RAMÓN SANTIAGO AMAL MIGUEL MONTOYA GUTIERREZ
A sad father in his 50s who is trying his best. His daughter Eva is the light of his life and he would do anything for her. He was born in Granada and was an angry punk in his teens and he’s fundamentally still an angry punk but he’s also a neurosurgeon with a family to provide for. He’s a still in love with his ex girlfriend who also loves him dearly but doesn’t want to have to try and save him. He’s getting better every day!
ANGEL ORTEZ DELGADO
She’s a Native trans girl with a little bit of a god complex except she’s genuinely celestially beloved. She keeps meeting gods and they just all genuinely find her very charming and fun. She’s kind of a troublemaker but that seems to be cosmically fine if not encouraged? All she wants is to be utterly adored and worshipped and she feels like that’s not a lot to ask??
SCARLETT MARIA GARCIA
Impossibly sweet Central American trans girl who owns a bakery that doubles as a community center. She’s who you go to if you need something. She loves women and cats and being single and independent and calling her own shots. Ramón is her ex and she adores him and his daughter and will always be in their lives but would never even consider getting back together with him. A lot of people are in love with her but that’s kind of none of her business.
RONALDO MARLÓN ARROYO DOMINGUEZ
Goes by Marlón. Caribbean beefcake and unflappable ray of sunshine who is actually literally descended of the gods. Just recently discovering his powers and what he’s supposed to do with them. He loves his mom and his daughter and his neighborhood. He’s a local healer/curandero and is just generally regarded as an excellent guy.
BUTCH
Just Butch. Dodgy introverted flower shop owner slash actual eldritch god. Doesn’t mean to be a scary guy but unfortunately just kind of is anyway because he’s lived lifetimes incomprehensible to the average human he encounters. He loves lizards and bugs and generally regards most earth fish as very distant cousins. He is terrified of cats. He ended up on Earth by accident and thanks to a ritual gone wrong is just kind of stuck here. His current major goal is to learn how to drive—he can teleport, he just thinks it looks fun.
ISMENE
Not very nice. Generally jaded. Immortal Arctic siren who was banned from the sea for falling for a human and then also lost her human. Cursed to walk a world she hates without her beloved, she’s just generally in a pretty bad mood—but maybe trying to adapt to the surface? She works at a fish market in a port town and might try to date again soon.
COATL MATEO GUZMÁN ESPINOZA
Nahua She/He Divination Wizard who finds a way to feel guilty about EVERYTHING. Seeing the future sucks and she wishes she could stop but he’s stuck in it. It has never once helped avoid disaster it just kind of makes it worse most of the time. She’s hopelessly in love with his boyfriend Jian who is a weird mean genius that adores her.
JIAN FLORES-LIN
Guatemalan Chinese chaos twink who loves math and his partner and the fucking party. Secretly deep down just wants to be an artist and instead went into finance to make his family happy. Trying to figure out what’ll actually make him happy. Eloquence Bard with a silly little complex.
HUGENE HANDSOME
Half Orc with two loving gay dads who met playing on rival football teams. 5 levels fighter 2 levels bard. A big strong guy who loves the theater and performing and being on stage. Also loves his friends and his family and is generally liked by most people he meets. Hates like 4 people total but they keep all being in the same room as each other. Might get back together with his toxic ex.
at this point I don’t even tell people that the two wolves joke is anti-indigenous anymore because so many people have proven that even when they know they don’t care and I’d rather be able to tell myself people are doing it out of ignorance than grapple with the fact that anti-native racism just isn’t that important to people
People don't get that non passing trans women are not seen as men, they are seen as non passing trans women and are treated the way they are according to the social script for trans women, which is transmisogyny.
imo the way you feel about groups it's fully socially acceptable to hate (like children or polyamorous people, among others) is the canary in the coal mine for underlying bigoted beliefs. if you're only supportive of marginalized groups when it's cool to do so, probably you don't actually care about marginalized groups, you care about other people thinking you care
no matter how carefully you phrase things no matter how gently you put it somebody will always have a fucking problem with how to try to talk about racism. so you might as well call everyone an asshole and tell them to kill themselves. at this point!
- when they really want to say “faggot” but they know it’s a slur they shouldn’t say
- when they really want to say “f*mboy” but they know it’s a slur they shouldn’t say and let’s be real 90% of the time they don’t know or care that it’s a slur they shouldn’t say and they say it anyway used as a synonym for twink meaning faggot
- just straight up transphobia. misgendering and masculinizing transfemmes, feminizing transmascs, forcing a largely gendered term onto nonbinary people etc.
- describing any skinny man of any sexuality with enough traits that are deemed “feminine” or “androgynous”, often straight or maybe bicurious, very little regard for anything else about appearance or presentation (typically standards rooted in white supremacy and misogyny, and homophobic stereotypes)
ways people on the internet don’t use “twink”
- to mean “skinny white hairless young gay guy, historically typically white and blond”, which is the least nuanced but most common actual definition of the term
- as a label that a person chooses to identify themself with. not everyone who fits those descriptors wants to be called a twink. the connotations of size, age, and whiteness in regards to desirability among gay men and what kind of guy is more “socially acceptable to fuck,” leading to the stereotypes of twinks being fuckable bottoms who are always sexually available, are important to take into account. many trans people who may fit the typical descriptors are not at the gender presentation they would like to have, and even if they are, there are plenty of reasons to not want to be called a twink. stop calling fictional characters and celebrities and real human people in your own life twinks when you don’t know what you’re talking about and are probably just using it in place of a slur or as a transphobic or homophobic microagression. oh my god
It's wild how consistently "nonbinary" gets treated as just a spicier flavour of transmasculinity, and not a range of identities both transfeminine and transmasculine people both hold. Within trans online spaces, transfemininity is seen as almost anathema to being nonbinary.
It's like, either you're a feminine cis man who is still cis, like a femboy, or cross-dresser, or you're a binary transgender woman 'gender conformist' who has an absolutely uncomplicated relationship to her gender. There's no in-between, and any sign that a transgender woman might have a more complicated relationship to her gender is grounds to exile her to the former category of femboy or cross-dresser.
Being nonbinary is only socially permissible in transgender spaces when you're transmasculine, because transfemininity is subjected to such intense scrutiny that that anything short of swearing an oath of undying loyalty to Artemis that you will forever and exclusively be a woman is grounds to treat you as a male cross-dresser.
You can see this in a lot "androgynous" fashion styles as well, especially in what bodies get to be counted as androgynous. Typically, the bodies are white, thin, and (stereotypically) feminine, save for the absence of boobs, while the clothing is (stereotypically) masculine. The fact that this is an idealization of transmasculinity is not an accident, and it makes transfeminine nonbinary people hoping to be socially read as such extremely difficult.
The only alternative for them is the 'man in dresses' stereotype, which not only reduces them to the status of a cross-dresser, but which is constantly fetishized and repackaged as "gender fuckery" by TME people who think it's exotic. And I know some transfem nonbinary people get a lot out of this, I know a few of them, but for the vast majority of us, it's a complete misrepresentation of how we actually want to present.
These fashion and body standards are not the cause of this pattern so much as the shared effect of the pervasive transmisogyny directed against transfemininity which constructed transfemininity and nonbinary identity as anathema to begin with.
This anathema is typically employed against transfeminists as well. I am nonbinary, and yet I could not tell you the massive stream of people accusing me of being a binary trans woman who denies the existence of nonbinary people and who do not believe me when I try to explain otherwise.
When people say transfeminism is "exorsexist", what they mean is that they can't understand transfeminine people as nonbinary, that they refuse to recognize our identities, or to understand our experiences.
Either we're cross-dressers, or gender conformists. Either we're men, or anti-feminists. Transfems are denied a gender identity.
Hey, you, cis girl that's very (correctly) vocal about women being allowed to talk about their periods, do you include trans women in that?
I ask because every single time I've tried to talk about it to anyone that isn't a trans woman they get fucking angry. Which has caused me to have to just suffer in silence every single month. So I really relate to cis women when they talk about literally the exact same thing; being shamed by everyone around them their whole lives for talking about their periods, so they just suffer in silence every month as it negatively impacts their work and social lives. But I don't even feel like I can voice that I am literally dealing with the same exact thing because most of y'all react like you want to throw me in front of a bus for saying it, even those of you who act like your such big great transfem allies.
I guess I'll take this opportunity to talk about trans women periods.
The first thing any tme person thinks when they hear this is always "how can trans women have periods? They don't have uteruses!"
The answer is: the uterus isn't what causes your period, it is effected by your period. What causes your period and what causes trans women's periods is the same thing: the endocrine system.
HRT changes the sex of your endocrine system. Feminizing HRT makes it a female endocrine system, giving us a 28-day hormone cycle just like cis women. At the end of that cycle, the hypothalamus floods the body with prostaglandins. Those are what cause all but one of the period symptoms, because they make muscles inflame and contract. They are what make the uterus shed its lining, they are what cause intestinal cramps, they are what cause body aches, they are what cause headaches and migraines. The only period symptom not causes by the release of prostaglandins throughout the body is depression, and that is caused by your endocrine system simply not processing as much estrogen and from simply feeling like shit.
So, the only symptoms trans women don't get every 28 days is menstrual cramps, because yes we do not menstruate since we don't have uteruses. But migraines, depression, body aches, intestinal cramps, and the infamous "period shits" don't exactly add up to us having any better of a time. Except we have to pretend that we're fine and nothing is different because no one believes that we get periods, not even cis women.
"But you can't call it a period then because that refers to MENSTRUATION!" is another one I hear all the time. This is incorrect. You use the word "period" instead of just "menstruation" because it doesn't just refer to menstruation. It refers to a period at the end of the hormone cycle where we experience a host of symptoms. And not all cis women experience all of the symptoms that encompass the period. Not all cis women get migraines, or body aches, or have severe depression. If a cis woman gets a hysterectomy she doesn't menstruate either! In that instance she experiences an identical period to what trans women experience. Yet, I doubt you'd insist that cis women who've had hysterectomies don't have periods.
Oh, another thing that I personally discovered after bottom surgery: vaginal odor changes for trans women during our periods too. I was not expecting that because I always thought it was just from menstruation. But nope, the ph levels of a trans woman's vagina are the same of as a cis woman's vagina, and it changes during our periods just the same.
since there is such an "english speakers who don't even try to pronounce a foreign mame correctly" epidemic, native english speakers often try to overcorrect and end up thinking they have a moral imperative to pronounce every foreign name correctly at all times. so i'm gonna hold your hand and look into your eyss as i say this: you can't. you can't pronounce every sound in a language you don't speak. and that's fine. it happens to the rest of us too. we won't be mad so long as you try your best.
my family fucked up my life by using spoonerisms interchangeably with their true phrase counterparts since before i was born and now i can’t escape from instinctively saying shit like “im gonna shake a tower”
