Catra’s Magnetism: Deconstructing the Three Women Captivated by Etheria’s Fiercest Wildcat
Put your reading glasses on, dashboard, because we need to talk about the absolute chokehold Catra had on the women of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. I am not joking, I am not exaggerating, and I am absolutely not making this up. If you look at the actual text, the subtext, and the literal visual framing of this show, Catra wasn't just a force of nature—she was a romantic catalyst for three entirely different female characters. Let’s look at the canonical receipts in chronological order, and please, be for real with yourselves while reading this.
1. The Unrequited Devotion: Scorpia’s Visible Crush
Let’s start in the early seasons. Scorpia’s attraction to Catra wasn't just subtext; it was screaming from the rooftops. From the constant attempts at physical affection to her literal dream of them living in a house together, Scorpia had it bad. But let’s be brutally honest and fair to Catra here: Scorpia’s affection frequently crossed into Catra’s personal space, causing visible annoyance and discomfort. Catra was drowning in her own survival trauma, feelings of abandonment, and massive psychological walls. She literally did not have the emotional currency to register or return Scorpia’s feelings. It’s a tragic, beautifully messy dynamic, but the attraction on Scorpia's end was undeniable.
2. The Subconscious Projection: Glimmer’s "Roll With It" Fantasy
Now, let’s talk about the point that some of you are going to want to fight me in the tags over, but you can't because I have the actual episode frame rate on my side. In Season 2, Episode 4, "Roll With It", when Glimmer is mapping out her imaginary battle plan, how does she visualize her sworn enemy? She doesn't picture Catra in her dusty Horde uniform. No. Glimmer's brain maps out Catra wearing a gorgeous, off-the-shoulder gown showcasing her left leg, high heels, styled hair, earrings, lipstick, and a posh accent. LOGIC CHECK PLEASE! Why would a tactical commander picture their rival as a glamorous, drop-dead gorgeous femme fatale unless there was some deeply buried, subconscious attraction or fascination there? Glimmer had the hots for the aesthetic, even if she hated the person at the time. The subtext is screaming.
3. The Canonical Endgame: Adora’s Gradual Awakening
And finally, the blueprint. The heartbeat of the entire series. Adora and Catra’s transition from childhood best friends, to bitter enemies, to soulmates. This wasn't a sudden plot twist dropped in Season 5; it was a slow-burn masterclass in gradual realization. Adora had to unpack layers of destiny and self-sacrifice to realize that her fiercest desire was simply to stand by Catra. And Catra had to strip away her armor, face her absolute rock bottom in "Corridors", and finally admit that her anger was just a shield hiding how desperately she loved and was attracted to Adora. Their mutual realization wasn't just romantic; it was saving the universe.
Conclusion:
So stop treating Catra like she’s just an isolated angsty cat. She was the emotional, magnetic axis of the Horde and the Rebellion alike. Women wanted her, women dreamed about her in high heels, and one specific blonde lesbian literally chose her over the universe. Case closed. Drop your thoughts in the reblogs!
