And the thinggggg the thing about ace Viktor and the idea of JayVik essentially being a QPR is that they had the chance to do something really interesting there, because it is a major plot point in s1 that Jayce neglects his platonic relationship with Viktor in favor of his romantic relationship with Mel, and this contributes to Viktor's eventual doom spiral. Which is like peak aroace angst plot point. But the problem is that what ends up happening in season 2 is:

1) The eventual resolution to the conflict is that they both die (? or get poofed into another reality or something), so they never actually have to try to negotiate that push/pull between Jayce's different relationships. it's kind of a cop out in that i think the show fails to fully explore or acknowledge this idea

2) For all intents and purposes Jayce does end up having to choose between the two of them, and it isn't really presented as a result of like societal or cultural pressures or expectations or anything but almost as an inevitability, like they are diametrically opposed? Which is not my favorite thing ever

3) When Jayce chooses to stay with Viktor at the end, he is apparently choosing to die with him--or something approximating it--so his relationship with Viktor ultimately ends up destroying him (or at least removes him from this reality for good). sooo..... hhhmmm.....

I mean it is definitely important that he ends up choosing to prioritize his platonic bond with Viktor in the end.... maybe it's because s2 is overall so mid and character assassinates Viktor so bad that I am reluctant to accept it. Like I think the conclusion could have been fine but I really don't think they did a good job of getting there.

another prime example of arcane s2 flop is the asexual viktor thing. like tbh to me he totally is ace (and probably aro or greyro) and i know it in my heart of hearts regardless of whether christian linke had said anything about it or not. i don't know why we act like he has to explicitly turn to the camera and say "i am asexual" for it to be in the text; it's not cool when people do that about gay or trans characters, i don't think we should do it about confirmed ace/aro characters or obviously ace/aro coded characters either

but anyway the interview where linke confirms it is so so so bad it almost makes me not want to believe it anymore. it's actually incredible to me how bad he fucked that up. omg. can't have shit in this economy media landscape
