it was just another trinket. but he wonders what someone at madam duala's will say. ❝ i don't think the locket is really me, ❞ a light chuckle leaves him. ❝ but we can definitely do something cool with it. ❞ or she could. benny wasn't as creative with magic as he was food. no spells or incantations for him. ❝ if you're learning, what the hell would i know? before portum, i just used to ... acquire and trade expensive things, no magical. or whatever caught my eye, really. ❞ another light laugh. ❝ so no, i don't know. ❞

"No?  You  don't  have  someone  to  give  it  to  at  the  very  least?"  Cami  questioned,  though  she  knew  that  the  likelihood  of  her  getting  a  meaningful  answer  from  him  about  that  subject  was  low.  She  was  curious  though.  "You  know  any  good  metal  workers?  Maybe  a  dragon  might  know,  hm,"  ideas  of  what  could  be  done  with  this  locket  started  to  turn  in  her  brain  --  it  seemed  like  a  shame  to  just  melt  it  down  for  monetary  use  when  there  was  something  emanating  off  of  it.  "Oh?  Like  what?  Can  I  ask  what  you  are,  anyways?  I  always  sorta  thought  you  had  some  witch  in  you  but  if  you're  saying  you  don't  know  then  you  know.  I'm  wrong."  Another  hit  to  the  ego.  "Wait,  you're  telling  me  before  Portum  you  WEREN'T  a  Michelin  star  chef?"
