This whimsical (with a dash of creepy) middle grade novel combines Harry Potter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a touch of Catherynne M. Valente’s Fairyland books into a read you might call a little unoriginal, but I just called… a lot of fun, basically. Look, I see where the people pointing out all the similarities to Harry Potter are coming from, but I found it plenty unique. It was a five star read for me up until the very end, when I was a little disappointed with certain developments. I still happily recommend it to anyone who enjoys magic and tricksters and mayhem!
