So, you want to learn how to draw.
You didn't mention WHAT you want to draw, or what you want from your art style, so, I'll give a general crash course.
Finding your artstyle is going to be a bit hellish. But, that's necessary. It's gonna take a lot of experimentation.
What I recommend most for you, adamfaulkner-stanheightsleftnut , is to just get right to it. Consider your inspirations, whether that be an animator/animated movie, or just an artist. Then, start drawing. Over and over. Feel out the differences for yourself, of how you draw an eye, or hair, etc. Consider whether you're drawing more sharp, or more round, type features.
And remember that just because you use basic character design principles, doesn't mean you're "betraying your art style". Some characters will have sharper looking, narrowed eyes. Some will have round, softer looking eyes.
Another component of one's style is how detailed it is, or are there specific details they just omit all together.
I also heavily recommend looking through speedpaints or WIPS, any sort of process, of artists you like. Start making those connections of how their pieces progress, and their techniques.
And I really, REALLY wanna emphasize to you.. Just go for it. Don't make such an elaborate plan. Start drawing and experimenting as fast as you can.
You're gonna do great out there, and good luck. I'll attach some extra resources here for you.
Also also, most importantly, have patience..
And yes, copying styles to learn at first is okay. It makes you look even closer and to analyze, which is what you need as a skill during this journey.
If you need any more help with art or need more links to resources, we're happy to help. You're also free to look through our own art since we all have our own art style, to compare them for your analysis, and to start gathering ideas for yourself.
