Benny Slydes
Original B.A.H by Alex Davis
(B.A.H = Barely Average Hero)
The sun was beating down on the small Arizona town. Drought seasons were bad, but this one slugged on for weeks longer than usual. Sweat poured from the brow of a young Benny Slydes, a small town kid with small town problems. Benny had a secret, but had only the barren wasteland to confide in. He stared down at his hands. “Why have I been cursed this way?” he said, mournfully. He threw his hands into his gunslinger pose, like a child playing in the Old West.
Slowly, the bones in his hands broke and shifted. Agonizing screams echoed as the Smith & Wesson .45s replaced his hands.
The cold steel touched his temple. He sighed deeply. He focused himself and flexed his forearm. Cool waters streamed down his face and evaporated before touching the ground.
“Damn it!” he said, hoping his suffering would finally cease.
He picked himself up and lumbered back toward town. Buzzards circled nearby. He rushed over, hoping to find an easy meal. He stumbled over the lifeless leg of a young woman. His shadow shielded her face from the sun. He lowered himself to listen for her breathing. She was breathing! He looked down at his deformed hands.
He straddled her stomach and put his .45 water pistols into her mouth. He flexed again and the water streamed into her near-lifeless body. His own body was losing color as life filled her once again. She gasped and lunged forward as Benny fell from her.
“What happened?”
Silence.
The young maiden hauled her still heavy body to her savior. She pounded on his chest, trying to revive him.
“I won’t let you die,” she said, wobbling to her feet. “I owe you.”
She shuffled over to Benny and tore a yard of cloth from her skirt hem. She wove the cloth under his body and around each shoulder.
“I’m gonna drag you now, sir. Please don’t be mad at me.”
She struggled to pull his lifeless body through the scorching sun. Benny’s body slithered over each stone in their path. Heat waves impaired the water well that appeared on the horizon. She pushed on. The blurry well cleared with each step.
The young maiden saw redemption nearing. She released her crude sleigh and raced to the well. Water sloshed into bucket. She lugged the heavy pail to Benny’s body. A gentle stream fell into his mouth. Life filled his body once again. He choked and sprang forward.
“Was I–“
“Cool yer jets, sir. You almost died…”
Benny’s shoulders slumped. He let out a long sigh. “Thank you. I guess I owe you one.”
“Absolutely not!”
“But–“
“Nope!” She said, picking him up. Dust billowed as she brushed his ragged clothes. “If anything, I owe you a drink!”
“I’m Dana, by the way,” she said, reaching out to greet her hero.
Benny hid his misshapen hands. Embarrassed.
“Ya know, we shake hands around here, fella.”
“I don’t wanna scare you away.”
“You won’t, I promise.”
Benny dropped his hands by his side. Startled at first, Dana grabbed his hand and studied it in awe.
“Is this how you did it?” she asked, her eyes welling up.
“Did what?”
“Saved my life, dummy!” She smiled.
A lone tear rolled down her cheek. Benny desperately wanted to wipe the tear away. Her acceptance made his heart swell.
“Yes, my curse–“
“Your gift!”
“My gift helped me save your life.” He looked down at his hands. “Don’t be afraid of what’s about to happen.”
“What’s about to–”
Benny’s agony drove him to his knees. She ran to aid him. He threw his mutating hand up, stopping her.
“It’s alright,” he said, regaining his hands. “It’s alright. I’m okay.”
“What the hell was that all about?” She rested her hand on his shoulder.
“That is my gift at it’s finest, ma’am.” Benny pulled himself back to his feet.
Dana steadied him. He felt her hand slipping down his arm. She giggled lightly, feeling the goose bumps on his arm. Dana grabbed his hand before he could pull away. Benny blushed.
“Never held a girls hand, huh?” Dana said, holding him firmly.
“Never felt a woman’s touch before.”
Dana blushed, smiling like a crushing schoolgirl. Benny turned to her. Their eyes met for the first time.
“Let’s get that drink, shall we?”
“I think that’s just what we need.” Benny gazed into the distance.
He and Dana walked slowly to town, hand in hand. New love blossomed in the heat of the desert.

I just have no words for this!
He decapitated a federally protected animal with a saw! His friends probably held it down so they should be punished right along with him.
Peace in the Void
The sun scalded Jared’s bare feet as he plodded across the ocean of sand. A small ragged loincloth clung to his red blistering skin. The chopping of helicopter blades passed overhead. Jared made a mad dash toward his potential saviors, waving his arms and calling out, “Help me”. The helicopter banked and made its way back towards him only to hover just out of reach. Jared looked at the soldier hanging from the side of the chopper, and sighed in relief.
“Thank you,” he shouted over the chopping blades. “Please save me!”
The soldier looked down at him and laughed. Then he flipped Jared the bird and the pilot took off.
“Damn you, bastards!” he cried out to the void of sand.
“I have to get out of this hellhole,” he said to the emptiness.
The sun set and rose as he drudged his way through the firestorm of sand. Mirages of his old life in New York appeared. Street performers drummed and strummed on the whistling winds. Old friends called to him. He ran to them, calling their names. He raced to a fountain in Times Square to put his face in the cool water, but only got a mouthful of sand.
Days passed. He ripped apart cacti and squeezed the juice into his mouth, riddling his hands and mouth with spines. His friends from the neighborhood called to him often, but he just turned away and trudged up the next sand dune.
A quick sting struck his foot. He stumbled, but gained his footing and shuffled on. The sun left him and the moon greeted him shortly after. His legs grew heavy so he stopped. An angel appeared before him.
“I’m here to take you home,” she said, taking him by the shoulder, “Your time here is done.”
“Why is my time done?” he asked.
“The sand viper freed you from your mortal shell.” She said.
He followed the glowing goddess into the moonlight and met the golden gates with a calm over him. Family long past welcomed into his new home and he had never been more at peace.
Alright everybody! First off I want to have a disclaimer here. I own neither of these images. Both of them are credited to their owners (Whoever they may be).
I just put them together to illustrate something that has irked my nerves for a long, long time! I’ve heard it many times and I’m sure most people have. “Furries and Anthros are the exact same thing.”
Take a look at the above image.
The badass on the left is an Anthro Wolf. The artist utilizes the “Wookie Rule”, meaning he’s naked but not naked because of fur. That doesn't always mean Anthro but I just wanted to point it out. This guy on the left looks like he would rip you in half if you crossed him, or stepped on his tail. Whichever comes first.
Now look at the image on the right. It’s similar, yes. The same thing? NOT AT ALL! He looks like he belongs in a Sonic game or something similar. These are two very different styles of art. This guy is more a cute and cuddly kind of creature. Not very much of a badass now is he?
Anybody who might be reading this please correct anyone who utters this horrendous statement. I implore you!
Not only should we protect our environment, but also each other.
Little Drop
I was born under a bad sign. A god-awful roaring and crackling rang out. Everybody said I would never amount to anything. They said my life would be nothing but a swift fall from grace. Maybe they were right. I tried not to believe that, though. I knew my life had purpose.
Above me, I saw the beautiful blue sky. Below me, darkness swirled and lights shot across the darkness. Strangely, it was beautiful to me. My brothers and sisters surrounded me.
“You’re so tiny, Little Drop!” My sister said, mocking my size.
My brothers and sisters laughed at my insignificance. Our home shifted and shook vigorously. Suddenly, our home split in half and we fell. Fear filled my core. None of it made sense. A force was pulling me left to right, back and forth. I yearned for my home and the laughter of my siblings. It was clear that I was coming to stop, and fast. I looked down and saw a plot of brown and green coming right at me. I touched down, and felt myself sinking. Deeper and deeper into this plot of land, I sank.
A strange figure was there to greet me with open arms. It was round and lightly colored.
“Come to me, child.” It said, “I need your help.”
I knew I had found my purpose. The weeks went by and I was shrinking. It was feeding off me. The smaller I got, the more my newfound friend would grow. He grew so large he burst through the ground that swallowed me all those weeks ago. As I took my final breath, my friend looked at me and smiled.
“You have helped me so much these past few weeks.” It said placing it’s fully grown root on me. “Rest easy knowing you have fulfilled a great purpose in your life.”
“What have I done?” I said. “How do I matter to anyone? I'm just a small drop in a large ocean.”
“You have given me the strength I needed to feed my family.” It said, “For that I thank you, Little Drop.”
I took my final breath and a calm came over me. Joy filled my soul. My short life finally had meaning.

Hello All,
I met these incredible young women when I was working in Canada. They live in a very toxic part of Canada called Chemical Valley or Cancer Valley. They have come to understand that Water Doesn’t Lie and by testing the water around them they can begin to defend themselves and their community from the corporations that are using our water for toxic waste dumping. This is the industries weakness and our greatest strength and they are incredible WaterWarriors. Please reblog and lend a hand. Their whole community is overrun with Cancer and environmental degradation.
Human beings are funny. They long to be with the person they love but refuse to admit openly. Some are afraid to show even the slightest sign of affection because of fear. Fear that their feelings may not be recognized, or even worst, returned. But one thing about human beings that puzzles me the most is their conscious effort to be connected with the object of their affection even if it kills them slowly inside.
